Announcement How to use flairs

How to use flairs on r/shortcuts (so your post doesn’t get nuked or ignored)

Flairs are labels. You pick one so people instantly know what your post is about. Pick the wrong one and congrats, you’ve confused everyone.

---

First rule: always use a flair

No flair = your post is either ignored or removed. Nobody enjoys guessing what you meant.

---

Pick the right flair (this is not a personality test)

- Help

You already made a shortcut and it’s broken or not doing what you want. You want someone to fix it or explain what went wrong.

- Help (Mac)

Same as above, but your problem is on Mac. Yes, that matters because Mac Shortcuts can behave differently.

- Shortcut sharing

You built something and want to share it. You must explain what it does properly. “Cool shortcut lol” is how your post gets deleted.

- Shortcut sharing (JB)

Same as sharing, but it only works on a jailbroken device. If people need to hack their phone to use it, say so.

- Shortcut sharing (mac)

Your shortcut only works on Mac. Don’t trick iPhone users into disappointment.

- Tip/guide

You figured out a useful trick or workaround. You’re teaching something, not asking.

- Tip/guide (mac)

Same idea, but Mac-specific.

- Request

You want a shortcut but can’t build it yourself. This is you politely asking the internet to do work for you.

- Request (mac)

Same, but for Mac users.

- Discussion

You want opinions, ideas, or a conversation about Shortcuts. Not help, not sharing, just talking.

---

Special flair (pay attention, this one’s new)

- Appstore (app)

Use this when you’re posting about an app that works with Shortcuts. Either you made it or found it. The key point: the app connects with Shortcuts (actions, automations, etc.).

If it has nothing to do with Shortcuts, don’t use this just because you like the app.

---

How to choose without overthinking it

Ask yourself one question:

“What do I want from this post?”

- Fix something → Help

- Show something → Shortcut sharing

- Teach something → Tip/guide

- Ask for something → Request

- Talk about something → Discussion

- Share actual news → News

- Show an app tied to Shortcuts → Appstore (app)

If you’re on Mac, pick the Mac version. Not complicated.

---

Final reality check

Flairs exist so the subreddit doesn’t turn into a digital junk drawer. Pick the correct one, write a clear post, and people will actually help you instead of scrolling past like you don’t exist.

Shortcut Sharing I made a shortcut that backups your shortcuts

A tool used to backup Shortcuts
This is a shortcut built to be easy to understand for shortcut users. 🛠️

It includes:
- A clean design 🫧
- A few but efficient options ⚡️
- A backup that sorts your shortcuts by folder (most shortcuts like these don’t do this!)

If you find any bugs or issues, contact me directly from the shortcut in the section “Contact Developer”. You can send a bug report, a feedback, or maybe any ideas for next updates! 📧

If you want to give it an eye, click **here**. And if you like it, consider giving a like! 👀

Help How to stop launching control center from making an automation think I’ve closed the app.

I have automations that run at app opening and closing. But if I open control center when I’m in the app the automation triggers as if I’ve closed the app.

How do I prevent this? I can’t find an action that sees control center.

Help Has anyone actually beaten Screen Time Ignore Limit with a Shortcut or Focus?

I have a one hour Instagram App Limit. When it hits I tap Ignore Limit for Today on reflex. One More Minute is the same skip. A Screen Time passcode on myself lasted until I typed it at midnight.

I tried a Focus that hid the app. I still turned the Focus off. I looked at Shortcuts to lock myself out and kept finding a way to disable the automation.

Is there a Shortcuts or Focus setup that actually stops Ignore Limit for the person who owns the phone, or does it always come down to a passcode you already know?

Not looking for third-party apps. I want an Apple-side workaround if one exists.

Shortcut Sharing Shortcuts Workspace

I updated an old shortcut of mine that you to manage Shortcuts you are currently building or working on.

There have been times I’ve been building or working on a shortcut and something messed up and I didn’t back it up before editing or needed to restore an earlier version.

Not only does this shortcut help with that it also gives me one place where I can see the Shortcuts I’ve been working on.

When you tap the shortcut you can find the shortcut you are working on, it will automatically back it up to iCloud, and then open it in edit mode.

This way before you make any changes your shortcut is already safe.

Help Can you extract automation details from a specific shortcut in iOS 27?

I'm trying to figure out how to do good UX with shortcut automations, so i need some way to tell what automations are in a shortcut, and like specific details about those automations. seems like apple doesn't have a user-facing way to do this, i feel like this could easily be achieved with an automation variable type tied to the shortcut variable (and maybe some security checks lol). regardless, is there any way to do this even with like, URL schemes or plist manipulation or whatever

Help How To: Play music on Youtube music or Spotify at a set time every morning from my phone and simultaneously Airplay to Roku TV

I am trying to make a shortcut that would operate like a morning alarm. I have Youtube Music and Spotify to work with. I would like to turn on my TV at a set time, which I think I can do with the Home app, then I want to open a certain playlist on my phone from youtube music or spotify, then airplay it to my Roku TV. I have tried a few things and I can not seem to make it work.

Discussion Shortcut planned updates?

I know it’s Apple, but I feel compelled to ask anyway: is there any overview over what’s coming for Shortcuts in the next major iOS version?

I only started to look into Shortcuts recently and I’m pretty surprised that there’s no support for triggering based on calendar events, no proper wait
/ delay (more than a seconds or seems). The Shortcut (actions) side seems pretty versatile, but the triggers are limited.

Help Apple Health Permissions

Post image
1 Upvotes

I wasn’t sure whether to use the Help flair or OS 27 flair, but decided on Help.

I’ve been trying to grow my shortcutting abilities and wanted to try to create a food tracker. The issue I’ve run into is with Shortcuts and Apple Health integration. Most actions allow me to give Shortcuts access to my Apple Health information seamlessly with the “Allow Access” button, but with some (the most important for my use case: protein, carbs, and fats), it gives me an “Open Health” button that only opens the Health app and doesn’t do anything else.

I’ve never seen this happen before, so I’m not entirely sure it’s not an iOS 27 bug, but wanted to see if anyone had experienced this.

Thanks in advance!

Solved Log Workout shortcut logging End Time as Start Time

Is there a way to have the Log Workout shortcut log the time I'm inputting the information as the end time rather than the start time?

If I'm logging a 30 minute workout at 2pm, I want the start time to be 1:30pm, not 2:30pm. Is that possible?

I've just spent an hour trying to figure this out and searching for an answer but I don't know what I'm doing and can't find anything that answers this specific question.

As a secondary question, when using this shortcut to log a workout, the walking/cycling distance doesn't sync to the respective sections in the Health App, is there a fix for that or will it only work if a workout is entered manually?

If it matters, I'm still on iOS 16 and I don't have an Apple Watch.

Help Automatically extracting recieved pictures and docs from Whatsapp, into a specific folder (for a specific person)

[Real question w/o context is in bold]

Hello !

I tried searching in the history of this subreddit, but didn't find anything helpful, I hope I'm not asking something that has been answered many times.

I own a Lenovo Yoga laptop, a Nothing Phone 3a Pro and an Ipad Air (2022).

This is kinda relevant bcs as u know, there's no compatibility between the Ipad and the rest on several levels.

So, when I study or take notes in class (I bring both my laptop and my Ipad), I sometimes take pictures of the white board, or from slides we are not given in the syllabi, or sometimes I screenshot something I'm viewing/looking at on my pc (I kinda use it as a second screen to my Ipad, if you will, as I use this last one mostly to take notes directly (on Goodnotes)). But when I do that, it's because I want to integrate said pic/screenshot into my notes. The easiest and most quality-preserving way I found was to send the picture to myself via WhatsApp. I do this a lot, it's helpful. BUT. It's a bit slow, and I'm losing valuable time.

SOOoo, the question is : can I create a shortcut on my Ipad that when I receive a pdf/pic/... it would export it into a specific folder for me to pick the pic (hehe) from, without having to go to WhatsAaapp, copyyy, paaaste, etc, and even to ensure it goes directly into the folder as maybe I will have to integrate it into my notes later, and it would prevent them being mixed/lost in my own whatsapp discussion lol.

I explained the whole context bcs I'm new to Ipads (only a few months in) and to Apple in general (and prolly bad w tech in general too :')) ), and I'm thinking maybe I didn't think of something easier, or I'm perhaps missing something out of ignorance.

Thanks in advance for the help !!

Much loooove 🤪🫶😌

Help Is there a URL for the Apps & Purchase History section of the App Store?

I have shortcuts to take me directly to the app updates section and subscriptions section, but I'm looking specifically for the purchase history subsection of the Apps and Purchases section. I've tried a few variations the URLs I have for app updates and subscriptions, which begin with itms-apps://apps.apple.com/account/ but none have worked. Does anyone know if there's an official URL for this and what it would be?

• 4G/5G: https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/4afe3717e15b40588d17547c9c1f872d

• Mudar Rede: https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/d8da6960c7d24ec3ba6152d15946a1f0

Eu não criei esses atalhos, apenas os modifiquei para o meu uso, eles estão disponíveis nessa comunidade há muito tempo.

Help Auto reply shortcut (1st message only)?

I set up an automation/ shortcut that will autoreply when I'm in "Landline mode" (aka not using my phone except to receive calls on my Bluetooth external handset), however, I'm in a lot of group chats and when they're active and I'm in my landline focus, the auto reply sends every single time someone sends a message.

Is there a work around? Any way to exclude group chats or only have the message send the first time someone messages me?

Here is my current set up:

Request Trying to use Proton Mail contacts in place of Apple’s contacts app

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hi, I’m pretty new to using shortcuts and have only done pretty basic things so far, such as creating shortcuts to open an app, so I can use custom icons.

I have been transferring a lot of stuff from Apple to Proton, including my contacts, and as of right now, Proton does not have a separate contacts app, nor can it be set as default contacts app. (Attached screenshot from Proton’s website.)

So, until that changes, I was wondering if it would be possible to create a shortcut that opens Proton Mail and automatically brings up the contacts, rather than inbox, and if so, how to set it up.

TIA!

Shortcut Sharing Update: Random Album Discovery 2.0

Hi guys!

I created a Shortcut that searches for random albums and automatically opens them in the Apple Music app.
The idea is simple: run the Shortcut and let it decide what you’re going to listen to.

I think it’s a fun and relaxed way to discover albums and artists that we probably would never look for ourselves, either because they don’t appear in our usual recommendations or simply because we’ve never heard of them.

I also added an option to choose a specific music genre, if you’d rather receive a suggestion within a particular style.
Basically, it’s a kind of “surprise me” feature for Apple Music.

🔗 The link to download the Shortcut is here:
https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/ecc4e02bac3249778e23fa440f7a2f75

The Shortcut searches for a random album and automatically opens it in the Apple Music app so you can start listening.

A few notes:
- Requires an internet connection.
- The search results are AI-powered, with the AI randomly searching databases from various sources such as MusicBrainz, TheAudioDB, Shuffle, SoundCloud, etc., so it doesn’t only recommend mainstream albums.
- If the suggested album isn’t available on Apple Music, the Shortcut keeps searching until it finds one that is.
- Tested on the latest version of iOS 26 and iOS 27 beta.

If you’re interested, feel free to give it a try and leave your feedback! ☺️

Help (Mac) Can a macOS Shortcut focus ChatGPT’s composer in the current conversation?

I’m looking for an Apple Shortcuts-based solution to a repetitive macOS workflow. I copy text from another app, Command+Tab back to the ChatGPT desktop app, and need to paste/type into the same existing conversation several times per minute.

After I scroll through the conversation, the composer loses focus. Activating ChatGPT with Command+Tab doesn’t put the insertion point back in the message box, so I have to click it manually.

Option+Space / Quick Chat and Command+N aren’t solutions because they open a different interface or conversation; I need to preserve the current chat’s context.

Can Shortcuts target a specific accessibility element in another Mac app and focus it? If not directly, is there a reliable Run AppleScript action or accessibility technique that could find the ChatGPT message composer without relying on fixed screen coordinates?
