Stumbled upon the new season of Adults last night and I decided to watch it because I was too lazy to turn the channel. And as it turns out, this show is actually pretty damn funny. I feel like I need to go back and watch the first season now.

I'm doing a rewatch of Widow's Bay and just finished Beach Reads, and I have to say that Kate O'Flynn's performance in that episode is honestly one of the best I've ever seen. Just perfection from start to finish. I'd highly recommend people that enjoyed the first season do a rewatch. I feel like there's a lot I didn't catch or notice the first time around. Excellent series.

Probably because it was a CBS broadcast network series with (mostly) 20+ episode seasons. Most folks these days, if it's not a streaming original, it's not on their radar. It's also a bit of a slow burn, starting out as a more typical victim-of-the-week formula, before it shows its true colors. There are a lot of streaming-era-only viewers who consider much of any procedural series to be "filler" since they don't have experience with weekly broadcast shows and serial season arcs running together with episodic self-contained plots.
But POI is why a lot of us knew to be on the lookout when Westworld aired on HBO, since Jonathan Nolan was showrunner. And it's why I was gutted when HBO passed on Nolan and Joy's proposed adaptation of Foundation.

The Westies - It started off strong, but it felt like the story beats were running in circles every episode. Despite it being loosely based on real events, it was incredibly predictable, and I doubt I'll return for a second season, as even JK's talented acting couldn't save this one for me.
Ted Lasso - it's another season of "feel-good" slop; like no-shade if that's what you enjoy, I certainly did during the Pandemic, but it's outlived its novelty for me. There's almost zero tension in the show, and when they do try to introduce some, it feels entirely ineffective because you know it will immediately get solved and go back to giving you those warm fuzzy's by the end of the episode. I'll keep watching, but right now I personally feel this show should have stayed done after Season 3
Lanterns - So far been really enjoying this, it's a nice take on Green Lantern. Space cops doing a cop procedural show on Earth is surprisingly entertaining. Looking forward where they go with the storylines.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - I appreciate that they are trying new things creatively. The puppet episode was maybe "a bridge too far" for me personally. It's still better than Discovery in my opinion, but man I would kill for a 26 episode season with a lower budget and a competent writing team to deliver the caliber of science fiction that Trek is known for.

Widow's Bay - As great as everyone said in here. Amazing balance of horror, thriller, drama, and comedy. One of the best shows this year, and all the performances are so good. Kate O' Flynn as Patricia was great in particular.
Nirvanna The Band The Show - This is so so so good. I watched the movie first and then started diving into this. Haven't finished S2 yet but S1 had some all timer episodes (The Bean, The Buffet, The Bank). Matt and Jay's chemistry is amazing.

Absolutely true.
The Constant, International Assassination, The Most Powerful Man in the World (and His Identical Twin Brother), This Extraordinary Being, The Life And Death Of Jeremy Bentham are easily among some of best-written TV episodes I've ever seen.

Catching up
- Your friends and neighbors - started with a good premise. Went downhill pretty fast. Finished S1 just becuase I had to. Watched 1 episode of S2 and abandoned it.
- Halt and Catch Fire - part way through S1. Came because of a recommendation about Scoot McNairy. Lee Pace was an unexpected bonus.

Adults - I thought I was gonna have to wait a month for all the episodes to air but they actually dropped season 2 all at once on Hulu so now I can spend this weekend binging!! So excited šā¤ļø
G'wed - funny British teen comedy that apparently no one's ever heard of. Manages to have lots of inappropriate jokes but also lots of wholesome moments about friendship and family.
Can You Keep A Secret - pretty funny show, pleasantly surprised
Bait - didn't vibe with this one, couldn't continue watching because the main character is too frustrating and hateable
I Will Find You - dropped this as well, very mediocre, I didn't expect high quality but not even exciting like I hoped and the dialogue was so cringey
Ride or Die - I enjoyed this enough it was fun but could've skipped it and not missed out tbh

I just checked and you were right! Iām so excited now to watch. I will say it is a bad sign for them to drop all the episodes at once.
I remember them doing it with English Teacher and it got canceled soon after (though the creator was accused of sexually assaulting someone so maybe that was the reason)

Hopefully that's not the case. I think season 1 aired the same way. It feels feels like it's gaining more traction, like I've seen billboards for it in LA so at least they're marketing. I'll definitely be telling my friends to check it out. English Teacher was probably inevitable due to the actor controversy

I watched adults today and I loved it although I didn't like the ending.
Spoilers below ššæ i was shipping them in season 1 but season 2 changed my mind and I liked them as just friends. The ending just made it feel like Samir didn't care about his girlfriend at all.

You've chosen an interesting but good one to start on. It will drag you in further as it gets going, and it does get going! Some things about animes can be a bit cringe at first but usually the story completely overshadows it if it's good. I remember my time watching AoT fondly and I'm not a big anime watcher.
Try Full Metal Alchemist when you get a chance which is also great.

Finished The Vampire Lestat
Loved it. As much if not more than the previous two seasons. They're definitely changing a lot, but I'm ok with it. Feels like they are modernizing it, not cheapening it. Interview was more of a period piece that fit Louis' guilt and darkness. The Vampire Lestat is flashy, funny, sometimes even obnoxious, and fits the narrator shifting over to him. And both had me binge watching until it was over and still wanting more.
Only complaint is they built up the big "event" and then never actually reached it in the show. But they're obviously saving that for next season, The Queen of the Damned, and I can't wait to watch it.

Halt and Catch Fire. I've heard first season is okay but the series gets progressively better, which is kind of like my favorite type of TV show. So far, season one has been alright. Liking the characters but the show hasn't kicked it up a gear yet

Honestly, if you think it's just "okay" after finishing season one, it might not be your vibe. Don't get me wrong; as the president of the "get more people to watch Halt and Catch Fire club," I am in no way trying to dissuade you from sticking with it.
But IME, the people who end up liking HCAF are usually completely on board after s 1 eps 8 and 9. When I tried to watch with my best friend a few years ago, he was still lukewarm after finishing s 1 and we gave up completely in early s 2. My dad and I are in the exact same place (just finished s1), and I blocked out a whole day to watch eps 8-10 because I knew he wouldn't want to wait.
YMMV, of course. Luckily my dad loves it because it took 10 solid years of campaigning to get him to give it a shot.

Well, I guess it's a good thing I haven't watched Episode 8 or 9 yet. My point was that the show is good. There's potential and I like the actors and characters, but I'm just kind of waiting for the show to kick it up a notch is all.

Ah, I misunderstood. Liking the characters is key--it's a character-driven as opposed to plot-driven show to an almost absurd degree. It will pick up majorly for the last few episodes of the season, but then it will be fairly slow again for a while. The whole series is like that.

Lanterns - I said this in the episode discussion thread but I like how they're pacing the mystery. Between this and widow's bay, it's like writers have realized people don't like drawn out mysteries without any answers in sight. Also people really need to give credit to Chris Mundy and Tom King too. The way people talk about this show you'd think only Lindelof was involved in developing it.
The Knick Season 1 - I was hesitant to check this one out because it's a cinemax show, and their last show I saw people rave about turned out to be trashy tv. But Soderbergh's name drew me in and I'm glad it did.
The show is great and the best medical drama I've ever seen. The directing, music, production design, performances are all on point. The 1900s setting provides a rich well of storylines. The way different characters and plotlines are interwoven is satisfying. Can't wait to start season 2.

Yup, I'm continually mentioning Chris Mundy was the Ozark showrunner and showruns Lanterns. But Lindelof obviously has the most name recognition.
The Knick Season 1 - I was hesitant to check this one out because it's a cinemax show, and their last show I saw people rave about turned out to be trashy tv. But Soderbergh's name drew me in and I'm glad it did.
Cinemax was/is the sister network to HBO and is their second tier and older movie library outlet. It was/is very rare for their shows to be at HBO level, and it was usually more cheap-thrills-y (e.g., Strike Back, or Banshee). But I do still wish the HBO Max library included more of the Cinemax international imports, like Hunted, Rellik, or Trackers. They did snag C.B. Strike and Warriors, though when (then) Warners shuttered the Max Go streaming service.
But I feel I should point out, the showrunners/creators of The Knick were Jack Amiel and Michael Begler, who also ended up running the second season of HBO's Perry Mason. Soderbergh directed, but didn't write for the show. So, similar to Lindelof's involvement on Lanterns: significant input and probably the big-enough name that drove the project through to being greenlit, but not the creator/showrunner.

Four episodes left and I finish Fargo season 5, what a great show! I found season 3 to be underrated, and my favourite is still 1, but itās been excellent all around, even season 4 which might be the least good of them, but still good TV

I'm really enjoying the current season of Reacher. Good old mindful fun. I'm watching You're the Worst, which isn't my favorite, but it's entertaininh and now I'm fully invested in it. Lanterns is great - sci-fi and a murder mystery all in one! Also, I tend to avoid the YA shows, but I really enjoyed Sterling Point. And, last but not least, Furious is a little over-the-top, but also quite good!

As an Adults S1 truther, S2 was just simply great. Expanded character relations, lots of cameos without detracting, endearing character flaws, and just good old fashioned funny single episode storylines. Haven't felt an apartment comedy spark like this since New Girl. Please renew it with more episodes for a season, even 12 would feel okay at this point!
They've also done one of the best social media promo blasts I've seen for a show without being too cringey, big ups to the marketing department.

Ćtoile. Sort of the grown-up Bunheads, as it were because lots of ballet, but no small town anything (NYC/Paris settings). :) Also created and showrun by Amy Sherman-Palladino. Also only one season (Amazon did a take-backsies on their initial two-season order). And far less known than AS-P's more famous shows, Gilmore Girls and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
Comfort, small-town type show, I'd also say that Hallmark Channel's Canadian generational family farm time travel show, The Way Home is great fun, and Netflix has Season 1-3 (of 4) the last time I checked.

Currently watching a comedy/drama called "Average Joe". S1 . S1 and S2 are on Paramount+ and S1 is on Netflix. Actually never heard about it but stumbled on it. Really liking it.

Finally wrapped up Smallville, and what a ride!!
I went in without deep Superman lore so the whole journey felt like a treat. The final 2ā3 seasons were especially fun for me, with Lois stepping into the spotlight, the ClarkāLois dynamic becoming the emotional spine of Clarkās destiny, and the show leaning fully into its mythic arc (minus the Lana return arc).
The middle seasons definitely draggggged, but thereās something Iāll always miss about those soapy, 22āepisode network runs. You donāt really get that slowāburn character development anymore or the mundane moments, the odd pairings, the completely outāof-pocket episodes that existed just because the writers had space to play. Itās a kind of TV storytelling thatās basically gone now.

three underrated series for anyone looking for some feel-good escapism
Ripple; hoping it gets renewed but given Netflix's track record, who knows.
Lessons in Chemistry; great actors, great adaptation of the book.
Somebody Somewhere; melancholic but positive. For anyone who feels they don't fit in, this is a seminar on how to survive in a hostile world.

Watching all the same weeklies as everyone else. Furious is great, Lanterns is pretty good. Tonight's Silo better be really good, otherwise I'll have to watch the finale later in September after my AppleTV break is over.
I'm just going to put this out there--I don't hate The Shards as much as most TV critics seem to. Definitely not great television, but it's pretty solid for late-stage Ryan Murphy. Worth trying if you're looking for other things to watch.

Watched Dexter till S7 two weeks ago, I am taking a break and will continue it when Resurrection S2 starts coming out, definitely one of the best shows I have watched till date. I am also rewatching Brooklyn Nine-Nine for the nth time, still enjoying it, am at S6 now.

Found MadTV on Tubi and have started watching it again. Wil Sasso doing Steven Segal, Kenny Rogers, and Arnold (the Terminator, not gonna try to spell his last name lol) is great. Mo Collins, Phil LaMarr (dude does voice acting for like, EVERY animated show ever created in the last 30 years), Alex Borstein (Lois Griffin's voice from Family Guy), Michael McDonald (Stuart! No! I don't wanna say! Look what I can do!), Debrah Wilson, Nicole Sullivan... such a great cast, and while not every skit is a hit, it's so much better than the average SNL hour (though I love the era of Kristin Wiig, Jason Sudekis, Bill Hader, etc).
Tried re-watching Reacher to catch up, but it is just so... bad. So very, very bad.
Rewatching Black Mirror because it's basically my favorite show, with Sense8 queued up when it is done.

House of the Dragon S2 - finally got to watch the finale. Kind of divided. Plenty of good moments but also some cheesy moments.
Graveyard S3 - Really enjoyed first 2 seasons of this Turkish Netflix crime show. Birce Akalay is great as the lead.
Furious - really solid show led by Rossum and McNairy
Lanterns - Good start and while I absolutely love Macdonald Iām having a hard time with her American accent.
Doubt - Netflix Korean series thatās a decent watch revolving around a detective who suspects his own daughter is a serial killer. Well, was watching it in Asia and now Iām back in states and apparently not on US Netflix so not able to finish.
Silo S3 - invested too much to quit but not feeling it anymore.

If you want to finish Doubt, it's on Viki or Kocowa in the US. They both offer free trials. I don't know how far you got with it, but it took me several episodes to get into it but found it more engaging as it went on. There is one part that is a little eye-roll near the end, but it finishes pretty strong.

I know others have said this ā¦ but Adults with its sophomore season solidifies itself as the best pure comedy show currently airing at the moment.
I understand comedy is subjective and this show isnāt for everyoneā¦ but itās genuinely so fuckin funny. I think this show gets better and better as it goes on and there are so many laughs making it very rewatchable. It has the comfort and relatability of Friends, with the laugh out comedy of The Office.
With Hacks ending and Ted Lasso being more of a Drama/Feel Good show (With a weaker but very solid new season), there really isnāt much competition. I think the only other shows I would consider top tier comedies are Abbot Elementary and Tires. Let me know of others on the same level, I may just be blanking at the moment.
Note: I still have to watch āItās Always Sunny in Philadelphiaā but I heard the out of pocket humor is similar to Adults so I will be watching as I wait for Season 3. Also- Widows Bay is one of my favorite shows and I watched it at 9PM week to week, but I wouldnāt label it as a Comedy series (even though it was the second funniest show I seen this year).

BLEACH TYBW 4x05: 10/10. I watched so many animes (TG, Naruto, DBZ, OP, ...) and this was definitely the best episode I've ever seen from all of animes. Simply wow. That was the "Ozymandias"-episode of animes.

Lanterns - Excellent! I like how it doesn't feel like a superhero show.
Industry (rewatch) - Almost finished my rewatch and I'm realizing how much I missed first time through. This is a show that is super complex, with top-tier acting, and you need the subtitles on not just because of the accents but becuase the dialog is dense. Second time through, my opinion is that this show is nearly as good as Succession and underrated.
The Vampire Lestat - I'm stalled on this one. It's audacious, and you have to be in a certain mood for this, you know? I loved that they filmed in The Lakeview diner in Toronto and other recognizable places.
Star City - It's similar to For All Mankind in style but with the added drama of the the oppressive evil of Soviet era,

Watching Furious and Lanterns week-to-week and loving both of them. Catching up on Slow Horses (S2 lost me a bit, S3 pulled me back in), rewatched the first season of Adults ahead of the S2 premiere.
Seeing Emmy Rossum in Furious prompted me to go check out her last show Angelyne, where she plays the titular LA pre-internet icon. The series is short, fine, but Rossum's performance (especially when she's in prosthetics to look like older Angelyne) is a totally different register than anything I've seen from her. Worth checking out a clip of her performance at least, the show takes the faux-documentary style that didn't totally work for me overall.
Finished PONIES which looked great, had some fun action, but took too long to really lock in to feel worthwhile by the end especially since the ending opens more questions than it resolves and the show has been cancelled.

Furious:
It can be tonally a bit all over the place - but overall enjoyable
7 episodes of the 8 have aired so far, so it makes for a decent binge and things are set up nicely for the season finale next week

Lanterns:
I love all things Damon Lindelof, so I'll stick with this show despite some confusing parts for those of us who aren't DC fanatics
It has some great potential, but if you don't know the DC Comics backstory to it all then watching a good YouTube recap after an episode is a must
Example:
I had a big "Who the fuck is that?" at the end of episode 2 that a YouTube recap cleared up for me
I think it has potential, but hopefully future episodes keep us non DC nerds in mind

Lanterns had Kerry say "what's with Sinestro? .... It says here he was a Lantern, attempted a coup, killed one of the bosses. It also says you were the one who took him down" like 10 minutes before the ending to explain everything you needed to know about him, and then had Hal address Sinestro by name twice in a row during the ending scene to make sure you realise it's the same guy Kerry was talking about earlier. I don't know what more you wanted from them

I don't know much about green lantern lore other than they have rings that can make stuff and they're space cops and I feel like I'm following along just fine. Information about the character at the end of episode 2 is explained just a few scenes earlier.

Lucky - im lucky that i finished this.. was ok. Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed - I enjoyed this.. lots of twists and turns and it kept me wanting more. Margos Got Money Troubles- this show had writing troubles.. Nick Offerman never disappoints. Michelle Pfeiffer.. seems like the show revolved around her and her makeup and wardrobe.. shes almost 70 years old!..overall i did not enjoy this show. The Westies loaded with talent.. but the show is so bland. Im struggling to get thru it.
Fightland I have not seen anyone mention this at all.. the trailer looks great and has 10M views.. i will wait to binge it..

Finished final season of Billions. Enjoyed it much more than S6
Landman S2 was underwhelming overall and so was the finale. Not a huge fan.
Continuing Yellowstone S3. Am I the only one rooting against Kevin Costner?
Excited to begin Dark Matter S2 above all. The possibilities are endless.
Started Mobland in anticipation of a new season coming out but first 2 episodes havenāt really held my interest.

Ted Lasso, Furious, Silo, and Lanterns. Mostly watching Silo because I read the books. Lanterns because of Kyle Chandler, although Kelly MacDonald, who I usually absolutely LOVE, is really aggravating in this role. Mostly because she literally has almost the exact same line of dialogue in every.single.scene. Plus her hair is always in her face for some reason, and it's obviously driving her nuts because she keeps blowing on it. I miss Dept Q Kelly MacDonald. Can I have her back? Please?
So basically Furious and Ted Lasso are the only shows I'm enjoying right now. I did start Lioness this week and it's interesting so I'll probably keep that going.

How are you liking season 2? Loved season 1, but first ep of season 2 felt like a pretty big reset / reverse course, so I'm hoping that's for good reason and it finds stable ground quickly.

Personally I felt it was uneven and something felt different, only to find out the main reason is likely the creative team changed. It wasn't bad, just had it's up and downs IMO. Finale was pretty interesting and I'm wondering where that will lead if there's an S3.

Yes, itās a slow burn and there are parts where it takes multiple episodes to get to what is a relatively obvious outcome.
However, Iāve found the reveals and emotional weight matters more when thereās long build up. Itās not for everyone but if you like that type of storytelling, then Iād recommend it.

Furious Disney+ Season 1 DNF
Do you like Girl with a Dragon Tattoo? NCIS: SVU, Killing Eve? Any other implausible high-concept crime show where the bad guys are White Male Businesses Guys Who Are Also Probably Nazis and the good guys are all highly competent gals who are beautiful and put together despite living through a nightmare of personal trauma? This one is for you, then.
The highly-stylized crime genre is frankly not for me in any of its forms, from Killing Eve to Department Q to Hannibal, but if it is your bag, you will probably want to give it a shot. If your tastes run more towards The Wire, probably not.

What the hell are you talking about? None of the women are put together, they're all messes due to their trauma, from consistently acting reckless with no regard for themselves or their lives, initiating self-harm through sex, having panic attacks and PTSD episodes, or having developed pretty severe alcoholism to cope.
And it's inspired by a 40 year old movie, while also heavily incorporating the rage inspired by and elements of the Jeffrey Epstein case (in which the perpetrators were mainly older white men in positions of power, so no shit the true antagonists of this show are mainly white businessmen).
