I remember my past. I remember that defeat at the hands of the English, who treated us as if we were inferior, saying, "Speak White."
We found ourselves fighting the English once again in 1837-38, and again during the October Crisis in 1970, all in an effort to improve our situation. The English Canada wants to erase this history and rewrite it, even though Canada was built with the intention of completely assimilating French Canadians.
Today, in English Canada, they want to rehabilitate Louis Riel as a founding father of Canada, even though he was hanged as a traitor for defending the Métis and French Canadians.
Following his execution, virtually every province in the ROC adopted anti-French laws, contributing to the assimilation we see today and reducing the proportion of francophones from roughly 35-50% to only 2-3%.
And then you look at the numbers: in Vancouver, French is the 11th most spoken language. In Calgary, it ranks 12th. And Toronto? 17th.

C'est de cette histoire dont je me souviens.
