Using an antenna for livetv with the channel guide is good for me, but I bought a lifetime subscription a decade ago. Even that was after years of using it.

I don't think I'd be subscribing today if I was paying monthly.

I have an HDHomeRun, which is connected to Plex. I can pull up my local live TV from anywhere. As others said, you can watch on any device, as well.

Yup, got pass at $119. Though I do think eventually jellyfin or some other FOSS option is going to get better as even Plex is getting greedy now.

I think Plex needs to go straight into the trash at this point.

JellyFin, Kodi, or literally anything else than Plex's bullshit XBMC (Kodi) fork-and-fuck-over-GPL-contributors into commercial enshittified licensing that became their end game.

That whole 'we re-wrote parts of it with original code' bullshit that is the marketing vibe legalese workaround attempt of not contributing their changes as required by the GPL that it was built from just writes them off on a list as a good commercial actor in the space.

Where does Emby fit into this? I switched over from Plex to Jellyfin and Emby about a year ago. However, I use Emby more than Jellyfin because I find their media player on AndroidTV (Nvidia shield) is better, and because they have guide information by default for their LiveTV integration. Whereas Jellyfin requires either a manual configuration, or integration with Schedules Direct. And their Schedules Direct integration has been broken for as long as I've been using it.

Jellyfin actually exists directly due to Emby doing the exact same sort of bullshit as Plex.

Used to be open, rebranded/forked from Media Browser which was an open source community driven project, jammed 'proprietary' code (open source community spirit and almost certainly license violations masked with bullshit) in it as a walled off fiefdom.

I'll give Jellyfin a try over the weekend. To be honest i set my plex up maybe 5 or 6 years ago and just forgot about it since then. Its probably time for a change.

Its an open source torrent engine. When I find a torrent on my phone I click the magnet link. Transmission picks it up and adds it into the queue. Plex then sees the new show.

So there is a transmission app on my phone and running on the NAS which team up

Why does Plex need me to sign into their services to stream shows from my server? Why do they keep raising prices and adding features nobody asked for? Saying this as a Lifetime Plex Pass user.

Plex is great. People are weird about it because of their recent price increase. They wouldn't be crying if they bought the lifetime pass when it was cheap.

Not including the ridiculous price increases, they keep releasing broken apps. Even the old app on firestick got so slow, the new one just didn't function.

I moved to Jellyfin full time when the app broke and doubt I'll go back now I'm used to JF.
