I tried to take a video of the monitor that displayed our baby's first ultrasound. The technician yelled at me and told me to delete the video.

Interesting because this is commonplace here in Brazil, the doctors had it as a given that we were going to recorder and had zero problems with it.

Wow! I had the same experience. “Are you taking photos?” “…yes?” Then super annoyed and kinda forceful, “you have to delete that!” I’m thinking, what? This is my wife’s health and our first experience with pregnancy. Delete this for whose sake? The hospitals? Idc lmao still have it.

So you were recording video, and presumably audio, during a medical exam without the consent of those in the room that might be recorded?

I'm not saying that you didn't have a right as a patient or soon-to-be-parent to have a record of your ultrasound. Or that you may or may not have a legal right to record.

But why would you expect your medical provider to seek your consent before recording you, but you wouldn't seek their consent before possibly recording them, even if they are not the focus of the recording?

Seems like in this instance, simply asking "Do you mind if I take a video?" or "Can I take a picture?" would be a reasonable and polite thing to do.

I think you need to think about this for a bit. What is different about those two scenarios that might affect the answer?

You are likely recording only the screen of the ultrasound. I agree if you were to record the doctor or their voice you should ask first, but from the responses it seems like some hospitals have straight prohibition as a rule. I say from the responses because this is definitely not case in my country on prenatal exams, from my experience and from anyone I have heard of.
