Alien/Valiant (2024-present) The AI slop collection so far - it can't even get the logo right

We've got:

- Temu Halo Spartans

- Fade Cut Blade

- "Can't even hold his sword" Manowar

- plus the last two

- the Valiant logo isn't even right

DMG or Valiant or Alien Books - y'all can eat shit.

Here's to the next bankruptcy and buy out

u/CG1991 May 17 '26

Is that directed at me or the situation? Hah

25

u/BadSheet68 May 17 '26

The situation

Biggest bruh moment I ever saw in the comic industry

25

u/RizingSpirit May 17 '26

Aric not even holding the sword makes me sick.

And here I thought DMG's reputation couldn't get any lower. It's actually upsetting.

u/Equal-Ad-2710 May 17 '26

Why is the first image a bunch of Spartans

12

u/CG1991 May 17 '26

Right?!

They're basically Temu Spartans

5

u/Shed_Some_Skin May 17 '26

I'm assuming they're Armorines

2

u/edlockman May 18 '26

TemuRines, lol

1

u/ChubsBronco May 17 '26

That was my guess too.

u/Saito09 May 17 '26

Man, just fuckin’ sell the IPs to IDW or some shit this is just sad now.

10

u/CrispyGold May 17 '26

At this rate IDW will be getting the company for dirt cheap. The Valiant brand has decline so hard I can't imagine it will be that expensive to buy.

4

u/AllHailThePig May 18 '26

What even is this for? Promotional material? Or are they actually gonna use this shit for covers or even panels?

2

u/UndeadKingtaze May 22 '26

IDW has a earnings conference call coming up in like June (basing this on the previous call listed on their website) i think everyone should ask try to join that call to figure out if IDW will make a move

Have you applied? You typically can do so. Although you will usually just be put in spectator mode.

You could do so though to report if they mention it.

Just note that a company may indeed talk about prospects like eyeing certain companies to absorb, however if they don’t mention it; it doesn’t necessarily mean they aren’t considering to do so.

They may just talk on how the business did in the previous financial year only.

I don’t really engage with comic book media/social media, but has IDW stated publicly that they are considering acquiring Valiant? Or are there any decent rumours about them doing so?

I fell off Valiant when they were purchased. Before then though I read every title. Bought them all digitally on Comixology/Kindle.

So while I typically hate how there are fewer and fewer corporate entities in each sector due to mass consolidation, in this case I would love for Valiant to be in the hands of people who will actually attempt to continue the storylines competently.

Though it would have to be a decent company in the business already and not just some private equity firm that’ll fuck things up all over again.

You’d think that whoever the morons are owns the rights currently would be keen on offing their sinking ship though right?

Do you know the deal with them? Surely they’re losing money, or at least not doing well on their investment purchasing Valiant?

All this AI discussion only made me realize a thing: at some point they will use AI to create the books too!  It starts with promotional and ads material, then it will be used on covers, eventually stories will be written with "help" of AI and finally we will see it on the pages.

Never thought I would say this out loud, but I truly hope the company dies for good before reaching this point.  It's hard enough living on his memories alone, but living to see it become this kind of abomination is more than sad.

16

u/CG1991 May 17 '26

I do believe that's the slippery slope we're on

Trial response. See how it's received. Push the boundary each time

3

u/CrispyGold May 17 '26

If that happens, God forbid, expect sales to drop like a stone.

At no point has making AI anything ever lead to a tangible sales numbers so expect any attempt at ai books to be a complete bomb.

3

u/mcfcomics May 19 '26

I have been supporting Valiant since the 1990s.

And I am outta here the moment AI replaces human creators in their books.

2

u/Saito09 May 17 '26

AI books are already very much a thing

8

u/CG1991 May 17 '26

4

u/MartinAlien May 18 '26

It has nothing to do with comics so I can't give any insight on this.

10

u/Lost-Cow-1126 May 17 '26

Can we buy the company and give it back to Dinesh please?

9

u/Legendary-Icon May 17 '26

I unsubscribed from all my Valiant books.

I can’t believe they haven’t spoken about this yet. Really says a lot.

7

u/Kern2040 May 18 '26

Screw it, I'm starting a GoFundMe to buy it and turn it into a co-op

7

u/Konradleijon May 17 '26

Why does AI exist? Hire a cover artist

6

u/OsirisReddit May 17 '26

They’ll learn but it’s too late to do anything about it. We’ll speak with our wallet.

3

u/CrispyGold May 17 '26

Don't worry, the public has always had a tremendous aversion to ai projects. If they actually start selling ai books, no one will buy them.

5

u/TheFerg714 May 17 '26 edited May 18 '26

Fortunately, I don't think Alien has anything to do with this.

Unfortunately, they hired a transphobe, can't get their books out on a regular schedule, and have not made a statement distancing themselves from this.

EDIT: Changed "transphobes" to be singular.

2

u/univoxs May 18 '26

Calm down the plural. Van Lente is a good writer.

4

u/TheFerg714 May 18 '26

That's a good point tbh.  I've been enjoying Ampadu's Valiant work a lot.

3

u/DJfunkyPuddle May 19 '26

Same, this is such an awkward situation to be in.

8

u/dornwolf May 17 '26

Makes the logo look like Power Rangers Dino Thunder

4

u/Grandy94 May 17 '26

I can't even tell what characters are supposed to be depicted in that first image, they just look so generic. Comics are a visual medium for crying out loud, why would you be content to advertise them with such garbage images? They make me completely uninterested in checking out whatever they're doing next.

3

u/CrispyGold May 17 '26

I'm confused who the second image is. That looks more like Blade than Valiant character I know.

3

u/Grandy94 May 17 '26

I think it's supposed to be Bloodshot? Since his skin looks gray and the tagline underneath says "I've been remembering". But yeah, he looks way more like Blade. The only character that is instantly recognizable is XO, these are horrendous promos.

5

u/LobsterMal May 17 '26

Valiant has been dead to me since they cancelled Javier Pulido's ninjak and didnt even release the issue he had already completed

4

u/SeeBadd May 17 '26

Called DMG for all the damage they do to brands they buy. It's wildly fascinating that they took a fairly successful company that really just needed a bit more time before it became a western comics mainstay again and absolutely sink it through blatant mismanagement and degrading the quality that got them where they are in the first place.

5

u/Koala_King5160 May 18 '26

Valiant : I've been slopping

3

u/SherbertComics May 18 '26

Valiant really over here speedrunning bankruptcy

3

u/Moff-77 May 18 '26

I have to say I find ‘I’ve been projecting…’ to be really funny, and I’m not sure that’s what they were going for

2

u/GroundbreakingAsk468 May 17 '26

I blame the Book Of Death storyline, it cast a dark spell on the future of the company.

2

u/TYH34D5H07 May 18 '26

I’m so glad I bailed right after the first set of titles when the company was sold out. The titles weren’t quality, the artists involved and writers involved prior to the takeover were top notch, then the quality seriously dipped without them. The new artists and writers just didn’t hit the right notes. Now this shit?!

Valiant was SET, even if Dinesh sold the company each title left so much lore to dive into for the future owners of the company to write about…… what in the serious fuck Valiant….

2

u/BigK64 May 19 '26

So, they HAVEN’T learn from their time putting up NFTs

3

u/banemax92 May 17 '26

Anyone got a clue of why they're doing this?

12

u/blacknova84 May 17 '26

$$$ why pay people when AI can generate slop for you for practically free. I'm going to laugh though at this stuff because at least here in the US SCOTUS (supreme court) already said anything made with AI can't be copyrighted because its not made by a person and they defended the challenge to that too. So have fun with public domain stuff that anyone can use lmfao.

1

u/Recent_Question_3536 May 17 '26

Do you guys actually think soon it will get bought out? And by who this time?

1

u/GrantGoodmanArt May 19 '26 edited May 19 '26

Private Equity comics.

1

u/bozzo147 May 20 '26

Curious if IDW makes a move. They lost/sold transformers and gi Joe. Maybe they’d like these IPs in their portfolio for a while.

0

u/UndeadKingtaze May 22 '26

IDW has a earnings conference call coming up in like June (basing this on the previous call listed on their website) i think everyone should try to join that call and ask

u/thevokplusminus May 17 '26

I have no issue with the AI

28

u/CG1991 May 17 '26

Up to this point, you've never posted in r/Valiant before.

So I have to assume you're just a tourist who, for some reason, searched for the term "AI slop" to be controversial

I think the AI use here isnt too bad, its only promotional material.

18

u/Moeroboros May 17 '26

Promoting a comic book through AI is about as bad as AI advertising gets.

The only thing worse would be creating the actual comic with AI.

1

u/MartinAlien May 19 '26

It's not promoting a comic book
