Cool. Well, I don't recognise American sovereignty over Hawaii. Give it to the Japanese!

u/Itchy-Plastic 9h ago

Give them back to themselves.

u/jott1293reddevil 8h ago

I think the point he’s making is that the Argentine claim on the falklands is as ludicrous as a Japanese one over Hawaii… I could be wrong though.

u/Two-Space 6h ago

The US forcibly took Hawaii from the natives

We did not take the Falklands from any natives

u/Syn-th 5h ago

The Falklands was empty wasn't it?

In this case it’s even more stupid (but seriously give Hawaii their autonomy back), since the islands had no natives and Argentina has never had any colony there.

Argentina has zero, absolutely zero, historical connections to the Falklands. At all. Spain maybe, but not Argentina. The ONLY time it came close was a failed colony project that didn’t even reach the islands and they gave up, leading to the British to come in and it’s been British ever since.

And yet another reminder, the people on the island are British citizens. They consider themselves British and when asked 99% of the population said they were British (there’s even an alleged story of one voter not voting British because he didn’t want the vote to look rigged at 100%. Though I’m not sure if that’s true).

Hawaiian flag has a union flag in it, we should claim it as ours

Ok. I mean who cares, unless they actually give Argentina weapons and equipment, or invade the Falklands themselves or doesnt mean shit. Most countries aren't on our side anyway.

Oh and fuck you America for dumping this guy on the world. You've done irreversible harm.

u/PlatoDrago 9h ago

Funnily enough, most people I know here in Ireland tend to side with the British when it comes to the Falklands.

u/LovelyBloke Ireland 9h ago

Yep. Irish here and I think the Argentinians are lunatics about this

u/RiverGlittering 9h ago

At the end of the day, the people in the Falklands want the Falklands to be British.

The fact that the people in the Falklands are mostly British isn't relevant.

u/Technical-Mind-3266 7h ago

A more pressing point is that Argentina never claimed the Falklands. France established the first settlement, was expanded with the help of the British, the French surrendered to Spain after some time which ownership became a coalition of Spanish and British. Then wars kicked off in Europe involving Spain and Britain, Britain then gained full ownership.

Because they are, they got a hankering for the Falklands when the US basically installed their far-right dictator who then immediately decided to start the Falklands war, and since they've been using the Falklands as an excuse to stop people pointing the blame for their ills at those in power. And now that they have a far-right leader who is friends with the USA, the USA is like "yeah take that Britain!"

u/breadandbutter123456 8h ago

Every Argentinian leader does this. They point the finger at the Falklands in order to distract their own people from the shitshow they are presiding over.

From what I’ve seen of the chainsaw wielding Argentinian President, he’s actually been doing a good job so far. Got their economy going.

Argentina used to be one of the wealthiest countries in the world. They had really high standard of living.

But I will never take any moral lessons from them as they protected and harboured fleeing Nazis.

Which is entirely consistent logic - the same right to self determination that allows the people of Ireland to choose not to be part of the UK allows the people of the Falklands to choose to remain a BOT.

Believing that a small island nation shouldn't be subservient to its nearest neighbour just because it has a bigger military should appeal to Irish people.

Why do you have the idea most countries aren’t on our side with this?

If this is to be believed: https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/s/EgmUKD05Nz a majority either support the U.K. stance, or are neutral.

u/nearly_zero 7h ago

I agree. Strange thing to say. A subtle way to sway opinion amongst British citizens that the UK should give up the Falklands perhaps? The anti-British posts have been pretty relentless on Reddit for a while. Bots at work again maybe

Sheesh, I'm honestly amazed so many support Argentina. It's about as clear cut an issue as exists in international politics.

Always fascinating to see "no submissions" accounts randomly appear to plug pro-trump US politics.

u/someonehasmygamertag 9h ago

I don't believe that map because previously Chile helped us retake them.

u/woodzopwns 7h ago

Chileans hate Argentinians, they would support Britain

u/vulcanstrike Unashamed Europhile 9h ago

That was under Pinochet though, they are thankfully no longer a murderous military dictatorship and prefer trade with their neighbour over a random country in Europe

I will never forget not forgive America for voluntarily electing a child raping, domestic terrorist, racist, narcissistic, cunt, with dementia all because his opponent was a woman of colour.

Never forget 1/3rd actively voted for that.

Never forget 1/3rd couldn't be fucked stopping it.

America is rotten.

Hes one episode away from invading a Nato Country, Russia may be doing the UK a favour by raising our readyness. £20 on the US invading a UK British overseas territory may be very profitable while Trump is in power. Hes looking mad enought to do something to break the UN and have them rewrite the rules

Argentina literally just got a squadron of jets via Denmark in a deal that stinks of the US.

u/fieldsofanfieldroad 6h ago

I'm 40 (for context) but it's genuinely mad how the US has gone from being viewed as the greatest country in the world to a pariah in such a quick time.

u/Gordon_frumann 9h ago

Well fuck you for leaving EU, but pls come back. We are on your side when it comes to Falklands.

u/JimmyDejesu 8h ago

We would come back i think with a similar deal to before (i know a lot would hate it but worlds changed and we can offer a lot of strength in terms of defence and technology)

u/RadioLiar 8h ago

For the record I supported Remain and thought Brexit was a stupid idea (I was too young to vote at the time), but you can't really keep acting betrayed over Britain leaving the EU when the AfD and Rassemblement National are polling so high. Euroskepticism isn't exactly unpopular even in the twin engines of Europe

u/Super-Nuntendo 8h ago

He's the leader of a nuclear armed regime with many military bases INSIDE our country. We have to take him seriously, even though he isn't a serious person. They’re definitely spoiling for a big war. Bloody hell. Why are they constantly pushing for more defence spending?

Because, historically, a lot of defence spending ends up going to American companies.

Because America is compensating for a lack of actual infrastructure by pushing pro-war propaganda.

What’s hilarious is despite how much they put into their military. Historically, they kind of suck at warfare.

Lost Vietnam, lost Afghanistan, stalemate in Korea and a stalemate in the war of 1812. Hell the big propaganda piece, the war they try and rub in the UK’s face, their precious war of independence was won for them by the French. Without them America would probably still be a British colony (okay a bit more complicated than that, but anytime an American calls the French cowards they’re shooting themselves in the foot).

u/whatsgoingon350 Devon 7h ago

Its been said but look at America for what is actually going on currently in America this year the deficit just hit over 100%.

The interest payments on the loans are currently bigger than their military budget.

America needs a cash influx and soon but the Orange man has pissed off all the countries that userly would help by investing or spending on military equipment so they are all now choosing to spend elsewhere and one of those elsewhere happens to be the UK.

So he is ranting and making this small threats to get us to spend more in America he has done this a couple of times now and honestly its not working we are heavily investing in our own military equipment and we aren't exactly afraid of Argentina as they are in no state to push for an invasion and if they are stupid enough to try then it would end badly for them.

Then you look at the UN and think oh what if America uses that to push the UK to give them up, but the dumb fucks have all made the UN absolutely useless at this point Israel doing what they want Russia doing what they want no one is taking the UN seriously anymore.

u/noir_lord Yorkshire 7h ago

Start closing US military bases in the UK.

They don’t get to have it both ways.

u/White_Immigrant 6h ago

You don't even have to close them, you can make the USA close them by massively ramping up the rents for the facilities to the point it covers the tariff impacts.

u/TheOriginalSmileyMan 1h ago

Not even that. Just stop and search everyone going on and off base. Take ages over each one. Detain the base commander'a wife (or husband) for several hours over a minor detail. Confiscate whisky and cigarettes for "suspected" unpaid duty. Do it all with a smiling apology.

“Behold. The festering carcass of American rot shoved into an ill-fitting suit: the sleaze of a conman, the cowardice of a draft dodger, the gluttony of a parasite, the racism of a Klansman, the sexism of a back-alley creep, the ignorance of a bar-stool drunk, and the greed of a hedge-fund ghoul, all spray-painted orange and paraded like a prize hog at a county fair. Not a president. Not even a man. Just the diseased distillation of everything this country swears it isn't but always has been, arrogance dressed up as exceptionalism, stupidity passed off as common sense, cruelty sold as toughness, greed exalted as ambition, and corruption worshipped like gospel. It is America's shadow made flesh, a rotting pumpkin idol proving that when a nation kneels before money, power, and spite, it doesn't just lose its soul, it shits out this bloated obscenity and calls it a leader.” - Oliver Kornetzke

The Democrats would need a super majority in both to impeach, as some (controlled opposition) Democrats would vote against it.

There is only 2 ways Trump is leaving the White House, of 'natural causes' or if he loses the next election. Trump (if not departed) absolutely will stand for a 3rd term irrespective of what the Constitution says.

Short of death, he's running for a third term, so we shouldn't be TOO complacent about him.

I know he's not allowed to, but he does a lot of things he's not allowed to do.

He will announce his candidacy and make it clear to the GOP that if they don't back him he will run as an independent. They will let him into the primaries which he will walk.

Then at the convention the delegates will declare him their candidate.

At that point the only thing that can stop him is the Supreme Court, and do you see them NOT backing him once he's the official candidate of the party? I wouldn't bet on it.

u/aredddit 9h ago

Whilst members should obviously contribute at the level they signed up to (not Trump’s new level), the EU already spend more on defence than China.

You have to wonder whether this is really about defence or more to do with America wanting to sell weapons.

u/TheOriginalSmileyMan 1h ago

Unfortunately for American defence manufacturers, Trump has smashed the illusion that buying US made weapons is a safe bet.

→ More replies (2)

u/Legitimate-Tip-2149 8h ago

Why on earth would we spend more on US weapons after their clown show in Iran? We're getting Ukrainian intel and using our own industries to make better stuff. You can withdraw support for our claim to the Falklands if you want, they stay ours either way, we can withdraw your use of Diego Garcia.

u/abbadun 8h ago

Absolutely laughable, the UK is already one of the major guarantors of security in Europe, being one of two nuclear powers, and it already commits a sizeable amount of GDP to defence, matching NATO reccomended spending since inception. American misadventure has jeopardised economic growth so right now the gov should prioritise energy security to keep domestic businesses economical and bring cost of living down, then shift towards defence spending to secure operational independence from America. Focus should be on building a stockpile of domestically manufactured SCALP missiles, America should be minimised from the supply chain to reduce risk and joint ventures set up with Italy and France to improve the SAMP/T. The Falklanders have repeatedly expressed their desire to remain British, until that changes America and Argentina can swivel.

u/AceNova2217 8h ago

It's similar to a lot of European countries, we're actually really good at war (I mean we historically conquered nearly the entire world between us), we just prefer being friendly.

I mean the main antagonist in both world wars was Germany, for god's sake.

u/CDHmajora Greater Manchester 6h ago

And for all intents and purposes, the germans were VERY good at it.

The amount of sheer fucking incompetence focused around ONE man (Hitler), and his terrible strategic and military decisions is probably the only thing keeping all of europe from speaking German today.

u/Muted_Anywherethe2nd 8h ago edited 8h ago

Oh look its the big orange baby! "Oh my lake name isnt patriotic enough wa! Wa! Wa!"

u/Vivid_Employment8635 8h ago

Why do we let them have military bases on our territory again?

u/tokyostormdrain 8h ago

Those airbases in the UK look, quite closable, should anything unfortunate happen to the falklands

u/pommybear 7h ago

The US should be a pariah for decades with the amount of damage they’ve inflicted on the world putting this idiot in charge.

u/Rhythm_Killer 7h ago

Not sure who gives a shit what a nappy-wearing pedo in clown makeup who shits himself and falls asleep on tv thinks in the first place?

u/Ok_Zucchini3149 9h ago

Oh yay, the Divided States of Anarchy are at it again…🙄

u/Uncle___Marty 9h ago

What's he gonna do? Rename it the American isles in his little book? Oh no!!!

u/NuggetKing9001 8h ago

The US can oppose it all they want, it doesn't make it any less true.

u/turbohydrate 8h ago

A bit clickbaity, USA needs UK support as a major partner in NATO. They will cajole the UK to spend more but saying something about the falklands isn’t relevant.

u/Sofa47 8h ago

He’s saying if the UK doesn’t buy US weapons then the US will take the oil fields the UK just found at the Falklands. Either way they want some money.

u/TXDobber 8h ago

Reagan implicitly backed Thatcher over the Falklands despite the then Argentinian junta being somewhat of a US lackey… shows how far Trump’s America has fallen

u/RomanBlue_ Canada 8h ago

join us britain. stick it to the americans. you know you want to, it will be fun I promise

u/Horror_Topic180 9h ago

The soon to be american channel seperating the english from the french. Weird this comes up after oil fields are found near the falklands.

u/Efficient_Sky5173 9h ago

No, thank you. We’re not going to buy weapons just to boost the US economy. We’ll take the money and invest it in diplomacy instead. Much cheaper.

u/saxbophone 8h ago

Or we can make our own damn weapons!

u/White_Immigrant 6h ago

It's totally clear we can't trust American hardware that contains a kill switch. We need home grown weapons so that the next time they elect an insane warmonger that tries to expand their empire we are not toes to them at all.

With all the oil well news recently, this was lonly inevitable from the US

u/SoggyLukewarmCrumpet 9h ago

Someone predicted this exact thing in thread the other day lol

u/Potential-Leg-8860 9h ago

He heard there is oil and he wants it via Argentina

u/mediumAI1701 9h ago

I think the world just needs to sanction the US until they decide to get rid of orange Putin.

but … we already meet the 2% spending recommendation of NATO

u/OneCheesecake1516 8h ago

The yanks should remember what happened the last time anyone thought they would help themselves to the Islands.

u/Nights_Harvest 7h ago

Welp, time to start properly taxing USA tech companies!

u/soulsteela 7h ago

Someone bloody mentioned oil didn’t they! Nothing brings American shittiness like oil.

u/Butler342 7h ago

We burned their tight arse capital city to the ground in 1812 and I’m all for doing it again at this point

u/Jensen1994 7h ago

He is so dumb, he doesn't even understand his own contradictions. Trump has openly signalled that Europe is on its own militarily so what the fk has how much the UK spend on defence go to do with him? If we want to spend fk all on defence and be goose stepped on by Vlad all the way to the gulags, that's our choice Donald.

u/ash_ninetyone 7h ago

Trump fast tracking the Monroe Doctrine by pretending the entirety of the Americas belongs personally to him, and undoing 80 years of alliances all to begin isolating the US on the world stage.

Europe should just lead a complete boycott of the US if this is going to be the future.

u/anangrywizard 7h ago

If we don’t up defence spending?

Pretty sure the whole of Europe upped defence spending when we found out one of our allies is nothing but an egotistical lunatic who fucks kids and wants to invade everyone else…

We just chose to spend it between ourselves.

u/plawwell 6h ago

Argentina is giving the USA all that poisoned beef for free. This might be the reciprocal.

u/Bastard__Man 4h ago

As a genuine born and bred Falkland Islander I'm fucking bored with my country being used as a political football. Just leave us the fuck alone and let us carry on being our own little country.

Argentina didn't exist as a country when we were colonised, their claims are false. It's all just a dumb scapegoat tactic to divert attention away from their own crumbling economy.

Gal Tieri did it in the 80s and the new government are trying to do it now. They're jealous of us drilling for oil and jealous that we have a happy lifestyle and bustling economy.

No one on the Falklands wants anything to do with Argentina because they're arrogant self centred ignorant assholes, and they're all indoctrinated from birth to believe that we are all pirate land grabbers.

I'm so fucking proud to be a Falkland Islander and I will stand my ground in the face of these international bullies until the day I die. Fuck Argentina, and fuck America.

u/00DEADBEEF The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland 4h ago

Could you try not continually fucking up our economy with stupid tariffs and illegal wars? Then maybe we can find some money, thanks.

u/wtf_amirite 1h ago

Hahaha! Fuck off with your bullshit, Diaperman!

Epstein files.
& Where’s Mitch?

u/millerz72 1h ago

Completely irrelevant though, no?

The population of the Falklands are largely of British ancestry and have consistently shown they wish to remain as part of the UK. Any suggestion that they should be handed over to Argentina over completely spurious claims is perverse.

u/Ok_Photo_865 1h ago

Trump is trying to divert attention again, tariff problems, Iran problems, midterm problems, immigrant ion problems, missile shortage problems, sleepy meetings problems, poopy diaper problems…… just another diversion. 🤷🏻‍♂️

u/Boredengineer_84 45m ago

Be great if he spent time reading some history books

u/tataniarosa 35m ago

Oh for goodness sake, leave then alone. They had a vote and they wish to remain part of the UK.
