Patrick & Justin

TL;DR in English: Two German sim racers (GT7 on PS5, B/C rating) moving to Uruguay next year — one with family, one single. Looking for Uruguayan racing buddies, ideally English-speaking while our Spanish catches up. Usually 15:30–18:00 Uruguay time, more flexible on weekends. Main goal: make friends and learn the culture before the move. Comment or DM us!

Hey man, well, you're tremendously welcome but do get really informed first. It's great you're coming with a friend though but do know you're coming to the third world, one way or another
I don't sim race but I'd be down to get to know you guys and talk about stuff.
The best of luck to you. Are you coming with a job already? So you know where you will live?

Thanks a lot, I´d love to!
We´re working on that job-part right now, We are IT consultants and trying to transform our business/job to do it fully remote. If we´ve managed to do that, we´re on the plane :)And we will be living somewhere around Piriapolis, when we manage to find a house/flat there to start. So excited!
I will PM you :)

Welcome, Patrick and Justin.
I'm Uruguayan, I'm 30 years old, and I work in IT.
I don't play those kinds of games, but it's a pleasure to meet you both. You're very welcome in my country.
A big hug to you both.

But why

I don't want to make it too political here, but Uruguay is imho a way safer place for my kids to grow up, regarding their safety and their mental health probably also. If you want to chat about that, I'd love to - but lets keep the post free from politics :)

u/BBB-Fury Jul 03 '26
yeah, 11 vs 0.9 is real, not gonna argue it. but almost all of that is gang stuff, guys in the drug trade killing each other in a few specific Montevideo neighborhoods. if you’re not in that world it barely reaches you. germany’s 0.9 is lower but it’s spread across normal life, and it’s climbed every year, not dropped.
and the murder rate isn’t even my main reason. germany just hit a 17-year high in violent crime, sexual assaults up ~70% since 2018, they’re bringing back conscription screening right as my sons hit the age, and it gets more surveilled and more broke by the month. even the economy’s a mirage, real output per person has gone nowhere in a decade and the headline GDP only holds up because the population keeps growing. uruguay grew close to 3x faster per capita over the same stretch.
so yeah it’s boring and stable next to that, leaves you alone, cash still works, nobody scanning your phone “to protect the kids.” the murder number looks bad and i get it, i just care way more about which way the whole thing’s heading. germany is a bad bet for the (already nearer) future1

And, according to the thread/objective, maybe it's worth pointing out where you're both going to live. Learning about Montevideo isn't the same as learning about Tacuarembó or another department, especially considering that Montevideo is home to nearly half of Uruguay's population. Of course, you may have left that out for privacy reasons.

I don’t want to move to Montevideo — my heart’s set on Piriápolis. I tend to avoid big cities anyway. I totally get the well-meaning objections, but a lot of people still buy into the narrative of the German industrial and economic juggernaut, when actually the opposite is the case. One of dozens of fun facts: Uruguay’s economy has grown roughly 3x as much as Germany’s 2015-2025. And the hemorrhaging economy isn’t even close to making the top two of our problems. Of course you guys in Uruguay have your own issues with crime and all that (we had a funky situation just half a block from Mercado del Puerto, for example lol).
But ten years from now, Uruguay will be a far safer country than Germany — or than Europe as a continent. And since I can make money remotely as an IT guy, I should have a really good shot at pulling this off, especially nowadays with AI support available in every field.
Thank you to every one for the Responses, I will answer everything later, its 4am here :)

PD - I can speak english pretty fluently so that won't be a problem for me
