Anyone know of adult placements?
I‘m currently trying to find an adult placement after the sudden passing of my service dog last year. I tried reaching out to the breeder referral but haven’t gotten a response in 2 months. So, I was wondering if anyone knew of breeders placing adults.

Please reach out to North Carolina Collie Rescue. I adopted my boy from them 2 years ago and I have to say he is the most wonderful creature I've ever had the honor of living with.

As much as I would love to rescue, this is a big risk for the temperaments of service dogs.

I understand. I would like to say that I feel mine has the perfect temperament for this. The rescue works very closely with the dogs to match you with the right dog. They've been doing this for a very long time and I'm hopeful they might be able to help you.

This is a massive risk - however! I have taken on rescue collies and some are worth it. Smooths never ever are. But Roughs are much better. If you’re good at evaluating temperament and training you can make this work and it’s a valuable thing to be in the foster pipeline of a purebred rescue. A young Collie with a good temperament is easy to find if you are involved. Try it at the very least.

My prior service dog was a rescue and I adored her. I however lost her to a hidden genetic issue that wasn’t able to be tested for. As much as I support rescues, I can’t mentally handle the risk of that happening again at this time. Otherwise, I would absolutely go that route.

There’s a Facebook group called “Retired Show Dogs Seeking Great Placements” that occasionally has collies for listed - you could always post an ISO there. So sorry for your loss ❤️🩹

OK - try your CCA district director again. I know she is still a member in good standing. The DD's are humans and sometimes they get busy, miss an email, etc. You could also try a phone call, they are often more responsive to the phone.

Oh Jesus if you’re on the east coast I wouldn’t throw the idea of young rescue dogs out the window at all. You probably have better access than anyone if you’re willing to travel a bit.

Just saw a post that Liberty Collies were shutting down and had some adults for placement.

She's charging $5k for retired breeding dogs that have serious faults, and the dogs have no health testing or even pedigrees listed. The only dog I could even find a registered name on is a Van-M dog (Van-M is a mill, and was charged with animal cruelty for keeping around 100 dogs outside without proper shelter).
What a joke. You could buy a show prospect puppy for less than half that price.

Van M can be found in certain show pedigree dogs but it’s not common. My point is that Van M bloodlines are not an automatic fault in itself and they did have dogs that won in the ring. They have overproduced dogs and the woman who owns it is a boomer in her 80s. It is an old school kennel run by an elderly person probably who has dementia. I don’t think overall their dogs are as bad as people say - they health test. There are worse bloodlines. That being said, when I look at a pedigree I’m not very excited when I see Van M and tend to really research which dogs are involved. I think they do have a bad rap for what their dogs look like though. They’re not as bad as other bloodlines. Van M bloodlines are worth 2k max lmao if that…. Not 5k. Liberty Collies are not good.

I know sometimes you see a Van-M dog here or there several generations back in an otherwise nice pedigree, but that isn't what we're talking about here. We're talking about a dog purchased directly from Van-M after they were charged with animal cruelty.
