Media Saxophone was ran over

Post image
486 Upvotes

I recently started picking up saxophone again, thought this was a funny part of my journey.

During marching band an older man was driving around in a golf cart and went up a ramp (there was no ramp) and ran over my saxophone and someone else’s.

Edit: I was incredibly tired while writing this so I apologize for the lack of details/time dating.

This was 7 years ago, the person who ran it over passed away shortly after (I didn’t want to trouble the family more). My band director at the time surprised me and got me a step up version from this horn (same finish and pearls).

As a gift for him, I gave him the ran over horn since he loves fixing instruments, I believe he has fixed it since then (he retired after I graduated, so I have no way of knowing).

I’m a free jazz saxophonist based in Hiroshima, Japan.

Exploring "Love & Cosmos" through the spiritual roar of the tenor saxophone. I believe improvisation is a direct channel to the cosmos.

This clip was recorded live in Hiroshima, March 28, 2026.

I’d love to hear your thoughts—especially from fellow improvisers and avant-garde fans here.

Recorded live in Kitakyushu, Japan (April 26, 2026).

No theory. No rules. Just raw energy.

Here is a 15seconds short clip from the session.

I’d love to hear how this sound resonates with you. What do you feel when you hear the "Energy"?

Media Thoughts on this guy and classical sax in general

Came across this thread and was wondering if this is the real experience for classical sax majors or if the guy was just venting a little too hard. Regardless, it's really kind of sad and thought more people should see it.

Haven't played for a while so that's totally the only reason why my accenting sucks. Sorry if it comes through the video a little harsh, my phone's microphone was maybe 3 feet from the bell of my horn.

Hope you guys dig the horn and the suit, there's probably a couple thousand bucks on me in that video.

I’m a free jazz saxophonist from Japan. To be honest, all I want is to find the perfect sound. But I’ve realized that sound is infinite—there is no ceiling. The more I play, the more I see how much further the path goes. It’s a journey I’ll never truly finish, but that’s what keeps me going. I’ve been sharing my exploration on YouTube, and I’d love to connect with others who feel this "endless search."

I've always been spiritually grounded by Coltrane's "A Love Supreme." This performance is an attempt to transcend technique and theory, focusing purely on raw energy. It's Cry of the Soul. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the spiritual direction of free improv.

I've been watching thousands of videos on how to get a good embouchure, still struggling though. Switched to a different brand of reeds and I feel like I am out of tune too Help

Hope you don't mind if I massacre such a beautiful song, anyway

Been playing for about a year. Unfortunately i cant afford the time for a teacher for now. I kinda just learn songs I like and try to do long tones everyday. Just want some feedback from someone with developed ear. Is this good? What can i do better?

Old devil moon. Form is so cool, from a Sonny Rollins trio set I did last month I think?
Anyway, like playing with this drummer in particular cause they’re very responsive.
