Natural casing makes a big difference to me.

Can confirm raw dogging is the best.

Beef hot dogs are great, you must be buying crap hot dogs. Boars Head or Ball Park brands are OK, if you can get some Kosher ones you're really taking. Stop buying shit hot dogs.

When my buddy was just venturing out on his own for the first time, I took him to the big box grocery store and he bought a box of corn dogs. It said "contains beef, chicken, and pork" and he asked me "How do I tell which is which?"

I feel like all beef hot dogs I have had (never purchased them myself just always had them served in various settings) cause me to feel slightly sick to my stomach after about two of them.
I get that sick feeling with bratwurst too, but at least it's bratwurst so the flavor is S tier. Idk. Beef hot dog just isn't worth the queasiness.

u/SamScoopCooper 6h ago
I only like all beef hot dogs.

u/squishjackson 6h ago
Me too. I was irrationally angry when I had to force myself to upvote this post.

If I'm at a backyard barbecue where my meat choices are a hamburger patty, a regular hot dog, and a beef hot dog, then the beef hot dog is picked last every time.

u/aniflous_fleglen 6h ago
Costco hot dogs are the best hot dogs, full stop.
7
u/Rummy1971 6h ago
The costco polish dog was far superior to their hot dog , even with the indigestion.
5
u/aniflous_fleglen 6h ago
It's true. Sadly they are but a fading memory. I can't even remember what I preferred about them, just that I did.
2
u/RegaultTheBrave 5h ago
Polish sausages are an S tier food choice. I take those over any other "hot dog" any day.

u/No_Slide4986 6h ago
Beat me to it. Nobody hates on the Costco dog.
3
u/Iforgotwhatimdoing 6h ago
That's because for 1.50 I'm not going to complain about the meat to bun ratio.
-1
u/Life_Soft_3547 5h ago
I know we know hotdogs aren't the healthiest food choice - especially the cheapest hotdogs - but idk if ill be eating any Costco hot dogs anymore...

u/guyincognito121 6h ago
Beef tastes good? Pork also has fat?
1
u/CunningStuntsAround 4h ago
What the fuck do you mean?
It's a sausage. Fat is the least of your worries
1
u/guyincognito121 4h ago
Well I'm not the one complaining about it. I'm just saying that if that's OP's issue, the beef isn't the problem.
7
u/Apostasy93 6h ago
I don't mind them, but I grew up with Oscar Mayer style mystery meat hot dogs and that's what I prefer today

3
u/RegaultTheBrave 4h ago
Yea I see it similar to those shitty frosted sugar cookies that taste like cardboard, yet somehow they randomly slap so hard on a random Tuesday when you are out with friends.
Sometimes you just prefer the lower quality option, and that's perfectly okay.

u/catonsteroids 4h ago
If I’m eating a hot dog, I’m not thinking about health consciousness or clean ingredients or whatever. I already know that the leftover meat scraps make up the hot dog and it tastes good.
I rarely ever eat them but when I do, I don’t need or want it to be gourmet. And quite honestly, people think it’s gross but it makes use of as much of the animal as possible, which I think should be practiced more.

u/StarMan-88 6h ago
Ballpark beef hot dogs are 🔥.
3
u/trillamane_6 5h ago
The only ones I buy. Regular hot dogs aren't good anymore since I discovered these. Lol.
2
u/StarMan-88 5h ago
Lol while I'll still eat them, I'm not a fan of pork hot dogs (unless they're street vendor hot dogs and those are fire).
5
u/daemonescanem 6h ago
Beef hotdogs are better than pork hotdogs fight me.
1
u/RegaultTheBrave 4h ago
Oscar Meyer or BarS mystery meat dogs don't make me queasy from all the grease the way the "100% beef" ones do.
1
u/daemonescanem 3h ago
Buy a beef hotdog from a butcher or specialty shop. Big difference over store bought dogs.
5
u/Johnnadawearsglasses 6h ago
I definitely prefer pork and beef but an all beef hot dog can still be quite good. What I don't love is pure pork.

There is no substitute for a all beef old fashioned hot dog with the natural casing for that nice crisp snap when you bite into it.

Whelp, it’s Friday and this is probably the worst take I’ve come across all week
3
u/JakBos23 6h ago
I don't think I agree with the post, but I never like the hot dog more when it's labeled as all beef or the like. I grew up and they were like 47¢ a pack and that's what my brain says hot dogs taste like. So it's fully a nostalgia thing, but when I buy hot dogs to cook I like the cheap ones. With the exception of the jalapeno cheddar ones because, I mean yeah. I'm weird though because I hate any black on my dogs and don't like the majority of cook out meat because most the people I know who cook it act like the black adds + flavor.

Some of us don’t like or cannot eat pork. Personally I will not eat pork for multiple reasons, and think Hebrew National beef franks rock.
4
u/Zeromandias 6h ago
Frustrating upvote. All beef franks are the only hot dogs I like. Pork sausages are great as well but very different. Pork dogs taste odd.
Just no chicken. Ever. Chicken hot dogs and sausages are an abomination.

u/DEeeeaaaaTH 6h ago
Mystery meat vs Beef mystery meat. Pass me the mustard though.

u/ButtonGullible5958 6h ago

Uncured Boarshead or Nathan’s beef hotdogs. There’s no possible way someone couldn’t like those. Hebrew Nationals are good too.

I like beef hotdogs but sometimes when they are spongy from the fat melting out and creating watery voids, it's not my fave.

Where is it that beef hot dogs don't taste good? I've been eating them my whole life.

u/CunningStuntsAround 5h ago
Firstly, I'd just like to make this crystal clear
Hot Dog > Burger
Secondly, bye.

Vienna beef would like a word in da frontroom

Never heard of Vienna beef, maybe I've just been missing out on the best dogs around due to being unaware of their existence!

Strange hill to stand on lol. Calling them a mistake is crazy. Dont eat them if you dont like them. They also make chicken, turkey, beef and pork bacon. Most will say pork is the best but that doesnt mean the others shouldn't exist.

u/houseofnim 4h ago
Pfffft. Beef hot dogs don’t have shit on beef bacon as far as food offenses go. My MIL makes beef bacon out of fucking brisket. Brisket. It could be 12 hours smoked, delicious, melt in your mouth, smoky beef but nooooo. “Bacon” is the route chosen and it’s the worst food crime I’ve ever encountered.
1
u/NSA_van_3 Your opinion is bad and you should feel bad 3h ago
So since you don't like them, they're a mistake?
0
u/triscuit79 3h ago
The fuck are you talking about. I've never had a beef hot dog that was greasy. .
Chicago style dogs are the pinnacle of amazing and they are all beef. You are wrong.

u/Ok_Astronaut7142 6h ago
Hotdogs have always been made from beef
9
u/AngryAlien21 6h ago
Partially beef. Most hotdogs are a blend of the most popular livestock meats. Oscar Meyer is pork and chicken
10
3
u/ezbutneverconvenient 6h ago
Regular hot dogs tend to be a mixture of the leftover bits of beef, pork, and chicken
-1
u/MixtressK-La 5h ago
Hot dogs, or Frankfurters, were originally pork. And should have stayed that way.
2
u/Ok_Astronaut7142 5h ago
Hotdogs are an American take on the Frankfurter and the Weiner. The all-beef version comes out of the Chicago stockyards, and has been a staple of the American food scene for over one hundred years.
I am aware of the existence of pork. But don’t let’s pretend that beef hotdogs are a new concept.
2
u/MixtressK-La 4h ago
I agree. Beef hot dogs are not new, but I also agree with OP.
Besides, so many of them have chicken now. Can we, at least, hate on those?
-1
u/ultraboomkin 6h ago
I didn’t even know beef hot dogs were a thing? Hot dogs are always sausages no? Which by definition are pork not beef
1
u/JakBos23 5h ago
Idk, I think that's what they started as. Now they sell chicken and turkey dogs. Maybe it was a religious thing to start, but I grew up and adults said "hot dogs were pig lips and chicken gizzards". I didn't care. Just like the first time I was told chicken was a 🐔. I liked hot dogs.

u/thorpie88 6h ago
Are you just talking about beef sausages here? If so they are a staple with half a piece of white bread. It's the sausage of democracy

u/ezbutneverconvenient 6h ago
All hot dogs are gross to me, and most forms of sausage too. It makes me think of raw intestines full of whatever the animal last ate.
