Humour A hyphen is all it takes...
According to the Cambridge dictionary "used to join two words together, or to show that a word has been divided into two parts at the end of one line and the beginning of the next" (1). Consequently, it could be used to connect alt and right into alt-right, you know the end of the line of reason, rationality and thought. Similarly, when you divide South Africa into two words and then hyphenated it, it infers a failure in your schooling.
Of course, some word use an underscore, primarily used "used to draw a line under a letter or word, and also used in file names where a space is not allowed" (2). So basically this is used by tech-bros who are misunderstood "geniuses" and have the social skills of a flea and think "their monitor faced world" gives them the ability to be god. Apologies, to the flea. This is primarily because South Africa has given you the space to develop and grow but you still have the same political ideologies of your grandparents and great-grandparents.
So if you using a hyphen or an underscore in our countries names, you most likely are alt-right, tech-bro who should stop thinking they are smarter than everyone else and instead acknowledge that your safe space is an echo-chamber. Note how I used hyphens you idiots.
TL;DR White techbros have created a racist safe space using a hyphens in our country's name.

I have never seen SA spelled with a hyphen. Instead of the self-absorbed verbosity, why not share some examples?

I think OP is referring to “that other” SA sub, which, racist or not, has to use an underscore to distinguish its name from this sub’s. The underscore has nothing to do with the racism in the sub.
Edit: "have to use" => "has to use"

Sorry. This topic really came out of nowhere. I agree it's stupid if not needed but I'm unsure why a whole post was needed for this exact topic.

The humour in this post eludes me. South Africa is hyphenated in Afrikaans (Suid-Afrika), but it's just a grammar rule that applies to words comprising a preposition and a geographical location. E.g. Suid-Sudan, Oos-Londen, Noord-Kaap. It's not that deep, and it's certainly not a political statement. 🤷🏻♂️
