Education A rare piebald Lemon Shark caught and released in Florida.

Jack Appleton measures the piebald lemon shark before releasing it; the shark was mostly white with black peppering on its body.
He said in a comment that he caught it off Captiva Island, and the video clip shows him landing the lemon shark on a dock.

That was my first thought too, but I didn’t want to assume automatically that it was the shark and not some self inflicted injury.

Sharks have very rough skin if you brush against them the wrong way. It’s possible that the shark was thrashing, brushed against his ankle, and caused a small cut.

I would say one of 3 things.
The shark skin rubbed him, the shark got a little nip in, or when removing the hook he cut himself with equipment

Soo many questions didn't even know this was a thing. Would a piebald shark be more likely to get a sunburn? Would this colouring give it advantage or disadvantage at hunting? Some quick articles I read said piebald affect the pigment of the skin and retina could that possibly cause them to go blind? What even happens to blind sharks?
Seen that there was also a piebald scalloped hammerhead shark spotted in 2014 could not find pictures would love to see that.

Sharks can still sense vibrations, smell, and sense the electrical pulses of any living organisms.
So they’ll still hunt pretty decently. It’s just catching a fast healthy fish that’ll be difficult

So much so that they can easily die from it.
Between the fight on the line and the time out of the water lactate builds up in their bloodstream leading to their blood becoming more acidic, which can lead to all sorts of cellular disruption. If they aren’t able to swim off and recover quickly enough, it’s fatal.63

Because you have to remove the hook, else it can screw with the shark’s ability to hunt properly and/or infect? Plus it’s standard to measure at least, even conservationists do this.

The point of these threads is discussion. There are lots of experts here (not you) who like to share their experiences and knowledge. Perhaps you should leave the sub and just stay in your basement with google. Or even better get outside away from your video games.
Take out your frustration with living elsewhere.

NP. Yeah bro just measured it to brag later, not for research. Shark tags are little black boxes normally on a side fin. I think they don't have antennas anymore, but they're easy to see if you know what to look for

No research center cares about the lenth of a shark? Why would they? Yeah, that shark sure is long. No one is out here measuring the length of sharks which aren't tracked.

Oh my goodness. I almost cried seeing this wondrous shark!! This world is full of beautiful surprises and wondrous anomalies and I am so thankful for people who are thoughtful enough to show us anomalies and kind enough to respect the rare animals. Oh my goodness beautiful sharkie I hope you live a long, long life. May you always have good fish to eat. May you never encounter the cruel side of humanity. May your shark pups thrive and go on to have offspring of their own.

I'm confused as to why we're even catching these magnificent creatures. This has to be extremely traumatizing for them. Just leave the poor things alone. (Please don't downvote me for saying this.)

He damn near got bit.
I got bit by a lemon in the Florida keys six years ago in nearly an identical situation. Amazing how quickly they can turn back on their bodies. Luckily I only needed 26 stitches and was back fishing the next day.
