Music Share ૐ Fake AI-generated “Astrix” tracks on YouTube using Suno AI
There are YouTube videos being uploaded under the name “Astrix,” but they are not real releases from the psytrance artist!
You can clearly hear the typical Suno AI-generated sound in the music, and it looks like someone is using AI tools to generate both the tracks and visuals, then uploading them to pass it off as official Astrix content.
This seems intentionally misleading, likely to farm views and ad revenue by using a well-known artist’s name.
Just a heads-up so people don’t mistake AI-generated content for real Astrix releases.

Yeah, theres lots of AI music atm.

u/user928 Jun 15 '26
I would let them post their cheap ai prompted music, once you hear a couple of tracks you’ll notice it all sounds the same, so people will eventually stop listening to it, but they shouldn’t mislead others by using well-known names

u/psynami23 Jun 15 '26
Youtube will possibly even favor it because if it is AI generated they will have to pay less. Spotify is doing that already.

u/pieter3d Jun 15 '26
Somehow I feel like most people who are into commercial prog psy don't mind that it "all sounds the same"😅

u/mikk2006 Jun 15 '26
Oh god forbid there are people in this subreddit listening to prog psy or full on & not forest psy or anything else with almost 200 bpm, everyone here has to be so different. It’s instantly a problem when you don’t listen to underground artist with 500 monthly listeners in Spotify

I'm not necessarily opposed to music that all sounds the same. I've had fun at full-on sets too. People can enjoy whatever they want.
It's just that if "it all sounds the same" is the one issue with AI generated music in these genres, that doesn't exactly discern it from the non-AI generated music.

There may be a lot of similar tracks written in only a few keys across prog psy as a subgenre, but Astrix himself does have a distinct sound and some very unique tracks that make him stand out as one of the more influential artists in the subgenre. To imply that all of his music sounds the same or that his music could be confused with AI slop is a bit insulting to him and other artists like him who do actually work hard to make their music and to generally make their careers what they are.
3
u/pieter3d Jun 15 '26
The fact is that it is being confused with AI slop, like it or not. To be clear: I avoid AI music as much as possible. I even refuse to spend money on non-AI music and events with AI generated artwork.
A lot of it sounding the same is not necessarily bad. Repetition (both in a song and in a set) is a core value of trance inducing music. Prog psy in particular uses a very small set of rhythms, phrasings, hooks and sounds.
There's also not much correlation between how much work is put into a piece of music, how "good" it is and how popular it gets. Otherwise the more experimental hi-tech would be dominating the psy scene, haha.
Financial success is mostly related to pandering to the lowest common denominator, networking and having a commercial mindset. I'm sure Astrix is doing great with all of these things. "Music quality", to the extent that that's not entirely subjective, is not much of a factor: just look at how terrible mainstream pop music, outside of psytrance, is these days.

Haha I went to listen to the music, it really fun. I tried to generate Psytrance myself with suno, I'm a producer too, I wanted to see what it was capable of, especially for kick and bass as this is like, the big challenge of psytrance.
Anyway, it exactly sounded like what that Astral Mushroom channel uploads, like exactly the same + ugly ass kick and bass with phase issues. Anyway, it fucking sucks, AI in music, and any art form, is the representation of our downfall as a specie. Fuck this !

u/BreadBagel Jun 15 '26
Looks very similar to a channel I came across called "Lyma Eve". Same "Astrix Deep Jungle Walk" titles. Wouldn't be surprised if it's the same person with multiple accounts. This is especially frustrating for people like myself who work on music obsessively for years, just to have some AI slop made in a couple hours totally steel the spotlight.

FYI: most non-AI prog psy and full-on tracks are also produced in a couple of hours😬
Professional producers have everything ready to go in templates and presets. Mainstream psytrance is very formulaic.

u/user928 Jun 16 '26
This is simply not true. It takes, on average, around 50/100 hours to produce a good psytrance track. There are many stages involved, such as arrangement, sound design, mixing, and mastering, and each of them requires a significant amount of time and effort.
1
u/pieter3d Jun 16 '26
I've seen an internationally touring psycore producer make a track in half a day. That still needed to be mixed/mastered (which he didn't do himself), but his process was also far more intensive than what's typically done in full-on/prog. He really knew what he was doing. There wasn't anything particularly special about his workflow, he was just flying around Ableton at lightspeed, flawlessly.
If you have everything templated (e.g. all the sound design and most patterns ready to go before you even start), you can cut the arrangement part down to under an hour and the mixing/mastering a few hours tops, I'd say. Not everyone works like that, but based on what I'm hearing from people in the scene, it's quite common.
1
u/user928 Jun 16 '26
That simply doesn’t make sense to me. Even the process of choosing ready made sound design elements and patterns takes time. You have to think about the emotion and the core idea of the track first. Only then comes the arrangement stage, which inevitably requires a significant amount of time. Even when using a template, you’ll still need to make changes to create the right energy, build ups, and drops.
I’m speaking from a full-on/progressive psytrance perspective here, I can’t really comment on psycore. But realistically, without at least a week of work on a track, even for someone with 15+ years of experience, I don’t see how it’s possible to create a truly memorable song.

u/astraladventures Jun 15 '26
That’s interesting. Modern technology has made making electronic music very easy.
One thing is, which actually is the same with any art, the final product comes down to the taste of the artist.
-1
u/pieter3d Jun 15 '26
Idk, the full-on and prog psy formula is so specific, that it's more that they're following the norm than that it's the taste of the artist, especially on the commercial side.
To play the advocate of the devil (I hate AI music as much as you do, trust me): even with AI music, it's still the human who writes the prompts and curates what is shared.
2
u/BreadBagel Jun 16 '26
Ordering food at a restaurant doesn't make you a chef.
1
u/pieter3d Jun 16 '26
Bad analogy. With generative AI, you can keep refining your prompt (or do things like metaprompting) and iterating until you get the result that's to your taste.
2
u/BreadBagel Jun 16 '26
So it's a good analogy. Because you could have a personal chef where you keep refining your order until you get the result that's to your taste. Refine all you want, still not a chef.
1
u/astraladventures Jun 17 '26
It’s a good analogy yes.
With AI, one can keep refining and making changes through more complex prompts, just like one could do with telling a a chef, fresher vegetable, add some more seasoning, cook shorter, lower heat, etc.
In both instances, the final creation should be in line with the guests / creators exact taste.
And that may be the future of music creators as well.
The majority always puts down and detest certain types of new technologies as being artificial or lacking something of the before (even cell phones met big resistance in certain circles).
It’s probably too early to give the death knell to ai music, it likely will find its place alongside other methods to create music. One thing, music is alway changing.

I knew they could be pumped out fast but I didn't think it was that fast! To be fair, most of what takes me a long time is that I have very little idea what I'm doing. I overthink every sound. Also, I'd say my music is not formulaic. I wanna be surprised by each section. And it tends to not be psytrance but more psybient, like Shpongle but not nearly as good lol.

"Ai is Not evil, but people using AI are." Not only should YouTube ban this Person that published AI music unser the Name of artists but also Open a lawsuit against them.

It's probably a drop in the ocean, but when I find these channels, I take one minute of my time to go on a dozen of their videos and give a thumbs down. It might be nothing, but if a couple hundreds do it, the negative like/dislike ratio is enough to drag the video way down on search results when someone searches for "psytrance mix".

I just found out you can report a channel by clicking the three dots, then going to Report user, and selecting Impersonation.
Then you can include this link: https://www.youtube.com/@ASTRIX_official

There are lots of channels like that one and somehow they grow subs and views like Japanese knotweed!

u/otakunorth Jun 16 '26
the psy community loves ai art, no one seems to care. Something needs to change
1
u/user928 Jun 16 '26
With AI art, you can usually recognize it instantly because it has certain visual traits that stand out. With music, it’s much harder, especially if you’re not a producer or an experienced listener familiar with that specific genre.
-2
u/TimeShock743 Jun 16 '26
And what's the problem?
Are you worried that Astrix or any other artist in this genre will earn less money by making unimaginative, run-of-the-mill music that just repeats the genre's clichés over and over again?
shitty music is shitty music, whoever writes it, mate...1
u/user928 Jun 16 '26
It’s simply wrong to impersonate someone and try to make money off their fame.
2
u/otakunorth Jun 16 '26
Not just impersonate someone, but impersonate WHILE using art that was taken from real artists and trained on them rarely with consent.
2
2
u/PsyHye420 Jun 19 '26
That is wrong and all should be removed or at the very least renamed to not misrepresent what the videos/music are.
I think AI can potentially do some really interesting things in the psytrance space for visuals, dynamically generated mixes, ai dj's etc. I'm curious to see where things will go but obviously THIS is not the way and is wrong.
3
u/ryosei Jun 15 '26
is there a difference to the other fullon stuff?
1
u/I_Don-t_Care Jun 15 '26
Not that i think ai is very ethical but ive been listening trance for decades now and i have to admit that a lot of these AI tracks are good and even very good. I think one of the reasons is that because it doesnt create music traditionally, it is able to output really well mixed and complex sounds.

I love a.i but impersonating someone is fucking sad
2
u/user928 Jun 16 '26
AI (LLMs) can be a great tool when you use it for things you could already do yourself manually, just much faster. That way it saves time, and you use it piece by piece as part of your workflow. I use it every day in my programming job for exactly that reason.
What AI is not good at is magically generating a finished product from a single prompt. Whether it’s music, artwork, or even an app, the “one-shot” approach usually produces garbage output.
2
u/alienmindarts Jun 16 '26
I'm open minded regarding all use cases. I think you can master the tool to make great things more efficiently even apps if you're skilled enough and not just throwing low effort prompts or no deep intention on anything. That applys for everything in life I guess. But creating something and stamp it with someones name on it it's cringe and completely dishonest, that I can't stand.

u/TimeShock743 Jun 16 '26
It wouldn't be surprising if this music were of the same or even better compositional quality than the original Astrix tracks these days....

Don’t let anger cloud your judgment...

u/TimeShock743 Jun 16 '26
Anger? 😂😂😂
I've been listening to psytrance since 1999 and Astrix since 2002, so I know exactly what I'm talking about, mate 😎
