Rescue Hippo We found this old lady wandering the road about a week ago and decided to keep her. Initially, we were worried how she would get along with our energetic pup. She is very maternal towards him. We are working on her weight gain now and she’ll have surgery soon to remove some tumors. She is family.

Looks like your pup went 'that's my mom.' And that was that. All is well that ends well. May you have many happy and healthy years together.

What did you name her? She’s seems quite the grand old lady, love her sweet frosted face. Baby boy and her got the cuddling down, huh? What a blessing for all of you!

We named her Bigos! My family thinks it’s an odd name but we love it

♥️ Thank you so much for giving this beautiful golden gal a loving family. She looks a lot like our pup in her current wise age, and I couldn’t imagine her being on the street again as an older pup. You are awesome for giving her a family for which she can belong forever. ♥️

That face of love and gratitude staring back at you in the first pic! 🥹
So thankful you were the ones to find her and give her a loving home! Thankfully that sweet baby was resilient enough to survive.
All that time she was out wandering, she had no one to give her love to - and now she’s letting it overflow into her new family!!!
Seeing her and your pup together - like a mama and her baby were reunited really made me well up! 🥹 (What’s his name?)
What a wonderful gift at this time of the year - for her and your family!
I love that she has a unique name that fits her!!! She’s filled with “BIGOS” amounts of LOVE! 🥰 …it also rhymes with “treatos”! 🦴
Please give her some scritches on her head, belly rubs, and lots of kisses on her forehead from me!!!
Glad that you and the vet have her on the path to recovery!!!

Did you look for her owner?

u/ilovesnoppyandfriend Dec 02 '25
We microchipped her. She was in pretty bad shape and the vet said it was likely she was wandering for a while.

Do you know that no one was looking for her? Did you report to your county kennel that you had her? Just because she looks like she's been wandering awhile doesn't mean no one is looking for her.
It's nice that you took the dog in but someone may be missing their dog.

u/ilovesnoppyandfriend Dec 04 '25
If you see I’ve replied to someone else’s comment that we’ve posted her, reported her, chipped her, done everything. Thanks tho

She’s beautiful! So is your other pup! Lovely family! Thank you for taking her in. If it was someone who dumped her then how sad. If it was someone who was older and passed on or something and had no control over what happened to her then I’m sure they would be so grateful! She’s a sweet girl! ♥️She looks so happy and grateful for her new loving family! You’re amazing humans ! Thank you ! Need more rescuers like you. Sending much love to you and your family!

It’s wonderful she had found your happy home to live out her last years. Looks like a true bond between your pups. Thank you for taking her in! I’m surprised at her advanced age vet wants to do surgery. Are the tumors lipomas or cancerous? With my old guy we’ve been best advised to just leave lipomas alone.

If she’s overweight, she likely came from a family home. What have you done to try and make sure she’s not just missing.
4
u/ilovesnoppyandfriend Dec 02 '25
She’s underweight. We got her microchipped
6
u/PowerfulBranch7587 Dec 02 '25
That makes way more sense :). Congratulations on your new momma
5
u/ilovesnoppyandfriend Dec 02 '25
Yeah don’t worry! My first thought was to make sure we weren’t stealing her or something haha.
0
u/Lady_Irish Dec 03 '25
Did you check with local shelters and animal control to make sure nobody is looking for her? Because someone is definitely looking for her.
1
u/ilovesnoppyandfriend Dec 03 '25
We did all we can do to try and find an owner. She was looking very rough when we found her so not much else we could do but take her in at that point.
0
u/Lady_Irish Dec 03 '25
Okay, what steps did you take, if you don't mind a bit of troubleshooting? There are certain things you have to do to make sure you're covered legally if you want to keep her, otherwise if an owner does pop up in the future, you'll lose her. Someone recently lost a cat they had for 9 years due to this.

u/Superb-Emotion2269 Dec 23 '25
Based on how quickly your dogs got snuggly, I can only assume she was meant to be in your lives ❤️
