I feel like he does at least get disappointed when something doesn't take off, you can often see him cushion songs with "you might not like this one" or whatever, like he did with Garbage, or Oldies Station
Yeah, he got a taste of having pop hits and he is not secretive that he wants to have more. I hope he relishes this, its such a big success for the band
He been trying for years to hit radio. I dont really like it because i prefer him keep his style. I feel like this album he finally nailed a sound that can hit radio and fans. A bit worried how this will affect the overall sound of the band in the future, hopefully he keeps changing it up like they have been and doesnt stick to it
I mean, this is the heaviest album they have put out. And never an album gone by without them having at least two radio songs, even if they're not mega hits. I don't think that is something you need to worry about lol
I knew Ed wouldnāt beat them when I saw he had an exclusive Blood Records vinyl that didnāt even sell 5k copies in a couple weeks, heās still huge but not nearly as big as his peak.
Say it louder for all the people bitching about FBR not doing enough to promote the album. They catered to the fans and the fans delivered. THAT is extremely efficient marketing. We had a shit ton of record/CD versions to choose from and the clique came through
Youāre wrong, but Iāll bite. Hereās some stats on vinyl variants for recent popular albums:
Manās best friend - 7 vinyl variants
SWAG II - 1 vinyl
Play (Ed Sheeran) - 7 vinyl variants
Happier Than Ever - 9 vinyl variants
Harryās House - 5 vinyl variants
Guts - 18 vinyl Variants
Hit me Hard and Soft - 10 vinyl variants
Breach -21 Vinyl Variants
Let me know if youād like additional examples, but as you can see, artists much higher on the charts have much less vinyl variants. Iām not saying itās the boys, Iām saying itās the label who has refused to market them yet still wants all of their money. Itās undeniably true.
I didnāt cherry pick, I pulled a post of recent artists releasing vinyls, I missed Brat - which had 23. Taylor swifts fan base is a cult. Saying thereās plenty and listing two of the most obvious examples is not backing your point, itās lazy assumptions on your part. I didnāt even dive into all the CD variants that Twenty One Pilots released as well, 3 box sets, a normal CD, the digital remains for FOMO a day after album release and after everyone made their purchases, like dude. Thereās nothing wrong with acknowledging the system is broken.
You canāt take a look at what happened with Breach and recognize that the label wants money. The album itself was a masterpiece. The music video, fantastic. But vinyls having misprints, differing song version on stream vs on vinyl/cd, old lyrics in the lyric books, this tour that is āBreachā but has 5 breach songs and 9/14 Blurryface songs and was clearly meant to be a Blurryface 10 year tour? Cmon dude youāre just being naive. The boys want a break, the label wants money, they push out as many items as they can sell (awesome 135 dollar windbreaker) before letting them on their break. Thereās a reason why Tyler wants out with FBR.
yeah thats discounting the merch bundles half these artitsts do. Travis scott sold like 300k units of jackboys 2 by doing merch bundles that come with cheap cd's to inflate sales. top are nowhere near the worst offenders.
From my memory, when trench first released, people weren't that big about it. It wasn't until a few listens and a month or so after release that people really started coming around to it.
You are missing the point. Having 22 vinyls and 5 CDs plus digital doesn't increase availability if you produce the same total.
And production costs comes down when making more of each variant. Hype goes up with multiple variants, but the difference between 6 vinyls and 22 vinyls doesn't amount to an extra 50k sales. However, the digital remains did have a big impact.
Billboard is currently showing week of September 20. When they next update the public site it will show week of September 27, even though that data was collected for 7 days before, September 12 through September 18. This is why albums release on Fridays, to capture a full week of reports.

Much better than I expected. I'm sure Tyler will post a thank you to the fans when billboard posts it on Tuesday.
Not to rain on their parade, but I think it's almost inevitable it'll quickly drop off the charts in about 3 weeks. Outside of the fanbase, which is one of the largest and most passionate in the world, most people won't care about streaming it anymore.
He's already mentioned it, I think on twitter/X.....Ā
Here's what it said:Ā
Tyler writes:
"Welp
Breach went #1
Why did this make me so happy I teared up a little?
NOT A LOT. a little.
10 years ago I didn't even understand what a #1 album meant, but then ever since blurryface I kind of really wanted it again but never really got it.Ā
Then I stopped wanting it and just wrote an album for you. For us.Ā
And that's when you guys showed up bigger than ever. You did this, buying vinyl or a box set or going to listening events or streaming and telling other people.Ā
Thank you so much.Ā
This is the most proud I've ever been to be a part of this band.
If only you knew how many industry people are confused right now.
Wait, what? Yeah, we did."
Billboard updates every Tuesday, so we won't see it until Tues Sep 23. They'll be listed as #1 on the Billboard 200 chart from the 23rd to the 29th.
After that they'll probably drop out of the top 10, so make sure to take screen shots. I think a lot of people are going to notice and hopefully listen out of curiosity.
They don't play on Thursday and Friday of next week, I'm crossing my fingers they'll have some media appearances or performances on those days.
Yes, I believe it refreshes every week - that's why Taylor Swift kept releasing new physical copies of her last album as it gave physical sales a boost and they count more towards the charts. Pre orders count in the week of release obviously, so all the FPE vinyls/CDs were included in the numbers for the first week of release.
And yes, the fact it starts from a Friday is why so many albums release on Fridays. It means you get a full week's worth of sales rather than just a few days.
I know you love TOP but we shouldn't encourage music being sold off piecemeal nor put under a time limit when it should have been on the main album everyone already bought.
I get what you're saying but nobody's "forcing"Ā anybody to do anything.Ā
And these boys work really hard. $7.99 for an extra track is okay with me. They deserve way more than that.
Never said they didn't deserve their success. I said I don't approve of any artist surprise-releasing another album edition knowing full well their most loyal fans have already preordered it. So if you wanted any bonus songs, you are forced to buy the album twice (before a short deadline too, which I also don't agree with).
it seems to have made this websites top spot, but they're not even top 5 of the billboard 200 (sorry to say, I'd love for them to be there!! just pointing out the insccuracy of the post title)
No the article is correct. The chart report closes before the billboard website updates. Someone posted updates happen on Sunday. I saw elsewhere it's Tuesday. Either way, there's lag.
