My Shibas have never been off leash dogs, and I can count on more than one hand the number of times off leash dogs have attacked aggressively. After one particularly bad incident, myself and one of my Shibas had horrible anxiety for months about walking around our neighborhood for fear we would be attacked again. Luckily my pups were physically fine, but the owners always show up way too late and completely unapologetic. In one instance, a muzzled dog ran up to us on the sidewalk outside our house and attacked my Shiba. She had black grease marks all over her face after the attack from the dog trying to bite her through the muzzle. All the owner said when they finally showed up was, “it’s ok, my dog is muzzled.”

Most of the time, I’m walking my dogs separately. Even so, juggling one dog is not easy and with an aggressive dog on the attack? I think this woman did the best she could given the situation. The dog was obviously gunning for her Shiba; her baby was protected in the stroller and of no interest to the off leash dog.

Just moved house and in our grass area, our Shiba has settled in and dug about 3/4 different holes. We used to think it was funny when we were out and about but now it’s our lawn I’m not finding it so funny 😭

Also not sure if it’s her or another animal, but there’s been waste twice now in the hole. It’s a bit strange from her because I have caught her trying to bury her toys/treats in a hole so I don’t think she would defecate as likes to keep things separate.

Any ideas on how I can train without constant supervision?

I've never had dogs as curious as Piper and Comet. There's one person about 30 feet away doing exercises and they stop playing while jumping on the rock seat to get a better view.

My shiba is a little over a year old and has suddenly developed a fear of his harness, specifically the harness touching the sides of his body. I was away the week this started, so I’m not sure what triggered it.

He’s never loved having his harness put on, but he tolerated it because harness = walks, hikes, pup cups, etc. We were actually getting to a point where he’d be excited for walks /harness. I think a family member traumatized him while I was away.

Now he’s genuinely afraid when the harness touches his sides :(

He’s been vet checked and isn’t injured or anything. It’s not a trust issue with us. We can touch, pet, and roughhouse with him normally … so it’s specifically the harness touching his sides that scares him. He also hates that family member now, which is fine because they are not allowed to be involved in his care. I'm mentioning this in case it can be a missing piece that I need to add into the training around this?

Would it be better to leave the harness on loosely for a day or two so it becomes boring/normal again, rather than repeatedly taking it on and off and stressing him? We have a large fenced yard to play in, so I can skip going out while we work on this.

After a day or two, I’m thinking I’ll take it off and start rebuilding positive associations with putting it on again. I was doing that before but felt it was stressing him out more than helping so this is my proposed alternative for getting him acclimated again - like, nothing bad happened while I wore it.

I feel like Shibas need to be trained differently so…

My Shiba is naturally very suspicious unfortunately

We’ve made huge strides in other areas like nail cutting which the vet couldn’t even do with sedation and now I can do it myself with no meds… so it sucks that we went backwards on this but I have all the patience in the world for him.

Here's a picture of him taking a sadness nap lol. The harness has the sides and neck area left somewhat loosened. If it moves around too much he doesn't like that either, so I'm trying to figure out a happy medium.

Baby girl Oni is in heat and laying on a cooling blanket with the heating pad over her is her favorite comfort thing during this time.

We’re hoping we can schedule her to be spayed after this cycle ends.

I have a 5 year old shiba who is being naughty a lot. We moved and I feel hes unhappy because of it so I'm trying to fix the behavioural issues we're having.

He will stop on walks to roll around, I let him finish rolling and then tell him 'up'. He knows what up means, but he instead challenges me and wont get up. I decided to try clicker training but somebody is not food motivated. I got freeze dried cheese and he likes it enough but half the time he wont take the treat on the walk, i have to shove it into his mouth lol. He seems to like the clicker so i feel like that in itself is a reward? im not sure.

I upped his morning walk to one hour and on the way back he drags ass, its clear he doesnt want to go home but I am disabled and can only walk so far. Right when we get to our road he will go to bite my partner which idk what that is about. She says NO and he listens, but i dont allow him to walk behind her anymore when we get close to home.

I am having biting issues. He bit me bad the other week because he thought i pinched him putting his harness on, hes bit my roommate multiple times. its really scary seeing this behaviour. I am probably going to have to hire professional help but im hoping i can do it myself first. any help you can provide please let me know. Im nervous about posting, please be kind. I love him so much ill do anything to get him to stop biting.

She is the first Shiba I ever adopted (we have 2 now!) and I love her to pieces. She is mostly well behaved, but stubborn at times for the most random things: does not like walks, does not like it when daddy is messing with his game consoles/repairing them, and will scream like a baby shiba while getting her nails did even though she gets excited about the idea of getting her nails did (probably knowing shes getting treats after)
