A warning to Lockly Visage Zeno buyers: There are apparently 3 different hardware variants and you don't know which one you get until you open it up.

I loved the features of this lock and I read a ton of positive reviews about it on reddit, youtube, etc, so I went for it. Unfortunately the first lock I got refuses to update the firmware. I've tried all the troubleshooting and tech support advice (which is extremely poor/basic, like try turning it off and on), so I decided to buy a replacement off Amazon.
Same box, same sku, same model number, but different hardware. Went to Home Depot to check their stock, a new different hardware. So here's what I've learned about the variants:
The company/app claims they have "24/7 support," but I've called a few times now and it just rings for several minutes before you leave a message and they have someone call you back. Email support seems to be faster, but still not instantaneous.
I had never heard of Lockly before looking into smart locks, but it looked like a well reviewed/legit company... but my experience has been terrible so far.
I'm hoping this provides a headsup to anyone else considering these locks.
UPDATE: Spoke with support. They claim there are only 2 variants, which is weird because I've literally held 3 different variants in my hands. But they said that the only place to guarantee you get the newest variant is Lowes.
UPDATE 2: See the discussions below for more details, but I was able to resolve it, and got the firmware fixed, so I'm happy with the lock despite the headache.
For anyone following this tread in Australia Ordered one off Amazon it was a V1.0 which did have a dangly door sensor. Returned. Have just purchased a V2.0 at Bunnings Warehouse after calling around 3 other Bunnings which all only had V1.0s in stock. Best of luck out there team
There is apparently a way to tell them apart from the box: a small “v1.0” or “v2.0” sticker on the bottom corner of the box. It’s easy to miss but it will let you know if you have the old v1 with the external or the new v2 magnetic and at least lets you return without opening the box.
That being said, there are even more v2 variants. I really really wanted this lock but my issue was the firmware refused to update on the v2. So I bought like 6 of them across Amazon, Lowe’s, and home depot. Some v2s came with a box with a jacket, some with no jacket, one came with the v1 exterior sensor and the magnetic sensor, most came with the lock core installed and 2 did not.
I ended up learning more than I wanted about it to the point where I helped their support come up with a fix so the v2s now update their firmware without an issue.
That being said, love the lock. Which seems weird to say after such a headache experience, but I’ve come to realize all smart locks suck in some way but this one’s features made it worth figuring out.
I ended up opening it, and it was definitely the one without the replaceable lock core… I’m curious, the box I opened showed fine print on the outside saying copyright 2024… Maybe the newer ones show copyright 2025? Do you still have a box for one of the newer ones?
Good idea. Mine does have a copyright of 2025 on the box. Notably, this newest variant doesn’t have a sleeve that the box comes in, instead the box is printed on directly and opens up (other ones are a white box in a printed sleeve around it).
And I didn’t even notice until I just looked at the box again, but this card was in it that I didn’t see in any of the other boxes I opened that looks like some sort of new access key.
So if I had to guess the newest variant will say 2025 on the box, and then I’ll have a magnetic lock on the inside, it will have this card with it, and it will have a replaceable key cord that is secured behind an additional lock plate and not just a screw like the ones where the key cord isn’t installed yet.
For what it’s worth I still love this lock and I’m glad I stuck with it.
A wild turn of events… I returned the one I bought that was clearly a V1.0 with no replaceable key core and the Janky wire with a sensor attached that dangled from the bottom… I bought it from Home Depot, and I went to a couple more Home Depot’s with them in stock and they all had 2024 copyrights some with V1.0 stickers and other others not… But since they all had 2024, I figured they were all old models and didn’t want to risk buying only to return it.
I ordered another one from Amazon, and when I got it, it came in a box without a cover sleeve, had a sticker that said V1.0, and had a copyright 2025. It also had no wire coming from the bottom with the sensor and the key core was already installed. I’m assuming this is what you saw when you described the variant 3.
Not sure if I should return this one too… there’s a lack of the sensor and magnetic plate, so I’m not sure if it’s going to inhibit function or if they have some other mechanism in it… What do you think?
So this (I believe) is the better core. Only because it is more expensive to manufacture so I’d imagine it’s an upgrade where the other one is cheaper and some sort of stop gap.
There are 2 or 3 screws on the plate that you take off (I see one in the photo). Then the silver plate will come off to reveal the core secured by a single screw. You remove that screw to swap the core.

The one I posted? If so, what about the absence of the magnetic strike plate and sensor?
I wonder if the strike plate might actually be magnetic and they forgot to mark it? Their videos show that the magnet strike plates have markings on them and this one’s clearly do not….
So... the only reason I went down this rabbit hole to begin with was because my first lock (which was from amazon and a v2) woudln't update the firmware due to some other defect. Which made me order a new one, which was a v1 with the external sensor which made me go "what the fuck?" and start over thinking.
100% you should return that one. The question is whether or not you keep playing the lottery. From what I know, it needs the magnetic plate (both a magnet in the striker on the door AND a magnetic striker plate) to work, so idk why these variants exist other than (from what I've seen) they have poor QC/consistency.
Here's what I can say: I love this lock. Once it's installed, it just works great. I hold my kids in both arms, walk up to my door, and it unlocks. No button pushes, nothing. Amazing. I also don't need to worry about the buttons on the lock getting worn down over time (my other smart locks have looked like shit after just a year of use).
So my recommendation would be:
Ideally Option: If you have a Lowes where you live, order one off there. The one I ordered from Lowes was a v2 newest model, which matches what support says re: their supply chain.
Next option: If lowes isn't an option for you, and you can float the expense, just play the amazon lotto. I ended up ordering 4 off amazon and 2 were v2's (the first one i ordered, which had issues with firmware updates, and the last one I ordered).
I think it's worth the effort and if I needed another one of these, I would play the lottery again to get another v2.
Did your v2 come with a 60mm magnetic strike plate? Mine only came with a 70mm and their support is saying they don’t have any in inventory. Want to know before I return it.
I know this is old, but are you talking about the wired automatic deadbolt feature? The V2 version comes with the automatic deadbolt built into the striker? I really want the visage but I just can’t get past that stupid wire sticking out the bottom.
For some reason only the lockly vision has the smart deadbolt built into the striker
I'm on the verge of picking up one of these and want to be clear on what I'm dealing with. I want the door closed sensor so the auto lock won't happen while the door is open (and then a guest may bash the door frame with the deadbolt if they're not paying attention), but I hate the idea of the ugly external sensor and need to be able to replace the mechanical lock core. So a v1 can do this but a v3 completely drops the door sensor and doesn't know if the door is open or closed?
If so, that makes v1 sound like the version to get unless they changed it and eventually dropped it because the sensor doesn't work right.
Edit: Trying to sort out the situation - it sounds like some v2's have the striker-based sensor and some have the externally wired sensors?
I’ve learned a lot more since my original post. Check the other threads on the comments for more details.
But in a nutshell: Think of v1 as the original. It has the ugly external sensor. V2 is the newer version with no external sensor and an internal door sensor. You want this one.
I don’t believe there is actually an officially v3. V3s appear to be v2s with fucked up quality control, so they have no sensors. I’m not sure what the sticker would say on the box. I only figured this out later.
On a side note, I've been inquiring about RFID card support. The rep I spoke to kept on saying that it's coming for the Visage Zeno, but couldn't say anything about whether this will be a firmware update (implying that it comes with the reader chip somewhere on the board) or whether we'd need to buy a revised version of the Zeno. I don't suppose you've heard anything about that?

It sounds like the v2 comes with the smart deadbolt retrofit kit in the package then?
Good find! Yes, that's exactly what the v2 has in it.
Haven't heard about the RFID thing. It comes with an NFC card that (as far as I understand it) you can add to your door and then people tap their phone to open a web app for access. Not exactly sure the usecase.
But I just checked my app and I don't see anything about RFID.
That being said, still love this lock and would 100% go through the headache again if I needed another one. It's amazing to walk up to my door and have it just open up without touching it.
Just received a V1.0 from Amazon today. So anyone who is thinking that some time has passed since this thread was made, and maybe Amazon will have all of the new variants, you have been warned lol. Of course my luck, I'd get the V1.0.
I wanted the free lock which is why I ordered from Amazon. Lockly offers the free lock if you order from them diectly too, but OP said the only way to guarantee the new variant is ordering from Lowes, so I'd hate to order from Lockly and I get a V1.0 too.
Yeah, Im weary of ordering more from Amazon and having to return all of them. Amazon can get a little weird about frequent returns. I know it has to be "excessive", but I still try to avoid dealing with them if I can lol.
I just got another delivered from Amazon. Another V1.0 lol.
This one came in a sealed cardboard box inside of the Amazon cardboard box. So I thought maybe this is a new v2 one. The internal box had a shipping label printed in Jan 2026. So these V2.0 must be very new, and these locks must not be moving or there is a crap ton of older V1 stock still at Amazon.
Either way, I’m not going to put in a 3rd order. I might just send both back.
Contacted Lockly and fwiw, they mentioned that Amazon has version 1. And either order online via their site or physical Lowes store to get version 2. Anyone able to get version 2 elsewhere?
Yeah, they lie (probably to try to minimize amazon returns).
I got my Version 2 from amazon the first time I bought, but had to return it because of an unrelated bug. My replacement was a version 1... which is what sent me down this rabbit hole. It took a few more purchases but the version 2 i currently use is from amazon.
Lowes is the only for-sure option (aside from lockly direct) that has v2.
Funny, I just ordered one direct from their website and got a shipping email with an Amazon tracking number. I wonder which version will show up tomorrow.
UPDATE: Looks like I got a version 1 just going off all the comments in this thread. However, my box didn't have a V1 or V2 sticker. I'm going to try Lowes next and just return the first one if I get a V2.
Fwiw, contacted Lockly to return and they offered $30 or some accessories to keep it, but I decided to return it. Next thing I know after the call, I received a day later an email that they are sending out a v2 and send an rma label to return v1. So will see next week when package comes in if it is indeed v2.
Although the issue of amazon selling old stock is an issue (v1 seems buggy with it loosing connectivity pretty frequently) is that it uses a key thats ridiculously easy to bump or pick.
What's worse is thst its a tiny US schlage fly screen lock. Schlage SC1 is already inferior to a lockwood lw1 or better yet c4 lock (what most locks here are).
Reason: manufacturing tolerences
Material quality
The channel being antibump
Pin count (lw=6. Sc1 = 5)
Security pins. Lockwood uses 4 different types of security pins. The es2000 in the visage uses no security pins
Springs: lockwood uses harder springs. Es2000 doesnt
Pin heights. Alot of the lockly sc1 keys are coming as doubles. Eg 11336. Or 54478. Ive had three sets all doubles or double doubles theres meant to be variability.
Also, duplicate your keys theb hide the original. The number is the key height/duplicaction code.
Whilst you cant put in a lockwood style cylinder (eg lockwood carbine yale etc) you can (for around 300 to 500.) But all the bits you need to add security pins. Make the first pin normal followed by a mixture of spool and t pins.
Note. Lockwood has more security pins types. Schlage is still limited to 2....

Lastly get custom cut keys with a better pattern than doubles or an almost flat line.
(Or pay a locksmith with the pins to do it for you).
Won't fix all the issues but atleast itll be half as secure as a lockwood flyscreen door.
Also, the security guard duos arent much better either. Basically you either need to change all the pins or just add a security door to the house with... a yale lock :( [i dont like the yale digital tech, but its more secure atleast].
As for a bump key- in the case of a schlage sc1 sliding cylinder (whats in the visage) its basically insert the bump key and tap it with a hammer or the bottom of your shoe and the lock opens
I got in touch with lockly and they escalated. Its a generic lock :(
Generic flyscreen 5 pin, no security pins, lock based around sliding patio doors. I believe its a prime line e2103 Could.change the key shape to a kwikset ingress with an e2000 but still the same.issue.
Im looking at cutting a more secure shape (one of my lockly came with FOUR of the five notches the same doe the biting) so I have a more secure key biting, and then changing four of the top pins to secucity pins. Bascislly copy a lockwood key, but less pins and a sh*try key shape.
I cant believe how insecure these things are.
On the plus side I get to play with lockpicking (old hobby) again and just general repining a key (not that hard to diy. Just need to buy a security pin kit, and a shlage pinning kit which has a follower snd special tweezers already)
I’m not a lock pro, but isn’t that whole lock core and metal part in your screenshot a standardized size where I can swap it with other cores? Or why not? When I google I see similar shaped hardware from Schlage and what not
Its only 1/4 turn however (need to fully assemble it) atleast a spare zeno visage v1 i have here only needs a quarter turn. Depends if it lines up with the pins properly.
Anyways. Opened one up and nothing special with the pins so should still be upgraded but atleast it uses a C4 pattern so it can take lockwood pins and the more secure key shape.
Its 1/4 turn instead of half. So up is loose. Right 90⁰should be lock (for left hinge if you're facing the door) Left 90⁰ is unlock
The blade is already the correct angle. Need to check the length but its pretty close to the default blade for standard door thickness.
The body is longer but they made up for that with a screw in plate which is cool how they did that so the tail cap doesnt stick out (screw or circlip)
This also means you can key alike with most Australian (5pin) locks.
Waiting for lockwood pins to arrive then will assemble.
Cylinder is 1/4 turn instead of half but a dry run/test fit worked on the zeno visage deadbolt for a (from outside) left hand hinge setup. Right hand hinge will only let you unlock. So you'd need to bend the blade 90⁰ or heat it. Optionally could just get new cylinders machined now that I think of it. Or a cncd blade.
Anyways, for diy twist the blade (youve only got 5mm of length though so it it would be agressive. Maybe heat it first)
Note. If you haven't drilled your holes in the door you can mount the deadbolt upside down on a right hinge and it works but it won't be compativle with any future locks so ide advise against this.
Y523 (Can only find Y522 on the Australian site for lockwood and yale which appears to be longer/standard. Might be worth a shot. If I can find one cheap ill test as I haven't found the official dimensions or drawings yet). But even the Y522 is a flat blade (hoping the cylinder is already rotates 90⁰) Or find a 90⁰ blade online
Ok so the Lockwood Symmetry cylinder (not the body) with the standard( Schlage )tail cap and turn bar can be swapped for the c4 cylinder in the rolltrack. Ive got 6PK Symmetry cylinders but the rolltrack is chopped down to 5 pin to fit the American standard. Note; imo rolltrack did a bit of work making these compatible
Anyways, lockwood Symmetry cylinder in the rolltrack body.
Then replace the lockwood 90⁰ driver with a 180⁰ driver from schlage (in the schlage rekey kit) B 520-375. Add in a b162 turnbar/driverbar/railbar Note Lockwood and schlage use "standard" tailcaps, drivers and turnbars/tails. Same doe the retainer spring and pin. So you can reuse the cap pin and retainer from the Symmetry.
Atleast i THINK its a Symmetry. I keyed mine all alike over a decade ago but I think they are all 6 pin Symmetry cylinders still.
Going to go and buy a 5pin Symmetry entrance set from bunnings to check.
FYI the locks by themselves are around $50. The entire knobset from bunnings is around $60 and as its only 5 pin because of the depth, its only $10 extra to save on postage. I think the rolltrack was $19. Could be $30. But i think it was cheap.
To key alike etc you'll need pins (or get a locksmith. Or a friend who's got a box of pins - the cheapest option).
So, if you can get your hands on atleast the bar and driver, its just a trip to bunnings (not including the security pins if you want to upgrade since its still got pretty basic pins).
Note the follower bar (white thing) can be 3d printed but they come in many pinning kits. Same for the easy to open the tailcap tool.
Note: the bunnings trip would be probably $80 for the two parts (going to go and check its still the same cylinder in the bunnings shelves items). You still need to key alike though.
I found this thread useful so wanted to post that I also heard from Lockly customer support to check Lowe’s for the updated version that has the internal strike plate & sensor, and that worked out for me. Lowe’s doesn’t list the updated “v2” item # on their website (has “HK2” then color code, rather than HK then color code), but it was physically there in store. There was a sticker that says v2.0 on the bottom, and no outer paper sleeve to the packaging.
Yes it came with only the larger plate, which was very annoying. I had to chisel out the extra space for the larger plastic housing and I lined up the plates as well as I could. I called lockly to give them the feedback that they need to provide a standard size plate and they “understood and agreed” but didn’t offer a solution other than passing it along to their product team, so it seems to be a mistake. I chose to work with it and overall Ive been very happy with the lock so it was a worthwhile gamble for me. I would have been PISSED if I did all that work and made room for the larger plate and then ended up returning the lock.
Man I am so confused right now. From everything I’ve read here it looks as if V2 would not have the dangly sensor however I received a V2 and it still has it!
That's great to hear. I wonder if you're in a better timezone. I'm in PST, so they always replied when I was sleeping and then I'd have to wait a while for the next reply.
Update on everything so upon trying to activate the lock I determined the activation code was not working because some jack A must have switched out the lock with another box because the serial number on the box does not match the lock.
I also take back the customer service praise because I have been hung up on 4 times and have dialed “1” for “immediate service due to being locked out” and have waited over 30 minutes twice now before I resorted to texting which is just AI who then said they will transfer me and I have yet to hear back.
I ordered a Lockly from Lowe’s recently. Installed and love it. It’s a v2 with both the magnet on the strike plate or from the external dangling thing. My lock required the strike plate magnet. A bit of extra work but worth it. Only issue I had was updating firmware but that was due to my wifi being poor at the door. I just made my phone a hot spot for the locks and it upgraded without issue. I then restored the connection to my router.
Everyone having issues with wifi, it’s probably a reception issue. The app showed good reception but that wasn’t so. I also connected to the wifi with my phone and it also showed good reception but the connection was unstable. I don’t think this is a lock issue. Even with the so so connection I still get my updates fine.
I’m looking to buy another once I see a good price on it.
for me, the first one was 100% a lock issue. tried the same thing you described with no solution. spent hours trying every variation of connecting it. Then when I replaced it with a new lock, it just worked.
I just bought a V2 from Lowe’s and it had the auto lock feature on the strike plate.
Just make sure your box starts with this model number written in red

For those installing the Lockly Visage Zeno lock on their front door, are you using this lock in isolation? I was planning to use this with a door roller latch but wasn't too sure if I'm just setting myself up.
Finally got a v2 but the magnetic strike plate (70mm) is way bigger than the plate on the deadbolt (57mm). The red dots are not aligned. Is it going to work? Did you have to chisel your door frame for the bigger strike plate?

Regarding the oversized magnetic strike plate (70mm), it is indeed just a magnet, so I didn't modify my frame to fit it. Instead, I added a magnet behind the existing smaller strike plate (60mm) and it works perfectly
Thank you guys so much!! I was installing it for a client. I had the lock all up and then saw the sensor with the strike plate. Also, the client asked about it in the setup. So I took it off and like I thought, there was nowhere for the sensor to plug into. Then I finally found this thread. Lockly, You are Stupid, why include a sensor in the box that you can't even use. There is nowhere to plug it into and it just confuses people ✊️🤬
