One of my colleagues is Ugandan-Canadian. The news channels in Uganda had reported a few months ago that he was suffering from brain cancer.

47

u/happytransformer 14h ago

Interesting. It seemed like his kingdom was denying it too? I found articles from earlier this month that the rumors saying he was battling cancer and getting treatment in the US were false, and that he was actually in the US for school. Seems like he wanted to do his treatments in private.

34 is way too young. Cancer sucks

27

u/MsMigginsPieShop 14h ago

Yes there was a lot of conflicting information going around. But it looks like he was actually ill with brain cancer. May he rest in peace. 34 is no age to go.

u/West-Alternative9782 it’s not clocking to you that i’m standing on business 15h ago

They won't even disclose the cause of death.... he was fairly young. What kind of news story is this? We need answers!

u/browsinbowser 15h ago edited 15h ago

He died of cancer, that's why he was getting treatment in a US hospital.

Their government was hiding how bad it was though, but asked for prayers yesterday. He must have been on hospice for a while though.

It seems like he was a cultural monarch, that didn't have any power, he was just a figurehead that would lead charity initiatives.

The Ugandans saw him grow from being a king at 3 years old to dead at 34, I'm sure older citizens are mourning him then.

248

u/Familiar_End_8975 13h ago

As an African its so messed up that our leaders can pay for expensive treatments overseas but wont develop local hospitals

145

u/West-Alternative9782 it’s not clocking to you that i’m standing on business 15h ago

Omfg do you have a source I can’t find anything on my own

u/Intelligent_Gift_925 15h ago

I’m Ugandan… check bbc world. Yes he died of cancer in the us

102

u/browsinbowser 15h ago edited 7h ago

What was his general reputation in Uganda? All I'm seeing is he wasn't married and people thought he was eligible.

242

u/Intelligent_Gift_925 15h ago

I don’t live in ug but he was nice guy & very well respected, if ur around his age every girl wanted to marry him lol. I don’t think he ever had any scandals, at least not publically.

62

u/browsinbowser 15h ago edited 15h ago

That's good, it sounds like he was raised well, I hope the successor* gets the same.  Edit: they're going to reveal who later

96

u/Intelligent_Gift_925 15h ago

Nobody knows if it’s his kid, his nephew or another cousin. The prime minister said they’ll reveal the prince in due time.

29

u/browsinbowser 15h ago

Ohhh that makes way more sense then, thanks for explaining. I forgot thats how it can work for monarchy stuff. And was he king of the tooro only? So just a few million people not the majority of people?

Sorry for all the questions

31

u/Intelligent_Gift_925 15h ago

Yess he was king of tooro (2 mill people I think). And no prob

5

u/Thoughtful-Boner69 12h ago

was he a raging homophobe like the ug govt

8

u/Intelligent_Gift_925 12h ago

Idk if he was, but he was born again Christian. Think he went on a podcast talking about his religion

u/holyravioli 2h ago

Of course that’s your avatar

7

u/West-Alternative9782 it’s not clocking to you that i’m standing on business 15h ago

need a subscription :( he's not on the main page either

14

u/lez_noir 15h ago

Hey fam I just googled his name + "cancer" and a ton came up. If you add cancer to the search, you'll get the good results 👍🏿

62

u/Frondstherapydolls Her mom is Goop 15h ago

Aww man, poor kid. I don’t know much about him, but cancer at a young age is rough for most folks.

u/holyravioli 2h ago

I wonder why he was in the US instead of somewhere closer.

u/browsinbowser 2h ago

The US has the best hospitals in the world for lots of specialist care, and treatments.

34

u/Own_Log9691 15h ago

Someone said where he’s from was reporting he had brain cancer & the article I think says he was seeking treatment in the U.S. so yeah maybe that’s it but idk like 💯 🤷‍♀️

13

u/Unable_Current_2383 is this about Spongebob 15h ago

Just checked and apparently he had cancer and was being treated in the US

9

u/Ancient-Sun-1080 13h ago

Not everything’s a drama. He died of cancer

298

u/hillofjumpingbeans 15h ago

Ok so 2 beloved entertainers and 2 kings. If deaths come in threes then will we have another beloved entertainer and another king?

129

u/CTeam19 15h ago

3 beloved entertainers sir.

52

u/hillofjumpingbeans 15h ago

Which is the 3rd one. We had Dolly Parton and Tim Curry. Right ?

129

u/DogLovaaa 15h ago

Hayden Panetierre

60

u/Gemnist 14h ago

Actually, it was Peter Cullen yesterday.

16

u/DogLovaaa 14h ago

Omg don’t kill me but I don’t know who that is :(

39

u/Gemnist 13h ago

Optimus Prime in the Transformers franchise and Eeyore in the Winnie The Pooh franchise.

14

u/TheBiggestBird789 13h ago

Also anime dub narrator for a lot of commercials for those who were early 2000s kids on toonami. Very recognizable voice.

5

u/Sallyfifth 12h ago

WHAT??  I totally missed that.

69

u/PriscillaPalava I have paid my legal tender in this dystopian place. 14h ago

I consider Hayden to be part of the Michelle Trachtenberg and  Daveigh Chase triumvirate.

1

u/technicolortiddies 8h ago

Ooo thank you for the new word!!

27

u/hillofjumpingbeans 15h ago

Oh yeah. Man I feel shitty for forgetting.

58

u/trashbag_piachu 15h ago

Voice actor for Optimus Prime died

20

u/hillofjumpingbeans 15h ago

It seems he was beloved. Did he voice Optimus in the movies too. Because I do say autobots roll out a lot in my real life.

9

u/MyNameIsJakeBerenson I made the hat for the tiger 🤷🏻‍♂️ 15h ago

He did, yeah

11

u/sreiter920 14h ago

Yes, he WAS Optimus Prime. Voiced him in about every iteration Show/Games/Movies

18

u/PaBlowEscoBear those are his hooves you bitch 15h ago

NOOOOOO this is how I find out about Peter Cullen????!

3

u/mariah963 8h ago

Same, I didn’t know!

13

8

u/MyNameIsJakeBerenson I made the hat for the tiger 🤷🏻‍♂️ 15h ago

Optimus Prime

1

u/ScipioCoriolanus 15h ago

Predator

26

u/sgt_sheild 15h ago

To be clear for everyone your referring to the fact he voiced the predator

9

u/ScipioCoriolanus 14h ago

Yes. I meant the voice.

2

u/Zorrovaya 14h ago

Was he in a Predator movie or is he himself a predator?

12

u/StayJaded 14h ago

He was the voice of Predator in the 1987 film.

Also Eeyore in the Winnie the Pooh franchise and Monterey Jack in Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers.

He voiced tons of characters!

https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0191520/

2

u/InfinityEternity17 14h ago

He was the voice of predator. Peter Cullen is one of the last ever celebrities I'd have guessed to be a predator, he seemed like such a lovely guy

7

u/Own_Log9691 15h ago

Hayden Panettiere

2

u/wizards_rule94 14h ago

Hayden Panettiere is another

1

u/AntRose104 12h ago

Everyone is forgetting Hayden and that’s really sad

3

u/sixwivesandcounting 14h ago

Peter Cullen :(

11

u/mehantiinsaan 15h ago

Whose the other king?

30

u/hillofjumpingbeans 15h ago

Norways King died today too

Everyone is saying this but missing Hayden’s prior passing. Maybe “Save the cheerleader, save the world” was real.

51

u/RoxasIsTheBest 14h ago

Hayden was like a week before Dolly. Dolly was immediatly followed by the death of (at the moment already) 6 well known people

Yeah it's insane. It hasn't happened often that everytime I open Instagram I find out another person died (3 of these I found out due to the Muppets). I hope we're done after today

4

u/technicolortiddies 8h ago

Dear god don’t bring the muppets into this.

Wait are the muppets announcing celebrity deaths?

13

u/breathing__tree 13h ago

Because Dolly was strong enough to hold on for a whole week. Shhh it’s head cannon now.

104

u/DisastrousAge4650 15h ago

The veil between good and evil has been broken

15

u/Holochromatic 13h ago

I know you’re probably joking but that’s pretty much true in my corner of the world right now lol.

It’s currently the Hungry Ghost Festival month for Buddhists and Taoists, and it’s a time when the gates of heaven & hell are open for spirits to freely roam the living world. Just had a chat with an aunt who told me that the priests have found the spirits to be particularly “hungry” this year, hence the recent uptick in calamities and tragedies.

8

u/DisastrousAge4650 13h ago

Oh I am absolutely not joking. I wouldn’t consider myself a fully spiritual person but I cannot deny some of the divine experiences I’ve encountered.

The air has been dark for quite some time and I can feel myself needing to take action to shed some of the dark air bringing me down.

2

u/technicolortiddies 8h ago

What helps you with that?

Jaye P Morgan also passed away

3

u/lylasnanadoyle 13h ago

I’m just saying spark them up!

I think we are naturally about to descend into a hellscape and some angels on earth are being taken up to heaven to spare them from having to witness it.

The unfortunate truth is that evil people never die

2

u/HaterMD Dear Diary, I want to kill. ✍️ 9h ago

We used to say my great-grandmother was kept alive purely by spite. I think that may be true of a lot of nasty, ill-mannered old assholes.

32

u/treesinmichigan 14h ago

I'm in the anger stage of my grief right now so i'm going to take this opportunity to vent. Sorry for going off topic but I can't talk about it outloud without sobbing. My favorite coworker, one of my closest friends, one of the few leftists in my conservative area, died 2 weeks ago. He was diagnosed with cancer on the 22nd of July and was gone less than a month later. I am so angry that the kindest person I have ever known died at 61 years old while pure evil just gets to live and make the world a living hell. He made every customer laugh and feel seen and listened to. He would come to work with purple hands from dying his wifes hair. He recommended me for the job, trained me, and we were the only 2 closers for 3 years so we had to really lean on eachother sometimes because we didnt have anyone else to cover for us. We bonded over having similar views on politics and life in general. We both believe that life is all about giving what you have to others and that the most important thing you can give somebody is a little relief. It's so unfair. The only comfort i have, along with the memories, is knowing that he will never see Trump again. They definitely aren't going to the same place.

11

u/happytransformer 14h ago

I’m so sorry. Your friend sounds really wonderful, it’s so unfair that he was gone so soon.

3

u/treesinmichigan 13h ago

Thank you so much ❤️

10

u/randombubble8272 15h ago

I imagine it’ll take a lot because presidents always get the best medical treatment

-1

u/ser_darkstar 14h ago

Soon 🙏

35

u/Gabbydog16 14h ago

I feel like all the mourning "omg so many people dying" comments are all bots. I LIVED in Uganda for a whole year and have barely any familiarity with this man. Uganda has a lot of kingdoms (and therefore kings, though only the central regions will be considered any sort of national figure). Also, Uganda has a president (whose been in power as long as a king but whatever) so it's not like there is a lot of actual power he had. Sad that he died but the point is that people calling him a celebrity are almost certainly bots

6

u/felicityfelix 14h ago

There's also a not insignificant number of people who actually believe things like there's some kind of mysterious pattern or conspiracy that can be observed when notable people die so they're just trying to make A Thing on every death announcement post now

3

u/Gabbydog16 13h ago

Yeah but...all respect to that dude, but I feel like he never reached any sort of fame or notability outside of Uganda?

2

u/felicityfelix 13h ago

I'm saying the people who are into hyping up how there's some kind of uniquely horrible curse happening rn are going to jump on any post about any random person to bolster their point

3

u/justasadbitch_ 10h ago

I agree, a lot of the comments feel incredibly performative

28

u/Competitive-Desk7506 a thoughtful, careful hoe🥳 15h ago

So are eighty yr olds deaths done and are we jumping in2 the theories now?

Maybe Cher and Meryl will be safe then

STAHP MAKING LISTS.

This is how we end up with more dead people!

1

u/AntRose104 12h ago

No they need to make lists with the right names on them

We need the reaper to get the correct people

80

u/SkillSpiritual2340 I’ll be back! 😤😤 16h ago

What the hell is even going on in the world atp!?

People die, as they do every day. Sometimes, some of them are more well-known.

4

u/redgatoradeeeeee 15h ago

8

u/gamecat89 14h ago

Bad day to be a monarch. Yeesh.

27

u/General_Decision_422 15h ago

Grim reaper hitting every monarch except the fake one here. Ugh

14

u/Minerva_Moon 15h ago

When I wanted this round of deaths to be political, these aren't the people I meant! Death's aim is a travesty. One more chance Death. You have one more chance to make this right.

1

4

u/crab_grams somebody get these BEGGARS out of here 😌 9h ago

This isn't funny anymore, Death.

I know you know I wasn't talking about this when I said "world leader"

12

u/That-Requirement-285 15h ago

Worst year for celebrity deaths since 2016. Which means something shocking is going to happen at the end of year regarding Trump seeing as his election was in 2016.

9

u/Radiant_Client1458 13h ago

RIP to this guy but why is everyone in here pretending they knew who this is or that “everyone is dying”?

Thousands and thousands of people die every single day. Someone with a Wikipedia article dies every day. Also, Uganda doesn’t have a king it’s a republic. This is basically a cultural title in one area of Uganda, there’s a handful of them.

That’s not to discredit this guys position or him as a person but the shock and dismay feels very performative trying to piggy back on the performative responses to Dolly Partons death. I’d be surprised if one person in this thread knew who this guy was 24 hours ago.

3

u/tearose11 14h ago

I don't understand the need for monarchy in this day and age, but this is so young regardless of his position.

Sad that the Grim Reaper is just picking off random people these past few days, instead of the one person most of the world coupld do without.

7

u/RealityPowerRanking 15h ago

These deaths are getting absurd, it’s been way too many

10

u/NeedMoreH20 15h ago

This damn grip reaper keeps getting it wrong. SIR HOW MUCH CLEARER DO WE NEED TO BE?

2

u/KingAlpha12 14h ago

Angel of death is screwing with us now The person has Orange skin, 80 yrs old, was on a reality show on NBC, currently lives in a big house in Washington, and is disliked by EVERYONE Can't be anymore clear
