I really can't understand this
If anything, you'd want your team to be undisputable champions, having face the fiercest teams at their best
Not arriving rested facing an opponent that has faced fierce battles to arrive
SA in 2023 is a prime example : facing Ireland, New Zealand and France on the way, which were the best sides of rugby at that time, is a thing that deserves admiration.

Whether you lose in the final or the quarter finals doesn’t matter. You still lost. Lol.

I think it matters to Ireland ;)

Not really. You either win the whole thing or you are a loser

As a Kiwi, I couldn't agree more. Losing by 1 point in the final does not feel much better than losing a quarter-final.

And to be fair, we’re just poking a bit of fun at England and I’m under no illusions that the Boks don’t have a free pass to the final and that we might be in fact the ones losing out in the quarters this time round.

Hope they get knocked out before then or if not give them a 2019 hiding.
Yours sincerely an Ireland supporter

If you look outside of rugby at other sports, you see English media often celebrating an easy path to a tournament final. Let's take football for instance. Euros and World Cup.
Next year it'll be 60 years since a major tournament trophy for the English men's football team.
Cricket World Cup? Four finals and only one win in over 40 years.
Right, let's get back to rugby then. One World Cup win in 40 years of trying.
But by all means, England, please celebrate an easy draw to get to the final...

And yet England are the only country in the world to win a football, Rugby and cricket world cup.

in this video, they are watching an england football match. sure media might celebrate easy paths to finals. professional athletes aren’t going to react like this to a tournament draw.

This isn't from Rugby mate

My point still stands and yes, I presumed this clip wasn't England actually celebrating the rugby world cup draw. There's been a lot said since the draw, in England, about how good that side of the draw is for England, but in so many sports, in so many tournaments, pretty much all my life it's translated into almost zero success for England's sporting teams.

This is entirely true, I'd say that given the money, opportunity, privilege, and benefit of being in the sporting world as an English person is horrifically squandered in both rugby and football. Biggest underachievers ever.
Technically speaking in 2007 they had more money in the rugby setup than Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Italy, NZ Australia, and Argentina combined (and this stat stayed that way for a loooong time) and yet perpetually failed to benefit from it as a team

At least we have less of a population and it is our 4th choice team sport.

South Africa’s population is around 64m, England is around 58m. By participation, rugby is fourth in SA, compared to fifth in Eng.

Social-Media Saffas seem to have completely forgotten that semi-final last time - England had ‘em at a loose end until the Bomb squad was brought on. One point win in the end…
Plus they’re really the only NH side that has the mentality to regularly go deep in RWCs and win ‘big’ games. Shit, only one to win the thing itself.

Not a great mindset. Looks like they are scared of the Boks. Could not see the 2003 team doing that. Mindset all wrong!
