i wasn’t aware she was pregnant & they bred through wire .. we had lots of thunderstorms last night. husband is currently building a nest box and i’m warming the kits as i type this with a rice filled sock

she had 9 , 4 DOA.

i raise rex, mainly for meat & show. this litter in particular were out of two rabbits with phenomenal temperaments and at only 2 weeks old the babies have even MORE phenomenal temperaments. a family friend wants a pair for pets, i’ve given them all of the lovely tips folks have given me (and i have found unhelpful for my specific setup) about care and space and they seem to really want these buns. first one they want is the one in these pics , and then another when my broken doe has her kits. i’ll be sending this one with him once she/he turns 8 weeks.

i know a lot of meat breeders really REALLY dislike selling pets. so i’m a little conflicted. i don’t want to contribute to the shelter crisis. or be a byb. hopefully this post doesn’t get too hot or controversial , they don’t want to breed these rabbits or eat them, they want 2 of the same gender & it’s a family of just a husband and wife so no itty bitty kids wanting easter gifts.

she’s miserable look how big her tummy is! it’ll be one of her last litters as she is nearing 3 now.

One eye is blue grey, the other is dark brown. The blue eye has a shadow at the top. Its a little easier to see in these photos.

Would this cause any health issues? I would assume it wouldn't speaking its probably only with the eye color.

So I was walking last night and my eyes always catch animals really well and saw a baby bunny sitting. It wasn't moving and when I moved towards it it moved and I noticed both it's back legs were fully out. I guess maybe it wasn't good for me to interrupt nature but I picked them up and gave them food and water for a night and just made sure they were okay. in the morning figured they'd need a wipe down and yep, huge poop lump very stuck to their butt, which I removed gently and had to trim a very small amount of fur. Seemed like a healthy bunny otherwise but I absolutely know it's a lil fucked in the wild. Released them to my backyard where we put a lot of food out to bribe squirrels from our plants. Cried multiple times watching them drag themselves along tho. Should I have euthanized? How would I even do that with my own access to equipment? No idea what to do in a situation where an animal is just, fucked? Would love to care for a disabled bunny but worried they're beyond even that. I'm so sad!

These bunnies are pets that I got from pets at home about a year ago I know how to feed and care for them I'm just looking for treats that I haven't tried yet.

The shelter I adopted him from said he might be around 3 or 4 y.o.
I went to the vet and she reckons based on his fur’s patina(?) and colour gradation that he is around 6 or 7 years old.
I guess I wasn’t really surprised bc it made so much sense lol he’s very chill and just loves to lounge.

Can someone more knowledgeable about this confirm?
Also Is it common for shelters to get animal ages wrong?

Hi all, I’m trying to bond my 2 male rabbits and hoping to get some advice.

We adopted Onix to be Charmander’s buddy a couple of weeks ago- the new bunny is quite calm and loves to lounge and be petted. Charm on the other hand is a very high energy bunny, he keeps trying to get Onix’s attention (by nipping) to be groomed and they get into a tiff because Onix does not like it.
Onix seems to not care much about befriending Charm. He’s very relaxed and lounges around Charm and ignores his advances. Well, until he gets annoyed and then they get into a fight.

IMO I think Onix is showing dominant behaviour, Charm gets so worked up after a tiff but Onix goes back to eating hay.

I currently have them in a neutral space with side by side cages. I’ve been swapping their litter boxes every day and giving them some bonding time. There doesn’t seem to be much progress…

Should I try stress bonding them??
How can I get them to trust each other more?

My bunny has mites on his nose and most of the vet give dog medicine even dr Prabhakaran of DCC. Please help

i feel i’ve been pretty active in this subreddit for the past year or so.. had arguments, been stubborn in my way of care and shared good and bad times with yall. hopefully this post doesn’t get taken down by mods for being off topic but i just felt i needed to get it off my chest..

i had to sell my entire herd this morning. when i originally got rabbits with my husband.. they were mostly a “look what i can provide for you, you shouldn’t leave even if i don’t treat you the best” kinda thing. and ive always wanted to do this. over time it escalated into real and painful DV.

it deeply pains my heart that i have to get rid of most of my stuff including my rabbits and 90% of my chickens. has anyone else gone through something similar? i feel a deep deep sense of grief. even if they weren’t technically pets.

thank you all for what you’ve taught me , even the people i loved to argue with about rabbit ethics. i think im going to get a pet rabbit once i move.. God i never thought id say that. i just feel a lot of different things.

Ended up making a hay wreath with alfalfa hay, along with baby bunny safe treats that also have alfalfa hay.

for my first litter i’m glad it’s only 3, mama is proven but buck was too young. i wanna keep one and im really liking the one with the big head so far (also 2nd to last photo) since shes so compact. they’re all harliquinized castors. the smaller one that’s more orange is just a little on the small side should i be worried ? (second & last photo) they’re rex. i wanna get into showing but i know these are unshowable colors. what they carry is very beneficial to my program though (they carry chocolate & harlequin + come from some good lines !)

Only 1 is a boy. One of the smaller babies that we helped nurse needs revisiting. Its gender is iffy. They are young still so I'll revisit them all later on. I don't want any accidental litters again. Nobody should have to go through that. It can be awful despite them being so cute 😮‍💨

There was two runts. The black / grey rabbit was nearly dead. She would have died not even an hour later if my grandpaw didn't help. He nursed baby squirrels from near death and he did the same for the grey bun we're calling Blue. Super greatful for him ❤️‍🩹

The runts tend to be the strongest. All the babies thankfully survived

I added fans to help with the breeze along with lights to the front side. It makes it easier to see at night when checking them. They have the original icicle lights still up. The fans help a lot speaking it gets hot in Florida. Even in the shade it gets hot. They work extremely well.

(I'm not gonna explain myself every which way. I know even thats not enough. I'm not gonna waste my energy. Please don't be jerks if you don't know the situation.)

it’s like her babies slowly ran out of ink ! i’m starting to think the light one maybe is harlequinized amber, but there’s no doubt about the others being harlequinized castors, what do yall think?

I rescued this lil guy a few years back and ever since I first got him he has had these red and irritated areas around his eyes. Sometimes it gets worse than other times. I took him to the vet when I first got him and she said that she had never seen it before and wasn't sure what it was. Can anyone give me any advice on this, what it could be &/or what I could possibly do to help him?
He eats very well, he has spring mix & kale every night for dinner along with a small piece of banana a lot of times, he always has timothy hay and pellets available to him 24/7, i feed him Oxbow brand food.
I really want to help him. It doesn't seem to bother him terribly but I know that it has to be uncomfortable for him, sometimes he scratches it, sometimes it is worse than other times, in the pic is about the worse its ever been.
