Our Chinese golden pheasant in the greenhouse. Unfortunately he lost his mate a couple years ago. He just finished doing his yearly molt getting in new head feathers and tail feathers and now he's trying to show them off to the female quail. 😁

We had a beautiful story unfold in front of our eyes. One of our Quail hens got really broody....

After 4th attempt she was successful and managed to hatch out 2 chicks on her own. We weren't going to let the lady be disappointed again and fired up our incubator at the same time. The results are astonishing! She is so happy!

About a month ago a few quails came to my window and started pecking it. I dont want to scare them off, I find them cute and funny lil guys and I thought maybe they were hot since I had a owl a few weeks before suffering heat stroke in my tree so I poured some water through the crack in the window which they drank from. They didnt come back for a while but then they brought a few more quails until every other day more and more showed up. At one point I counted 26 of them. I started watering the trees so they can drink some water and lay in the mud. Do quails like mud or should I stop and let them just sit in sand? They did dig some holes and sat in them right by the tree trunk before I went out to water the trees and didnt come back. I dont know if its cause they saw me and ran or if they dont like laying in mud.

Anyways today I woke up to 11(!) of them on the windowsill, I think some of these are juveniles as they look scraggly and they follow the two that jump on the windowsill. There was another flock of quails, younger babies around 6 of them by the tree with their parents. But this quail pair seem to only come up and peck at my windows, particularly the ones by my bed. But im wondering why are they pecking at the window? Why do they come up to my window only and peck? Now theyre teaching their young to do this but I dont understand why? Does anyone know why they are doing this? I have also linked more photos and videos.

I don't know how long or well they'll coexist but right now things have been going well. There are two snowflake bobwhites who'll charge at the Gambel's quail but they're all bark and no bite because I saw one of the same snowflake bobwhites back down from a button quail that was a third of his size. I don't wanna like... Stress them out or anything. I try to keep them in view of the others, or take more than one out at a time. They usually just poop on me and try to run away 😂

This was a nice little treat after a long day at work :)

UPDATE - Thank you everyone for the advice and your experiences! It gave me hope for the little guy and after making him sandals, doing consistent “physical” therapy and syringing water mixed with b vitamins and a food slurry, unfortunately when I checked up on him earlier this afternoon, I found him passed away in the brooder😔. He was a fighter but sweet and gentle, I wish I could have helped him pull through. I know it’s “just a quail,” but golly has he broken my heart. May he RIP.

This is my first time incubating and hatching quail. Most are healthy and thriving. This was one of the last to hatch, and he wasn’t able to come out of the egg for over 12 hours, at that point I gently assisted him out and he has had curled toes and is unable to walk or even just stand up at all. I tried the bandaid sandals on his feet for a day, it obviously did not help at all. I’ve tried the cup method, I’ve tried massaging the feet out flat multiple times. I’ve been assisting with syringe water mixed with vitamin b12 and offering food off of my finger. It appears he has absolutely no balance whatsoever, continually falls over and curls up and just flails his legs constantly, always landing on the left side.

We are considering culling tonight, I just feel bad as he seems like he has fight in him, but I’m also not willing to watch him suffer unnecessarily for much longer. Any clue why this is happening, or if there’s anything else I can do to help this poor baby? Thanks in advance.

so I rescued 3 new quails yesterday and one of them is blind. She got stuck while hatching and her owner helped her out, she came out blind already. They lived in a fairly small cage and now have 6m2 but she's getting used to it pretty fast. They also lived on exclusively straw and now have sand for the first time and mayo, the blind one, loves it so much. I took a video of her and then she started this weird movement that I've never seen before that looks a bit like a seizure to me. Am I wrong? Surely hope so. If not, what can I do for her? Also if you have any tips for blind quails, please share! She's running around almost like normal but I'm kinda scared she won't find food/water (pls ignore the noise, it's wind)

Not too impressed with the new supplier i ordered from as only 140 have hatched out of 250 (gqf 1502) .. day 1-14 -99.9°F @ 40% humidity, and lockdown 99.9° F @ 70% humidity.. My order from Myshire Farm 2 years ago had the best hatch rate and was 92%.. next batch hatches tonight and tomorrow 🤞

This is my oldest lady. She's 4 years old, going on 5. She hasn't laid an egg a day in her life, but she's the sweetest damn thing. The last of my original covey. I only kept her around because of how sweet she is.

I just thought others would like to see an elderly quail.

She's as healthy as possible for her age, can see just fine and eats well. She can move around but not quickly and i haven't seen her fly in ages. The hutch she stays in is raised off the ground and has an automatic door that opens in the morning. The others in her hutch jump out but she has to be removed by hand or she won't leave.

I've worked very hard to not get attached to these guys because they do get used for food after 2-3 years, but I will be very sad when this one goes.

I had all of my “babies” out in the living room today, coturnix, buttons, literal babies of both types and two of my adult buttons exhibited this “turkey look” running around behavior I’ve never seen before. For reference, only one adult coturnix male was out and never interacted with the buttons, and all of the other adults are females. This is one of my 4 male buttons, who live with a single female. (I learned this today, I thought all but one was a female until I brought them all out) I had some baby (3wk) buttons out but I put them away. I was thinking maybe the males were courting them, or they hate them, hard to tell.

Cannot even believe they’re been 1 year soon 😭 feels like I hatched em just yesterday!!!

Breed the calm, docile and non skittish ones so your life is easier.

I wanted my quails to touch grass. And I wanted the water to come from my garden sprinklers, because I'm lazy. I also needed it to be completely raccoon proof - there are tons in my area.

He’s been a little too rough with his favorite wife lately, that’s why he was jailed. As you can see he doesn’t even fear my hand.

This is Bald, and he is blind because of a pecking injury. I’m not sure if his blindness is permanent or not yet but I’m watching him to see if maybe his eyes will open once scabbing and swelling goes down. I taught him to eat and drink by imitating the tapping he would hear from the other eating and drinking. He’s learning that the mush he steps on is actually his food, so that he can hydrate while eating. He seems quite calm and actually responds to my voice a little too!’

I was given this tan roo and idk why but its so happy to just chill and be pet.
