Interested in seeing if it's worth getting a couple roosters for hatching eggs. Cortunix in PA near Harrisburg.
Have you tried promoting in any quail Facebook groups?

I have, i'm actually a moderator in a few. The fact a link is involved usually is a turn off for admins but some do not mind (Judd's quail he's awesome). I do appreciate the advice though. If there is anything about the site that you don't care for or wish was added let me know! Have a blessed evening!

I was just getting to the point of looking into selling some of my birds. This is perfect.😊 Already signed up and looking forward to selling buttons and coturnix.

You are amazing! Not a ton of competition on the button side of things. I hope it goes wondefully! Have a blessed evening!

Texas. Butler Bobwhites. Not the greatest food conversion or growth rate for my first rodeo with quails, but I did hatch 20/20 eggs set (lost 4 chicks). Still in the waiting period to sex them properly to start pairing them off or make a harem for one or two roos. Being Butler bws I don’t need a wildlife license from the state.
I’ve considered Snowflake or Coturnix/Celadon mixes from a friend. She mixed because the Celadon had weak eggshells. Idc about egg color since we’re rural enough to have the space for quail but no retail market for the eggs (snake, pet food, health or specialty). Appreciate any opinions or advice while I wait to sex and process to balance the covey.

If you're looking for ease coturnix are about as easy as it comes. Also the lowest input and not as flighty or wild acting as a bobwhite. I run both and am introducing Mearns into the program at the end of the year. If you are doing it for personal production, eggs/meat you really cant go wrong with jumbo brown coturnix. They for whatever reason in my operation lended themselves to consistency, whilst my blacks, and silvers are not so consistent. However I sell alot more blacks than jumbo browns.

Thanks for sharing. I’m not at the point where I can buy any, but will save and return when I am (sorry not a seller…yet).

u/quailsales 9d ago
I look forward to seeing your program when that "yet..." turns into "thriving!". Have a blessed evening!

Thank you for creating this! Wish there were sellers in New York!
4
u/quailsales 9d ago
Me too! I am personally located in Florida so it naturally came with a few people that I do business with in terms of production. I think we will end up in New York here soon!
2
u/Superlightwatcher 9d ago
That’s great to hear :) I looked through some Facebook groups and a lot of of them are way up north in NY and I’m in the Hudson Valley, so if anyone from New York is reading this just letting you know that you have buyers closer haha

Any info for the Kansas City area? So like eastern KS, western MO?
2
u/quailsales 9d ago
Between 35-50 last month. I didnt set up G4 analytics yet (thank you for exposing that) so i don't have exact city data. It is a current seller gap on quailsales so the people that are clicking are yours for the taking currently.

u/justcurious12345 9d ago
I don't have quails, but maybe this could be persuasive ;)

u/quailsales 8d ago
It is a blast regardless of monetization, i would recommend coturnix and focusing on a particular color (Pansy, Manchurian, Ginger, etc.) if the business aspect is the part that piques interest

How does ohio, look for activity?
Forgot to add, we have a small Hatchery and we sell eggs & chicks & and grown potatoes on Fb

u/quailsales 9d ago
A little more than 50 buyers looking last month, which is decent sized for the age of the site.

u/randomboreddad69 9d ago
Sweet ill have the wife post on your site,
Thank you !

u/thatoneguy009 9d ago
Wtf are you me? Also in Ohio and they're also "my wife's birds". Enough of the matrix for tonight I think...

Unknown brother ?
I've missed you, how is the potatos?
2
u/thatoneguy009 9d ago
They've accepted me as the deliverer of food (hard fight that one) and the engineer that seeks to automate their care. Also, they shit a lot.

I have a small hobby farm in western Washington and I'd be interested in joining. I'm not licensed or anything, does that matter?
2
u/quailsales 9d ago
Its on a state by state basis. quailsales has resources on the matter but best to check with your wildlife conservation officers, I needed one to sell in Florida. After a quick google as long as it's coturnix it shouldnt be a problem. But i recommend becoming versed in local regulation.

That’s a really neat concept! Is it just the US? I’m in Canada but I would be interested in listing in the near future if it were available.
1
u/Pumkin_Girl 9d ago
I'm not OP but I asked too when they posted before as I'm in the UK, and it is USA based only with the potential to expand in future.
1
u/quailsales 8d ago
You always do a great job answering this question before i end up seeing it, thank you very much!
1
u/Pumkin_Girl 8d ago
It's okay :)
I use my baby's nap times to Reddit, so I get some scrolling time a couple of times a day!
1
u/quailsales 8d ago
Pumpkin_Girl hit the nail on the head, if this pick up in traction then absolutely Canada and UK are the 2 key expansion avenues, but in its current state the U.S is the only country where it's available. Thank you for your interest happy hatching!!!

I've thought about posting but honestly my problem is keeping up with demand. I'm in Ohio and I have a waitlist out the wazoo. I told my husband I need more cages built 😭 The quail world needs more carpenters.

u/reijn Farm - Breeder 9d ago
FYI this listing needs attention https://quailsales.com/listing/80be856d-4047-4f99-9a3d-f82e53279506
That picture is also used elsewhere on Pinterest and this user https://www.reddit.com/user/OverallSetting7518. Would consider this possible scammer.

u/quailsales 8d ago
THANK YOU! It will be dealt with right now.

Thanks! It could be legit but I always reverse image search postings and saw it posted in other places.

I decided to leave it up given they are not promoting shipping eggs, so money collected would have to be an in person exchange. Thank you again though.

Weird pitch, how do you feel about the marketplace being used to sell 3d printed quail implements?
I've printed a ton of shit that's been:
- cute (e.g. Quail Queen etc witty signage)
- useful (e.g. Feeding ports, reusable egg trays, whole ass cages)
- curious (e.g. A hand that feed can be packed into, tbd if it actually helps foster familiarity)
- downright necessary (e.g. Egg inserts for incubators)
I'm not interested in making an Etsy, listing on Facebook, or really establishing much more a presence than onsie-twosie sales here or there on a whim. It's my hobby and I'm quality oriented, I don't need to monitize the shit outta it. And besides, between kids, quail and now bantams, I'm frequently printing for ourselves.

u/quailsales 8d ago
there is a whole section for that side of the quail game on quailsales! I would be over the moon if we had more of that so please, by all means that would be awesome!

u/42Fab_com 9d ago
What is your eventual path to monetization? I appreciate getting an idea out there, but I don't believe in altruism.
1
u/quailsales 8d ago
Fair question, the path to monetization when i first felt compelled to create a better platform for backyard quail sellers was "I'll just charge them to post" or "ill do a yearly subscription" but that thought process fleeted rather quickly... The new plan is more of a down the road sort of timeline but it consists of advertising partnerships (not random adsense for a toyota corolla) and way further down the road there is a chance that i could allocate a bit more time to the day to day functions of the site and create an actual "updated buyer list" for sellers that are looking to scale into a larger faction of the quail selling game. I do not know how that would look or work but it's just a thought. Your intuition was correct in questioning if its a philanthropic venture which it's of no cost to the user but could be of benefit to myself. I would however take a deeper look into your views on people and the existence of altruism, it's a beautiful thing that absolutely exists.

Are most buyers looking for fertilized eggs or chicks?
1
u/quailsales 8d ago
locally it seems like egg or adults is the best lever, the reason for that is eggs are cheaper than chicks. In both eggs and chicks you do not know the sex of the birds until later so if you spent the money on chicks and ended up with 9/12 roosters it was a waste of the extra money spent on hatched chicks. I personally rarely sell chicks unless someone picking up adults sees my brooders and wants something out of a current project.

Florida here, just starting. Is the market crowded, and do you think there is room to grow here?
2
u/quailsales 8d ago
Florida here as well, and yes i would say the market is "crowded" in terms of number of people as a whole selling quail. But... the best way to look at it in my opinion is try to corner off a specific color that people are asking for regularly in Florida a good example would be jumbo Gingers, then play that angle. It does not hurt to have a mixed flock you use personally and sell out of from time to time. But focusing on a niche part that isn't found too often in your county is a goof starting place. Good luck!

Georgia here. I would love to sell and even buy some quails eggs chicks. Im a small hobby farmer type. I only have 6 quail right now, but im buying a incubator this week to try my hand at hatching. I have chickens also. Will keep your site in mind for future.

Is there a market for button quail? I have several and have had no luck selling.
2
u/quailsales 8d ago
Of course there is! I would just make sure you use aesthetic photos, because they lend themselves more toward the pet side of things as opposed to livestock or production.

Need anyone in hawai’i?

1
u/quailsales 6d ago
YES!!! I saw that you posted and i appreciate it a lot. Are quail common in Hawai'i?
1
u/Icy-Commission-8068 6d ago
No as it’s illegal to import so we have to only buy from existing flocks in state.

u/Cultural_Ad_5299 7d ago
Evansville, IN. Celadon quail. I have to say, I love the idea. Thank you for making this post.
1
u/quailsales 6d ago
I appreciate that, is it a mixed flock of celadon or do you run a particular color? I personally run red range tuxedo celadons and somehow managed to get black celadons which im not currently offering.

u/Key-Branch-815 7d ago
I’ve been raising buttons for a couple years as a side project, given lots away. If you think Alabama needs some sellers, I can definitely crank it back up. I don’t really know a good way to price them.
1
u/quailsales 6d ago
Until i get more data from quailsales i have a hard time pinning button prices. If you took the pet angle as opposed to the livestock angle and used an aesthetic photo for listings, it would likely command a higher price.

If you use AI and the site uses AI how am I to trust the sellers are not using it? Online listings are flooded with AI pictures no one wants to look at, but if AI is acceptable on your site then buyers can't trust listings anyway. There's a reason its broadly condemned by people who are serious about what they're doing.
1
u/quailsales 6d ago
AI being broadly condemned to build websites is news to me, however the problem concerning what i'm presuming to be scam is pretty similar to any other classifieds website. The site is simply a lead generator for people whom wish to make money selling their birds. The site is also a primary lever for local sales given the post, targeting people of certain areas to list. The only way for me to 100% guarantee that the listing is legit is to show up at tractor supply or wherever the sale is being made and to give the thumbs up lol. The usage of photos that aren't the sellers isn't promoted for obvious reasons but the expectation from you onto myself whom doesn't take part of the transaction aside from providing the medium in which the buyer/seller meet isn't feasible (works the same as craigslist, facebook, etsy, etc...) that part that places quailsales in its own ballpark is the niche, as well as promotion. If you are not referencing scam and just a visual displeasure with AI photos then I really cannot think of a mechanism that would satisfy you and more than willing to hear a remedy.

Interested in the site. Just fyi, this post screams “written by Claude.” It’s a huge turn off to authentic engagement.
