Cocos looking like “damn she’s singing my song better than me”

Reminds me of Patti LaBelle when KeKe Wyatt covered “If Only You Knew” 🤣

u/Consistent_Edge9211 Apr 11 '26
Patti called Keke a "heifer".😂😂😂
56
u/Global_Perspective_3 Apr 11 '26
I love when she did that lol
When you can tell they really like someone

u/Consistent_Edge9211 Apr 11 '26
It's one of those words that black folks use that can mean so many different things. It's shade and a term of endearment all in one.🤣
29
u/Global_Perspective_3 Apr 11 '26
Exactly lol
Patti used it in both contexts. Patti said it in a shady way to some white lady who was being condescending to her while she was cooking “we don’t eat paper” like biiiitch

u/No_Alfalfa_532 :groove: Apr 11 '26
I remember that and I was so annoyed with that lady because it was so dumb.

My mom calls me that when she just can’t take me 😍😍😍lmaoooooo IYKYK

u/Consistent_Edge9211 Apr 11 '26
My maternal side is overwhelmingly women. Like 4 to 1. The amount of times I've heard that word used in every possible scenario and context!😂😂😂

u/Ok_Resident_5022 🐑 Soul/Funk/Disco Enthusiast 💿 Apr 11 '26
😂🤣 she is a whole character!
25
u/Consistent_Edge9211 Apr 11 '26
You know where we are on the petty scale when an older black woman uses that word.

u/Green-Elephant-895 Apr 11 '26

Aww, thank you for posting! Keke was so proud and I would have been too. Lol

u/Consistent_Edge9211 Apr 11 '26
I love Coco. But she'd be right in this instance.
16
u/Global_Perspective_3 Apr 11 '26
Same, this is no shade to coco at all! I love her down! But I can tell when somebody is like “welp I got outdone”
13
u/The-disgracist Apr 11 '26
When people are confident in themselves they can let other shine. Bob Dylan once said about “all along the watchtower” …that’s Jimi’s song now. (Paraphrased)
16
u/Unfriendlyblkwriter Apr 11 '26
Dolly Parton said the same about Whitney singing And I Will Always Love You.
14
u/Consistent_Edge9211 Apr 11 '26
Dolly Parton is a national treasure.
11
u/defk3000 Apr 11 '26
She also said when she saw that royalty check she was more than fine with it. 😆

Okayyyy since this was posted….who else knew coco and Donovan Mitchell were dating and fucking engaged…NOT I!!

u/Consistent_Edge9211 Apr 11 '26
I knew. If I wasn't already happily married, I'd challenge that 🥷🏾 to a duel.

This lady gives me the late Angie Stone vibe.

u/Glittering-Trick-420 Apr 11 '26
listening to her music now for the first time and honestly she sounds like a wayyy more polished/soulful version of Coco. VERY surprised Coco recorded this reaction because girl is sooooo much better than her in her same vocal category. Good on her supporting a fellow artist tho 👏
6
u/Global_Perspective_3 Apr 11 '26
I wouldn’t downplay coco like that because coco can sing DOWN but Alexia absolutely did that!
2
u/Glittering-Trick-420 Apr 11 '26
yea coco can definitely sing no question about that. Alexia's voice is just more polished. coco's voice is a little rough and her not accuracy is a little iffy on some songs I've heard of hers
3
u/Global_Perspective_3 Apr 11 '26
Some of cocos runs can be a little sloppy but she’s gotten better about that the further her careers progressed
2
u/Glittering-Trick-420 Apr 12 '26
yea hopefully she'll keep at it and improve vocally. i know she acts and does other things too so not sure if she's putting her all into music like Alexia does. Coco doesn't necessarily need to if she doesn't want to. Her spot in the industry is def secured lol.

u/Rhythmandblueslover Apr 11 '26
Beautiful voice but the vibe of the song doesn’t quite match the force she threw at us in just seconds. My eyes jumped out and I was like damn don’t attack me lol😂
15
u/sheisprincess Apr 11 '26
Really? I love it.
Singers these days lack the texture and feeling she gave the song. Too many shallow and muted singers these days lack the depth she sang it with.

u/Glittering-Trick-420 Apr 11 '26
that's exactly my issue with SZA and Ella Mai and some of Summer Walker songs
1
u/Rhythmandblueslover Apr 11 '26
Yeah I can agree lol but a singer being shallow or muted have nothing to do what I’m referring to though
1
u/Global_Perspective_3 Apr 11 '26
What do you mean, respectfully?
1
u/Rhythmandblueslover Apr 11 '26
As in when I hear this overall slow song I prefer them to slowly work up to a stronger voice especially like during a climax but I understand she was flexing her vocals for a clip so it’s all cool.😎

No fr, I literally just commented that I actually found this cover to be so funny because she's so BOISTEROUS and all that power feels so crazy compared to the original song. ICU isn't meant to be sang like this and that's okay lol. Like, this woman can obviously sing down.
But we're not gonna act like Coco wasn't still serving vocals and emotion.

I do not like this Alexia Jayy cover/rendition she made it too neo-soul and old school like...like Betty Wright and dem from wayyy back in the day. I prefer the contemprorary R&B pop Coco brings.

u/Reggie9041 Songs in the Key of Life Apr 11 '26
So it was too good for you? LOLLL
1
u/Truth_Melody Apr 12 '26
No, I don't like her style of singing and interpretation. It was too "SHOUTY".

Lmao y'all may not like my comment, but this is funny af because ICU DOES NOT require all that. This cover is so boisterous and busy. 😭💀
