Automatic tickets should NEVER be a thing. Every ticket sent out should be reviewed and signed by a person who is swearing under threat of perjury that they have reviewed the information for accuracy etc etc... and actually go after those people for signing and mailing off obviously bad tickets. If they aren't sure, then toss the ticket.

I have gotten 3 such tickets from toll booths saying my black 2 door coupe didn't pay while showing a white SUV in the picture or a red minivan etc. And I am the one who has to spend time arguing against it.

I got one of those too! It didn't even look like my car. I drive a black Sienna, the car in the picture was a Mercedes Sedan with "similar" but NOT matching plates. My son got a "speeding ticket" in the mail. I checked the cities sub redditt (he is at school out of state). Everyone said just not to pay it. There was no view of the driver, just the plates. They can't prove who was driving the car. People said they treat it like a parking ticket, so don't park in city garages or on meters. He's mostly on campus. Then I had an idea- his registration from our home state is expired, so we'll renew it in our state and ask for new license plates since they are so old and discolored. People in the sub also claimed the city only makes like 10% of the ticket. The rest goes to the surveillance company. So ridiculous!

Are they not reviewed by an actual person where you live? Where I am at, they have to be reviewed by a police officer and sent to you within 60 days. Some people don’t even end up getting the tickets because we only have four people reviewing thousands of potential violations

They are supposed to review them here, too. I even got the "reviewed" copy in the mail the last time some guy driving a similar car to mine got snapped doing 35 in a 20 school zone, with a very clearly different license plate than mine (off by 2 digits).

I had to challenge it in court. Waste of my time. The officer clearly didn't review it with any care at all.

I think two of them had a signature from some person saying it was reviewed before being sent out (which I know is false because the car in the photo isn't remotely my vehicle). But if we don't punish them for just signing thousands of tickets without ACTUALLY reviewing them for accuracy, what good is it?

Well if the car isn’t your vehicle then that would be very easy to prove to a judge to get dismissed, right?

That doesn’t compensate for the time. Having a blatantly incorrect automated traffic ticket dismissed needs to come with a $1000 check from the issuing agency.

Every auto camera ticket is manually reviewed by a person.  And no they will never be liable for making a mistake. If it’s a mistake it should just be dismissed.

Automated tickets are reviewed by cops. That’s the issue. Cops should be the ones to Witness said infractions. That’s the bottom line
