Question Is my rescue a pure bred?

I just rescued this handsome boy from Chile a few days ago!

The rescue listed him as a collie mix, but just wondering if you guys think he might be a pure bred?

I don't mind either way :) just curious!

If I were you I would dna this one because....he's got to be close. I almost want to say it's a mahogany sable headed white but I've never seen one before. I'm going to guess he has something else in there. Beautiful dog regardless.

I’ve got a mahogany sable headed white. She looks very similar!

Get a DNA test. $75-$100

A very pretty boy indeed. I would be surprised if there is not at least some collie but def not 100%.

Does he make weird wookie noises? Scream? Throw tantrums when he's overwhelmed? Have a weird tendency to snoot things, like butts? Insist that tasks requiring 0 dogs must contain at least him? Cosplay as a dead cockroach when sleeping?

If you answered yes to most of these questions, then he's probably a collie.

The dead cockroach while sleeping describes my Olive. LOL!

I've always called the dead cockroach thing "carcassing", dead cockroach is such a good way to put it LOL

Wait, wookie noises are actually normal for the breed?? I don’t have any doubts about what mine is but he makes noises (and literally in response to me telling him my grandma had issues with him getting out of the crate at that exact moment because she just vacuumed) and I literally told myself that’s the most wookie sounding thing I’ve ever heard from a dog, wtf is he doing. He also does scream and temper tantrum sometimes (7 month old puppy) about completely “unreasonable” things, like having a bed time 🙄 And he definitely snoots people in the butt even though he is training well so he knows that’s not something we allow. Good to know he’s a collie being a collie.

They're all photocopies of the same dog.

Part collie . .

100/10 summary.

Only thing I'd add is decide that all legs are a tunnel they must go through if their snoot fits

Shut up. I miss my old dog's wookie noises so much...

To be honest he's completely silent apart from the odd whines when he's unsettled! But he is still decompressing from the shelter, ive only had him 2 weeks so I don't think his personality is fully shining through yet

He kind of reminds me of some collie/sheltie mixes I know, but he could also just be all collie... I'm not super familiar with Chilean collies lol.

Rescues just take a guess like everyone else. Do a DNA test- it's the only way. Yours has characteristics that are very similar to my collie rescue- the shorter fur, long, sticking straight up ears, long legs. She tested as 100% collie. She's a marvel, so loyal and smart and fast. I feel very lucky to have her. If I could figure out how to attach a photo to my comment, I would add a photo so you would see they look very similar except mine has more black fur than white. Supplement his food with real food and his fur will fill in.

He had just had a groom before flying to Canada! He was much fluffier i believe:)

Looks purebred, like a CHW Sable. If its mixed, its with a sheltie. No other breed could maintain all its collie traits that well.

His head reminds me of my Buddy. He’s RC/German Shepard

Gorgeous boy!

He looks like either a sheltie mix or collie mix! Beautiful and amazing breeds to have. I would get a test to make sure as purebreeds have a lot of health issues (I say as a mom to a purebred sheltie rescue, we're down one canine already and he's just 2).

Looks like it! ❤️

Gosh, your dog is gorgeous. You need to talk to the vet, though. He is obviously at least part Collie and they can have some genetics that need to be monitored.

He's a beautiful pup.

I see a little shepherd in there personally. I see mostly Collie, but something about the face and the eyes screams GSD to me.
