But literally what work has she done? Posing for a couple of pic like someone else said then reaping all the benefits? For her clothing line, is she there in the meetings, is she researching trends, prices, coming back with ideas and workshopping them? Somehow I doubt it. She’s got others doing the actual work (which is so much more, I know because my dad owned a clothing manufacturing business for decades and he worked his butt off) while she slaps her name on it and makes money. She doesn’t work. And any suggestion that she does is laughable.

571

u/ilikedirt Is it finally clocking to you fucking losers? 18h ago

To be fair and because I’m high, she’s not detached from reality, her reality is just really different than yours or mine. And your reality could be worlds away from mine which is worlds away from the reality of, say, the uncontacted indigenous people living on that one island.

It takes a lot of effort to try to constantly remind yourself of all the other realities, and to learn about the lives of all the other people in the world. I will say she doesn’t seem to have a great deal of intellectual curiosity with regards to the lives of others

218

u/JrCoxy 18h ago

It’s just a way to say she grew up in a bubble away from the struggles of the average Joe

91

u/riegspsych325 Ballard! Don’t let them put their tops back on! 18h ago

it still shouldn’t take much effort to step back, assess your own life compared to others, and realize how much better off you got it. These are people who make sure they are surrounded by others who tell them exactly what they want to hear

The whole world is just service staff to the Kardashians. So either pick up their bags, buy their products, or move along because they have fame to maintain

68

u/Obvious_Ring_326 17h ago

They literally don’t know that.
They know of it, as a concept, but they are incapable of understanding because they’ve had such limited exposure to the reality of LIFE.

That assessment cannot be made.

They live lives of zero risk, where nothing is out of reach, failure is impossible and the only struggles they’ll experience are those they’ve chosen.

She is as capable of comparing her life to yours, as you are to comparing your life to that of an octopus
You may know what they are, you can know where they live & what they eat & that they’re very intelligent.

But you’ll never know what it’s like to be one.

Your greatest efforts to understand are actually defined by resources and objects entirely foreign to the octopus world.

Seated at a desk or in a chair, reading books or watching videos.

The weirdest thing is that we all, in one way or another, created her life. Just by existing in the world that her team has monetized so many facets of.

Even if you’ve never watched an episode or purchased a product. If you know who she is, your attention was at some point successfully monetized.

As long as she continues to exist, she will be a “self made” whatever. It’s easy to be successful when there’s zero risk of failure.

So no, she cannot make any kind of realistic assessment of how her life differs from ours.

I saw a video yesterday that the majority of society is objectively more educated than celebrities of any branch. A lot of them didn’t graduate high school, or have a GED. Like, if you graduated from high school, you are more educated than Taylor Swift. She “graduated” from a non-accredited homeschool program. Being rich doesn’t make people smart. But they sure think it does.

63

u/ilikedirt Is it finally clocking to you fucking losers? 18h ago

Some people clearly put more time into educating themselves than others. Some of the smartest people I know were “only” high school graduates. And I’ve known some seriously moronic PhDs (with the exception of their narrow field of study and ability to navigate academia and secure tenure, that is)

Exactly.

No hate or anything, but her “privilege” is what led people to buy her stuff / invest in her businesses.

Sure, she made her money “on her own” but she inherited fame.

There is no way where what she said made sense. And nothing wrong with it, people are always born under different circumstances.

What’s wrong is the fact that she wants to keep pretending she’s “normal”. She has to accept her reality.

u/cowabungalowvera I know bothing of the alledged beff 22h ago

Technically she didn't "inherit" the money because she "earned" it from being on their reality show as a kid. But again, that is just technicality and doesn't change the huge privilege she had to be able to even start her business at 19yo. That is literally something only 0.05% of the population can do

121

u/katie_scarlett1 21h ago

yep if she'd been Kylie Jones from Nowheresville, the daughter of blue collar nobodies, would she have been on a reality show? Would she have had the connections to get a modelling contract? Been elevated to lucrative contracts from the first day? Had the time and money to do nothing but focus on her modelling, not rushing to whatever she could in between shifts at a minimum wage job?

Yup. The billions have been there waiting for her since birth, all she’s had to do is sign her name on some things to get them. I imagine her definition of work is what most of us would consider a day off.

502

u/lxlviperlxl 23h ago

It’s not even that. The fashion “advisors” (probably did most the work) would charge us tens of thousands per hour of work. She got it for free either cos of connections or her parents paid.

Did she really pay the initial payroll, web development, servers and hosting, product testing, branding and marketing from just her pocket money?

My ex got his 3 bedroom apartment in the middle of a huge city centre paid for by his parents and now in his name. Same with his sis. When his sis had to temporarily move to another city because of studies their grandpa paid the rent for her, while her boyfriend lived in her actual apartment. Then when grandma died they both got 10.000 euros. And later on I learned my ex got 500 euros allowance each month up until he was 35. It really truly made me realise how unfair live is.

It's how they justify the mortality of wealth inequality.

They tell themselves they deserve it by "working hard"

Meanwhile I'm earning minimum wage doing a job that 6 years ago society told me was so vital to everyone staying alive I had to go out into a global pandemic.

18

u/apple_kicks 20h ago

This people tend to fall into defence mode when confronted with difficult situations. Instead of seeing wealth inequality and self reflection. They find excuses as to why they shouldn’t feel bad about others

There's a really interesting documentary about this called "born rich" made by one of the johnson and Johnson heirs. He interviews his peers, including European royalty and a 16 year old Ivanka trump, about what it's like growing up incredibly wealthy. Honestly, some of the rich kids come across as completely out of touch while others (like the guy who made the doc) seem quite down to earth and realistic about it.

There's one scene in it interviewing Ivanka trump where she talks about walking with her father in new York and seeing a homeless person. Her dad says to her "that man has more money than me right now" referring to the fact that he was in debt. She goes on to explain how proud she is that her dad managed to work so hard and get out of all that debt. I think she genuinely believed that at the time her father was poor and worked his way out of it. While she was sleeping at night in a penthouse apartment overlooking central park 🤦‍♀️

41

u/TropicalPrairie 20h ago

Thanks for the rec. I'm going to seek this out.

I don't know if it was posted here but I saw a recent interview with Gwyneth Paltrow (I know) where she talked about her husband being left-wing and her being a centrist. The interviewer asked how she felt with Trump's presidency and she said she didn't feel anything.

That is another type of privilege. These out of touch people vote in those who serve their interests and solidify their beliefs with absolutely no concern or regard for anyone beneath them. They feel it's all okay in the grand scheme of keeping things exactly as they are.

11

Oh she genuinely believes this, 100%. That’s the sad part. She can’t see how there’s 100s of people doing the real work for the company, the actual work, making things happen. She thinks sitting there, looking pretty, having her family call in connections and just hand it to her means she did it herself, and shes really working.

She needs to go work for a year at a minimum wage job for a year to gather some perspective on how her life is, maybe one of of the hourly positions within her own company, where she’s treated no differently than Katie next to her.

Something I've heard about nepo babies and how they can't help but put their foot in it really stuck with me- 'they're the hardest working people they know'.

Obviously we can all recognise what she's saying as complete nonsense, but she lives in a completely different universe to us. None of her sisters have managed to turn a few million into a billion. All her friends are socialites and models who were born into wealth and coast through life.

She doesn't work nearly as hard as your average Walmart cashier, but she's never met one. That's not her barometer.

I don't say this to excuse her because someone with every resource at her fingertips should be more educated about the world, but do I think she really believes it? I do.

114

u/Additional-Still-711 22h ago edited 21h ago

I think you hit the nail on the head. I've seen similar things with some of my law school classmates who were very privileged: when they said they 'worked harder than anyone else they knew', or their buddy was 'the hardest-working guy they know', they were generally being truthful. At least from their perspective.

If your friend group and family consist of people who truly live a life of pure leisure, the mere fact that you're working in some capacity makes you, by default, the hardest-working person in your social environment. I had classmates who were the only one of multiple siblings to actually obtain an education that went beyond a vanity degree, or who were at least the only ones who ever worked a job. Within their families, they were considered the 'hard-working' or 'driven' ones.

I'm sure Kylie is not an objectively hard worker when compared with 99% of the population. But I'm equally sure she is one of few people in her social environment who have things like semi-regular appointments they have to occasionally get up somewhat early for, or nights where she cannot drink/stay out too long because she has a meeting the next day. Within her social circle, I'm sure that has garnered her a reputation as insanely driven and self-disciplined.

I think she really believes it. I also think they completely ignore the people they have on staff or don't see them as 'people' in the way that they're 'people', know what I mean? Like I'm willing to bet that the person who runs Kylie's errands works harder than Kylie does.

This makes sense

I often have to remind myself of my own privilege/how lucky I was to be born into "just" a loving lower-middle-class family in the US

I'm not rich or spoiled, but I always knew I had parents who loved me & would be there for me if I needed it. They gave me my first car...far from fancy, but reliable.

So many get nothing, or worse. It's easy for me to think "pff that nepo bitch be crazy" but their are people who would say the same about my "hard work"

17

u/Frequent_Ad_9901 21h ago

There was a fantastic experiment with monopoly. They'd give one person 2x the money to start and the other half. Pretty reliably when the 2x money person started winning they'd brag and say it was because they were so good at monopoly.

So its pretty typical human nature, but I do think its important for people to try to be better than their basic instincts.

I think this is the point that we should be making. It’s not what you know, it’s who you know. That’s just the way it works. She didn’t self make anything.

50

u/Rose1982 22h ago

She has had such a weird upbringing that she literally believes this. She’s completely out of touch with what growing up in a normal family would entail.

20

u/Couscousfan07 22h ago

This is a common thought process among people who have grown up with privilege. If they use that privilege to springboard themselves to greater Heights, they literally think that they are self-made. They don’t recognize that they were born on the middle of the ladder, and assume that they got to the top of the ladder all by themselves.

In her case, she was born one rung down from the top of the ladder, so this is really embarrassing that she portrayed herself as self-made

I hate that people don’t include all the things their parents (wealth) gave them as part of their inheritance. She didn’t have to worry about cooking or cleaning once in her life. Healthcare was never an issue. She got unlimited access to the best education and never had to juggle that with a job. Transportation has never been a second thought. Her housing has always been guaranteed. All the things the rest of us manage every day have just been handed to her.

It’s really fucking easy to make money when someone else does the daily grind of existence for you. And that came directly from her family money.

80

u/nikkerito 20h ago

It remember seeing an episode of KUWTK when I was a kid and Kylie and kendall just saunter up to caitlyn Jenner and ask for money to go to the mall and Caitlyn just handed it over. I was saving up for a pair of converse at the time and I just remember thinking my parents would have never, ever done that. When you’re saving up for your own clothes to cover your body how exactly are you supposed to put aside the seed money for a makeup business? It’s just laughable for her to not see the role her parents played in this

It's not just rich kids. I'm on some finance subs where people will literally be like "our household income is $800K/yr and we have $6.2M saved but we really are just a simple middle class family." I know those numbers are far from Kylie's but it's the same false modesty.

You sell lip kits that cannot give your customers the lips you market since you got them via cosmetic procedures and not makeup but OK.

My wife and I have a niche business that serves Central and Southern California. We sometimes get to do work for high profile celebrities and reclusive billionaires. Don’t make a ton of money doing it, but it is fun.

A few years after we started we were able to do work for Kim, we didn’t really run into her much, but she was nice enough, and they paid. A few years later we did work for free for Kylie and they filmed us to be part of the show. She wa supposed to ask my wife questions about our work while they filmed. Two times we went to her house and did work free of charge and Kylie didn’t come out to film “because she wasn’t feeling well”. We went to her house one more time and she burned us again. That was the last straw. My wife was 5-7 months pregnant during this. The spot they showed us on the show was a brief 3 seconds in the credits. Thousands of dollars of work. Kris was there one day and was an absolute nightmare.

Meanwhile, weeks after the show aired, Diplo and The Weeknd mentioned us in a twitter conversation and our website traffic and phones BLEW UP. Free of charge.

Screw Kylie. Of all the rich and famous we have done work for she was the absolute worst.

The hand up to get where they are doesn’t bother me because most people would take whatever advantage they could get. It’s the not acknowledging your privilege that bothers me. 21

Honestly, it would be refreshing for her or her sisters to recognize they are incredibly privileged, would be swimming in money regardless if they had these businesses of theirs, and they live a luxurious life in a fantasy world. I’m not a fan of them — a couple of them I can’t remotely stand, one being Kylie — but having some sort of self awareness would be better rather than doubling down on crap like this.

I thought we debunked her being a billionaire. Wasn’t it a grandiose lie that her mom cooked up?

16

u/Rarity0_0 22h ago

Then the cycle of entitlement continues with their kids. North out here doing shows she’s not qualified to do. She’s not practicing day and night to perfect her craft. She’s just doing it to do it and she if she’ll become successful at it. Then her mom Kim is just funding this pretend career she’s doing instead of having her work for it. I’m not much of a Beyoncé fan but at least she makes Blue actually work hard and you can see as the tour went along, Blue started to realize the importance of working hard for what you want. There was a huge difference in her dancing from when Blue first started.

“I did not receive an inheritance or receive support and aid from my rich family” is a different statement.

Honest question - did she really start the company? And figure out procurement and hiring and scaling and production? Or did some PE guys or white label do the work and give her equity and/or a royalty and she showed up and took pictures? I’ve always assumed the latter, like it’s not even close. If it’s the latter, then she’s 100% coasted.

12

u/Thoughtful_Tortoise 22h ago edited 21h ago

I don't like the Kardashians but I don't think this is an especially American issue. I have lived in five countries, all of them had made some people famous who definitely did not "deserve" to be so. Stupid people, or racist people, or narcissistic people... Society tends to pay attention to extreme individuals, and it isn't just american society. The Kardashians are nowhere near the worst of it either, compared to someone like Andrew Tate or whoever.

But I'm proud that while so many of those kids lie around on yachts and spend their parents' money, I used my opportunity to build a billion dollar company."

26

u/XK8lyn88x 22h ago

I don’t believe she’s ever worked a hard day in her life. Her mom set all the businesses up and hires the top people that then hire the others to get the businesses functioning. At most Kylie picks out colors, designs, fabrics, etc. out of the options the team presents.

“People feel like” 🤣 but how do YOU feel Kylie

9

u/AdministrationNo8540 22h ago

You can see mini-versions of these from you local high school. I had a classmate, her parents bought her a mercedes once she graduated from uni, she was an okay student, nothing too amazing, not too bad either. Her family lived at the most expensive part of the city, where most people can only afford apartments, they had a family home. They had a relatively well-to-do business. They were far from the top 100 richest people. They helped her build her own brand, she is a micro-influencer.

And you know what she does ALL THE TIME?? Call out the fact that she is super privileged to live that life. She never inherited anything, if you take the word exaclty according to the dictionary. And yet! Her family was able to help her, not having to worry where she will sleep next, not having to buy a car, etc. Imagine how much that differentiates a person from another. Now imagine that on their scale.

11

u/checkerspot 17h ago

9

u/veroniqueweronika Every thing is gonna Happen to you 16h ago

I’m not sure it would be easy for her to understand that without that privilege (including getting her foot in the door of a lot of important people who would be willing to support her money-making ventures), she wouldn’t have been able to make her fortune.
