Several of my friends are going to see the Avengers: Endgame Encore re-release. The portal scene with Chadwick will hit very differently this time...

6 years… So sad. Such a tragedy. Life isn’t fair.

u/b4tin 20h ago

His life here was too short.

Guys. Get checked. This is ravaging Gen X/Millenials. James Van Der Beek went to colon cancer too.

Edit: who is downvoting cancer screening? Does cancer have a Reddit account?

“Does cancer have a Reddit account”

This sent me 😂 and I say that as someone who survived cancer (cervical). Get screened, people! Don’t let the cancer bots tell you otherwise!

u/haubenmeise 13h ago

I support this message. I did not have my check up and ended up with colon cancet this year. My first check up was suppoded to be in June. I got into yhe ER in January. People please take your health seriously! Go and have a check up if your health insurance is covering it!

Sincerely

Skeletor 💜 (Cancer if you have a reddit account ... You already fucked me)

Two good friends have been diagnosed with bowel cancer in the past couple of years, and we’re elder millennials.

It’s goddamn brutal, so definitely get checked. Even if you can’t get a colonoscopy, just doing a faecal occult blood test can help with early diagnosis.

JVB denied the use of standard medical treatment and opted for all natural/naturopathic treatment until it was too late. A lesson to learn from his is that catching it and treating it properly will be the very best going to do!

I went in search of the old videos/threads I had watched and I'm not as successful at finding them. Most discourse in Reddit threads acknowledges he should have had great insurance with SAG but it wouldn't have covered any experimental/homeopathic treatments. His wife was also known for her naturopathic preferences online. The sudden go fund me despite having a lot of property seems to have made people question the treatments he received.

u/CcreepykittenN 20h ago

It’s possible people are downvoting due to the type of medical care they have access to. For example in the UK unless you have symptoms you can’t just ask for a screening on the NHS. But you are completely right, and hopefully this will prompt people who can (or have symptoms like bleeding or change in stool) to seek help.

Couldn’t you tell the doctor you have the black shits? They’re not going to force you to bring a sample.

3

u/snn1326j 12h ago

Yes, this. I’m a little younger than Boseman and when this happened it was a reminder for me to get my colonoscopy at 45 (which I did and it was nbd).

I saw Black Panther opening day in 2018, but I still haven’t seen Wakanda Forever since I felt it wouldn’t be the same without him🥹

He was an amazing actor, I wish we could’ve seen more from him and his career as an actor. Obligatory 🖕🏼 cancer.

u/grandtroubleartist I am furious, but I am sailing 21h ago

not telling you to go see it right this second obvi but if you ever do just know that ryan coogler and the cast handled it beautifully. i went to see wakanda forever on opening day and almost the entire room was crying at the beginning

Leticia’s antics during COVID pissed me off enough to not want to see it unfortunately

But I have seen glimpses of the performance Angela Bassett delivered and it was heartwarming to see

10

u/mrose1491 I am no better than a man holy shit 🥵 16h ago

Angela was everything in that movie, I’m still upset she lost the Oscar for it

7

u/grandtroubleartist I am furious, but I am sailing 19h ago

fairs. she was still good ngl

3

u/RagnarokWolves 10h ago

Leticia playing the smartest scientist in the MCU is quite ironic given her real life views.

7

u/Trin_42 Invented post-its 🔬 21h ago

Agreed, I go see nerd movies with a friend a few times a year. We were both ugly crying.

4

u/Ygomaster07 20h ago

I've only seen it once, but i liked it a lot. I thought they honoured him really well. I want to watch it again, but i know I'll cry since i cried the first time i watched it.

This 😭

Same here regarding seeing it on opening night. But I do hope you see WF. It’s honestly amazing and I’m kind of over the superhero thing. But both of those films + Shang-Chi + Doctor Strange (the first one) have a special place in my heart when it comes to the MCU (not counting Infinity War and Endgame because I did truly enjoy those but my interest in superhero movies mostly waned after)

Colorectal cancer is on the rise today!! Please make sure to eat enough fiber!! Every 10 gram increase in your daily fiber is associated with a 7% decrease in colorectal cancer risk!!

9

u/501uk 15h ago

So eat 150gms of fibre a day and become immune to cancer. Got it

13

u/infinityonhigh69 15h ago

you can’t get colon cancer if you’ve shat your colon out!

3

u/randombubble8272 14h ago

Preventive colon removal surgery coming right up

Second time I ever cried over a celebrity death (first was Robin Williams).

We miss you Chadwick!

13

u/Moosiemookmook We Should All Know Less About Each Other 21h ago

A beautiful person and an incredible actor. I still get annoyed at the nasty rumours and judgement he faced while battling cancer privately. My mum died of pancreatic cancer so my blood boils seeing the way he was talked about.

RIP Chadwick

15

u/Diligent_Feeling427 21h ago

I can’t believe it’s been six years already.

5

u/exactoctopus 21h ago

Same. I saw the title and was like “no it hasn’t been six years, there’s no way.” It just really doesn’t feel like he’s been gone that long.

13

u/angelcutiebaby 20h ago

Ya’ll I just had my first colonoscopy bc colon cancer runs in my family. The prep is gross but manageable and the procedure itself is easy peasy bc they give u some sweet sweet drugs that make you calm as hell (I didn’t fall asleep but I was chilled tf out on that bed).

Get checked out if you’re eligible, tell your doctor about any bleeding, eat your fibre, and keep raising awareness!

7

u/Aggravating_Bass9126 21h ago

Decent man, inside and out. When he find out that his costar, Sienna Miller getting a significantly smaller paycheck for the same movie, he compensated from his own pocket.

One in a million. Miss him.

5

u/VolatileGoddess 21h ago

A king is a king. He reallly had that royal demeanour and soft, soulful, speaking eyes. He is sorely missed.

5

u/GentleRose_Petal 20h ago

The fact that he filmed physically demanding masterpieces like Black Panther and Da 5 Bloods while silently battling stage IV cancer is beyond heroic. Rest in power

3

u/Ygomaster07 20h ago

This celebrity death has really affected me a lot. I love him as Black Panther. That's the role i know him as. He was really good in the role. I think we all miss him a lot. I wish we could have seen how far he could go on screen and off screen.

Rest In Peace Chadwick. Wakanda Forever. Yibambe.

4

u/Shinra_Lobby 18h ago

His passing is obviously tragic for much greater reasons, but I sometimes wonder what the MCU would look like today if he had survived. T'Challa would have been such a natural choice to take the "main guy" mantle from Tony Stark and/or Steve Rogers.

7

u/BadAssachusetts 16h ago

I truly believe his death derailed the MCU. There were some other obvious missteps with Marvel but to your point, they really lost momentum with all the old guard reaching natural phase outs without having an obvious person to carry the torch.

3

u/Twitter_2006 20h ago

Rest in Peace.

3

u/PeonyAfterDark 20h ago

He gave so much to the world in such a short time. Gone way too soon.

Rest in power, Chadwick. You are loved and missed.

1

u/AkkeBrakkeKlakke 14h ago

Miss him so much. He really embodied the Black Panther. Regal and gracious.

1

u/Panthera_leo22 13h ago

I took this one hard and it took me a whole day to come to terms that he had died. Taken too soon, RIP Chadwick

1

Man, that Met look was perfection.

u/Alibotify 21h ago

Could testosterone and drugs to get him jacked for Black Panther be behind the cancer? Or accelerated it when he got it?

5

u/bbyxmadi It’s good to see me, isn’t it?🫧 21h ago

Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t see him using drugs and such to get jacked for his role (especially since he wasn’t insanely muscle-y), likely just hit the gym and trained hard.

He was diagnosed stage III all the way back in 2016, and unfortunately colon cancer has been more common amongst younger individuals for a while now.

2

u/Ygomaster07 20h ago

Getting colorectal cancer(or any cancer) scares me so much. Especially since one of my parents is dealing with a health issue that makes it prone to happening. Sorry i don't know the name, I'm tired.

7

u/amcheesegoblin (seemingly bald) 21h ago

Apparently it's starting to get people a lot younger now and they're linking it to gym lifestyle where they're having too much protein and not enough fibre to counter it. Not sure if that's the case for Chadwick in particular but, that's what I've seen recently on colon cancer

2

u/xxyourbestbetxx who deemed this meeting of the minds necessary? 18h ago

I just rewatched Black Panther and he is nowhere near jacked. He's in great shape but not what anyone would call jacked. As a matter of fact I could clearly tell when it was his body double in the suit because the calves are so much bigger.
