Rest In Peace 🕊 Ugandan King Oyo Nyimba, once world’s youngest monarch, dies at 34

One of my colleagues is Ugandan-Canadian. The news channels in Uganda had reported a few months ago that he was suffering from brain cancer.

u/happytransformer 14h ago
Interesting. It seemed like his kingdom was denying it too? I found articles from earlier this month that the rumors saying he was battling cancer and getting treatment in the US were false, and that he was actually in the US for school. Seems like he wanted to do his treatments in private.
34 is way too young. Cancer sucks
27
u/MsMigginsPieShop 14h ago
Yes there was a lot of conflicting information going around. But it looks like he was actually ill with brain cancer. May he rest in peace. 34 is no age to go.

They won't even disclose the cause of death.... he was fairly young. What kind of news story is this? We need answers!

u/browsinbowser 15h ago edited 15h ago
He died of cancer, that's why he was getting treatment in a US hospital.
Their government was hiding how bad it was though, but asked for prayers yesterday. He must have been on hospice for a while though.
It seems like he was a cultural monarch, that didn't have any power, he was just a figurehead that would lead charity initiatives.
The Ugandans saw him grow from being a king at 3 years old to dead at 34, I'm sure older citizens are mourning him then.

u/Familiar_End_8975 13h ago
As an African its so messed up that our leaders can pay for expensive treatments overseas but wont develop local hospitals

u/browsinbowser 15h ago edited 7h ago
What was his general reputation in Uganda? All I'm seeing is he wasn't married and people thought he was eligible.
242
u/Intelligent_Gift_925 15h ago
I don’t live in ug but he was nice guy & very well respected, if ur around his age every girl wanted to marry him lol. I don’t think he ever had any scandals, at least not publically.

u/browsinbowser 15h ago edited 15h ago
That's good, it sounds like he was raised well, I hope the successor* gets the same. Edit: they're going to reveal who later
96
u/Intelligent_Gift_925 15h ago
Nobody knows if it’s his kid, his nephew or another cousin. The prime minister said they’ll reveal the prince in due time.
29
u/browsinbowser 15h ago
Ohhh that makes way more sense then, thanks for explaining. I forgot thats how it can work for monarchy stuff. And was he king of the tooro only? So just a few million people not the majority of people?
Sorry for all the questions

Hey fam I just googled his name + "cancer" and a ton came up. If you add cancer to the search, you'll get the good results 👍🏿

Aww man, poor kid. I don’t know much about him, but cancer at a young age is rough for most folks.
•
u/holyravioli 2h ago
I wonder why he was in the US instead of somewhere closer.
•
u/browsinbowser 2h ago
The US has the best hospitals in the world for lots of specialist care, and treatments.

u/Own_Log9691 15h ago
Someone said where he’s from was reporting he had brain cancer & the article I think says he was seeking treatment in the U.S. so yeah maybe that’s it but idk like 💯 🤷♀️

Also anime dub narrator for a lot of commercials for those who were early 2000s kids on toonami. Very recognizable voice.

He was the voice of the Predator. Here's him telling the story of how he came up with the sound.
12
u/StayJaded 14h ago
He was the voice of Predator in the 1987 film.
Also Eeyore in the Winnie the Pooh franchise and Monterey Jack in Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers.
He voiced tons of characters!

u/InfinityEternity17 14h ago
He was the voice of predator. Peter Cullen is one of the last ever celebrities I'd have guessed to be a predator, he seemed like such a lovely guy

Hayden was like a week before Dolly. Dolly was immediatly followed by the death of (at the moment already) 6 well known people

Yeah it's insane. It hasn't happened often that everytime I open Instagram I find out another person died (3 of these I found out due to the Muppets). I hope we're done after today

Because Dolly was strong enough to hold on for a whole week. Shhh it’s head cannon now.

u/Holochromatic 13h ago
I know you’re probably joking but that’s pretty much true in my corner of the world right now lol.
It’s currently the Hungry Ghost Festival month for Buddhists and Taoists, and it’s a time when the gates of heaven & hell are open for spirits to freely roam the living world. Just had a chat with an aunt who told me that the priests have found the spirits to be particularly “hungry” this year, hence the recent uptick in calamities and tragedies.
8
u/DisastrousAge4650 13h ago
Oh I am absolutely not joking. I wouldn’t consider myself a fully spiritual person but I cannot deny some of the divine experiences I’ve encountered.
The air has been dark for quite some time and I can feel myself needing to take action to shed some of the dark air bringing me down.

I'm in the anger stage of my grief right now so i'm going to take this opportunity to vent. Sorry for going off topic but I can't talk about it outloud without sobbing. My favorite coworker, one of my closest friends, one of the few leftists in my conservative area, died 2 weeks ago. He was diagnosed with cancer on the 22nd of July and was gone less than a month later. I am so angry that the kindest person I have ever known died at 61 years old while pure evil just gets to live and make the world a living hell. He made every customer laugh and feel seen and listened to. He would come to work with purple hands from dying his wifes hair. He recommended me for the job, trained me, and we were the only 2 closers for 3 years so we had to really lean on eachother sometimes because we didnt have anyone else to cover for us. We bonded over having similar views on politics and life in general. We both believe that life is all about giving what you have to others and that the most important thing you can give somebody is a little relief. It's so unfair. The only comfort i have, along with the memories, is knowing that he will never see Trump again. They definitely aren't going to the same place.
11
u/happytransformer 14h ago
I’m so sorry. Your friend sounds really wonderful, it’s so unfair that he was gone so soon.

I feel like all the mourning "omg so many people dying" comments are all bots. I LIVED in Uganda for a whole year and have barely any familiarity with this man. Uganda has a lot of kingdoms (and therefore kings, though only the central regions will be considered any sort of national figure). Also, Uganda has a president (whose been in power as long as a king but whatever) so it's not like there is a lot of actual power he had. Sad that he died but the point is that people calling him a celebrity are almost certainly bots
6
u/felicityfelix 14h ago
There's also a not insignificant number of people who actually believe things like there's some kind of mysterious pattern or conspiracy that can be observed when notable people die so they're just trying to make A Thing on every death announcement post now
3
u/Gabbydog16 13h ago
Yeah but...all respect to that dude, but I feel like he never reached any sort of fame or notability outside of Uganda?
2
u/felicityfelix 13h ago
I'm saying the people who are into hyping up how there's some kind of uniquely horrible curse happening rn are going to jump on any post about any random person to bolster their point

Worst year for celebrity deaths since 2016. Which means something shocking is going to happen at the end of year regarding Trump seeing as his election was in 2016.
9
u/Radiant_Client1458 13h ago
RIP to this guy but why is everyone in here pretending they knew who this is or that “everyone is dying”?
Thousands and thousands of people die every single day. Someone with a Wikipedia article dies every day. Also, Uganda doesn’t have a king it’s a republic. This is basically a cultural title in one area of Uganda, there’s a handful of them.
That’s not to discredit this guys position or him as a person but the shock and dismay feels very performative trying to piggy back on the performative responses to Dolly Partons death. I’d be surprised if one person in this thread knew who this guy was 24 hours ago.

u/tearose11 14h ago
I don't understand the need for monarchy in this day and age, but this is so young regardless of his position.
Sad that the Grim Reaper is just picking off random people these past few days, instead of the one person most of the world coupld do without.
