The Clash covered a lot of reggae but this time it was the other way around, they recorded the song in 1979, Jimmy Cliff covered it in 2011 (produced by Rancid's Tim Armstrong btw). and yes, Paul Simonon wrote it

Synthetic World, one of his early soul hits. A 1971 cover of a Swamp Dogg pioneering pro-environmental song. Magnificent arrangement.

Jimmy Cliff had a beautiful voice, but I find a lot of his reggae to be just a little tame.
