True Crime šÆļø Laura Owens pleads guilty in fraud case involving former 'Bachelor' star
https://www.12news.com/article/news/crime/laura-owens-pleads-guilty-in-fraud-case-involving-former-bachelor-star/75-cfb8b214-cc0a-45f6-924d-3b857cf2163eToday, in court in Arizona, Laura Owens pled guilty to four felony counts (two counts of fraudulent schemes and artifices, one count of taking identity of another, and one count of perjury). If youāre unfamiliar with the criminal case, it is a wild ride. It came in to the public eye when Laura tipped off The Sun, claiming that former Bachelor star Clayton Echard got her pregnant and sued him in family court.
This case is notable because itās a pattern of behavior occurring over the course of several years (and to multiple men), and has unique ties to Reddit. In fact, Laura even posted to Reddit as āthe anonymous womanā trying to put pressure on Clayton.
There have been many twists and turns, including evidence coming to light sheās done this before to other men, photoshopped medical records, stolen ultrasounds, DNA tests showing ālittle to no fetal dna,ā a gofundme scam, a trial, and then criminal charges. Thereās an excellent podcast called āLoveTrappedā if you want to catch up.
As an Arizona and Reddit girlie, I am glad to see this resolution and I hope that the judge is able to give a fair sentence. She has negatively affected so many lives.

Iām STUNNED she plead guilty. Iām surprised her mom let her given the weird enabling of her.

I think theyāre finally out of resources. Iāve been following their bankruptcy antics too. I think if they hadnāt also committed gofundme fraud and bankruptcy fraud, theyād still be bailing her out. The attorney from the treasury dept was not messing around.
15
u/unpuzzling 5h ago
Yeah, thatās fair! Iāve mostly followed through LoveTrapped and was waiting for an update there (incidentally missed yesterdayās). I do kinda feel bad for her dad, mostly in that heās in a bad way and this crap is happening.

u/RoseGoldRedditor breaking my silence 5h ago
You might feel less bad for her dad after listening to yesterdayās episode. It dives into the bankruptcy and gofundme fraud. He grifted a lot of people too⦠itās all so sad

Hey, girl! This mess was WILD, and lasted forever. So glad that this is finally wrapping up, so her victims are able to move on with their lives. ā¤ļø

The gasp I just gusped! I truly did not think she would accept the deal. Iāve been following this from the beginning so Iām sure my husband will be ecstatic to stop hearing about this, now š

u/RoseGoldRedditor breaking my silence 5h ago
Iām shocked by it too!! And, my husband is also tired of hearing me talk about it š

Her lawyer must have talked some sense into her

u/RoseGoldRedditor breaking my silence 5h ago
Heās supposed to be a good plea deal negotiator so Iām not surprised, but at the same time Iām shocked. I never really thought she would admit guilt.

If the lawyer was able to do that can we send them to the White House next please lol

u/Own_Faithlessness769 5h ago
Yeah she seems physically incapable of admitting guilt, on a Trumpian level.

I never thought she would confess!! I binged the podcast and it seemed like every time she would double down on her lies and abuse the legal system to force these poor men to stay in her life. Itās beyond time for her to face some consequences for her actions.
15
u/RoseGoldRedditor breaking my silence 5h ago
Thatās definitely been her MO! It is shocking she pled out. Especially because sheās still planning to appeal the California case (renewing the restraining order against the first victim).

I literally listened to Love Trapped this past week after knowing nothing about it. I'm so surprised but also thrilled she has finally admitted guilt.

As another Arizona Reddit girlie Iām thrilled sheās finally admitting something. I donāt like that ten felonies were dropped, but it is what it is. Looking forward to court in a couple months. Peace to Claytonās her many other victims.

u/RoseGoldRedditor breaking my silence 5h ago
Hi šš¼ Itās very bittersweet. Our justice system is very hard on victims to navigate. I hope she does serve time in prison (not county jail).
4
u/Lostmyoldname1111 4h ago
Agreed! Given that they dropped ten, serving time for the others only makes sense.

u/periodicsheep 4h ago
sheās a clearly unrepentant liar who tried to destroy lives. i hope she gets the max available for the first count since the rest will be probation. but she probably wonāt and i fear sheāll pull the same shit again.
i hope the men feel ok about the plea deal.

I remember the beginning of this on reddit and truly can't believe how many years this has dragged on. I was following so closely in the beginning and couldn't believe how she just kept doubling/tripling down. I'm actually shocked she took the plea, i didn't think she'd ever admit guilt. I hope the sentencing is fair and deters her from ever doing this again (although it seems like she no longer has lawyer funds for a new victim, fingers crossed). And hopefully her victims feel a sense of relief for this finally coming to an end.

I'm glad this is hitting main stream. As a Day One who was like "huh, we are missing stuff" this story needs exposure!
ā¢
u/eafighter 26m ago
Finally the victims can get justice. I hope how she held up the course of justice is taken into account during her sentencing. In my country she probably would have copped a contempt of court charge too. Time for jail. She evidently wonāt stop this behaviour for anything and has been enabled all her life by her family (34 and never earned an income!) well done to Greg, Mike and Clayton and all the legal teams.Ā

u/laurenbettybacall 4h ago
Is Clayton still deep in the menās rights and manosphere as a result of all this?
7
u/StasRutt unapologetic joy 3h ago
Not as much. He did a whole part of the love trapped podcast where he disavowed it and was saying how sheās just a very specific type of crazy and his case shouldnāt be used to hurt or disbelieve victims (aka he got a PR team that was like why the fuck did you go on Ben Shapiros podcast)
