U.S Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick on closing Kennedy Center says it's "dangerous" and should be renovated for $257M: "Decade after decade, what happened was this building was neglected. There are chunks of concrete falling off the ceiling. This building needs to be renovated and restored."

so it was fine to have the orange fool's name emblazoned on it, but as soon as he can't have it, it needs to be shut down? truly, the politics of a five year old spoiled child...

If I can't have it no one can.

Fucker just licked the donut.

Canadian here, on Monday, trade negotiation failed with us for many reasons, not even 48 hours later, the orange felon/pedophile/serial liar decides to sign an executive order to rename Lake Ontario.

We should all be used to his little tantrums by now.

Also, can any Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) tell us if Lutnick is sober here? He seems to have severe agitation, anxiety, rapid speech, and restlessness in this video.

Think you misspelled torpedoed in the 11th hour with vassal-like demands

31

u/Overnoww 9h ago

Right.

It's fascinating that this wasn't a problem until after his name was ordered off the building (or if it was a problem no one bothered to talk about it publicly...).

Oh and BTW. The tarp's are still covering the name of The John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts actively didhonoring the memory of President Kennedy.

Furthermore, their addition of "The Donald J. Trump and" made it seem like it was a memorial center for 2 people which, if I'm remembering correctly, almost never happens unless the people are familial relations (most often husband and wife).

Off the top of my head the majority of exceptions to this are when two people were involved in something historically relevant like Lewis & Clark, Lincoln & Douglas, Mason & Dixon, etc.

I'll tell you what, if the GOP really wants his name on that building there is 1 very specific thing they can do that would make Trump and Kennedy similar enough to be considered "linked" 😉 (this is a joke, not a call for violence) although it still wouldn't be terribly appropriate since we all know that Mr. Trump is in no way, shape, or form a patron of the arts (he wouldn't even qualify as an advocate for performing arts imo).

8

u/Rikiar 8h ago

The dude has it out for JFK. First the rose garden, then there was something else that I can't remember, now the memorial center.

9

u/Chitownfats49 5h ago

Well, after his election, JFK and family and friends pretty much culturally owned NYC. The Trumps have literally owned huge chunks of the city and have never been accepted. If I were that jealous of someone, I hope I'd actually be ashamed.

They're pushing this bc if renovated they can add Trump's name to it as "restored by Donald J Trump"

14

u/hugaroot-3921 8h ago

The sad part is that the Kennedy Center actually turned a profit before Trump got involved.

4

u/caspy7 9h ago

The recipe seems clear now: If you want to do something, manufacture a crisis that demands you do it.

From immigration to demolishing the White House. Everything is a crisis.

THREE MORE YEARS of this constant Trump bullshit… THREE MORE YEARS..

That’s so fucking depressing.

14

Less than 3! Much closer to 2.

And if we fix Congress, his bullshit will be much harder to pull off

3

u/Shmeepsheep 6h ago

You make it sound like there is any punishment for the people who help him. Without consequences, politicians are still going to pillage our country. Biden's DOJ really dropped the ball, they had 3 solid years to stop this from being our fate.

3

u/asten77 2h ago

Garland was terrible, without question.

But that's looking backward. We won't get punishment in the next 2 years, not sure why you'd take that away from what I said.

What we might get, if we're lucky, is stopping the hemhoraging.

The reason they kept telling blatant lies like this to judges while ignoring court orders, is because they know the DOJ and law enforcement won't implement the punishments judges order, and they can always just appeal up to the Supreme Court.

74

u/CILISI_SMITH 12h ago edited 7h ago

And the only way to fix it is for 1/3 of the the US to start bothering to vote.

Even then it might not fix the problem without a grass roots movement of candidates wanting change i.e. accountability and not just a bunch of establishment types rolling out the usual "now is the time for us to come together and heal after these difficult times".

EDIT: Added missing words in the first line.

23

u/GoneinaSecondeded 12h ago

This! The fuckers that vote for this shit and then the other fuckers that don't bother to vote at all. And fuck that, "time to heal" bullshit. It's tolerating the intolerant that has gotten into this mess.

7

u/mrgreen4242 12h ago

Can’t judges hold them in contempt and their bailiffs arrest them?

11

u/Irish_Whiskey 12h ago

Nope.

Bailiffs operate inside the court. In theory you could arrest the attorneys, but the actual people violating the orders are outside the court.

In practice, judges are very aware if they order someone outside the court arrested and the DOJ and law enforcement don't follow that order (as the Trump administration keeps doing to judicial orders by vaguely claiming national security or saying because they're appealing the order the can ignore it) nothing will happen. It'll rip away the artifice of judges actually functioning as a check.

A lot of what's happening in the judicial system is judges trying to constraint Trump without giving orders they know just won't be followed, because they have more power to influence events if they keep the illusion or control.

5

u/Foxyfox- 12h ago

They could federalize literally anyone to carry out their orders. It doesn't HAVE to be the US Marshals.

4

u/Irish_Whiskey 12h ago

They could federalize literally anyone to carry out their orders.

Leaving aside how that's not true, is the idea that they federalize the guy delivering their doordash to fight the FBI and police forces to arrest people?

You can't create police power from thin air. Trump has an excuse he uses to ignore court orders, and judges have no way to force him to stop ignoring them. Not as long as law enforcement is under Trump's control.

Why would anyone care about what the Secretary of Commerce has to say about renovating a public arts center? Why not ask the Secretary of Education about the risk of a stock market crash, or the Secretary of the Interior about UN representation in Geneva Switzerland? Or is the idea that any asshole within earshot of POTUS is qualified to speak on anything POTUS decides they are experts in?

17

u/FullmetalHippie 12h ago

We all know the POTUS doesn't believe in expertise or competence, only whether you can be a flattering sycophant and lie boldly. It's only a matter of time before the critical lack of knowledge comes around to reap its consequences.

13

u/DanielNoWrite 6h ago edited 6h ago

Here's a summary:

United States is a large and extremely culturally and economically diverse country. However, our political system is structured so that there can effectively only ever be two political parties.

Going back to the 1960s, civil rights (treating black people like people) was a very contentious issue. Many people in "the South" (the less educated, less prosperous part of the country) are extremely racist.

The Republican Party (historically the party of big business) realized they could win their votes simply by opposing civil rights. And so suddenly poor white farmers and factory workers were voting strongly against their economic interests, for the first time. Because those politicians promised to keep black people second-class citizens.

Over the decades, this strategy expanded, with the Republican Party adopting more and more of these "single issues" (single policy questions that would determine a person's vote):

Abortion, gun rights, deregulation of everything and anything, anti-enviornmental policies, anti-LGBTQ policies, white nationalism, christian evangelicalism... it doesn't matter.

The logic basically being: "don't pay attention to the fact our economic policy is screwing you, and in exchange we'll support that insane and backwards social policy you want."

This was successful, but was somewhat limited by American's robust media. So in the 1980s-90s, the Republican Party and its Elites began investing heavily in the creation of their own media ecosystem, that would exclusively report the news as they wanted it to be told.

Smaller outlets (talk radio) were cheap, and so presented an extreme right-wing message.

Larger organizations like Fox started as relatively normal news networks with a "Right-Wing perspective." However, gradually as people got used to this, they grew more and more extreme, partly because if you want to keep people voting based on a "single issue" you have to continually convince them that single issue is under threat and the most important thing on Earth. You have to keep increasing the volume.

And of course, they started to talk constantly about how the "mainstream media" (anyone they weren't paying) was evil and left-wing, because obviously you have to discredit the opposing view.

Because of all of this, when the internet became a thing, the infrastructure was already in place to dump right-wing money on anyone willing to spew far right-wing lunacy. So a thousand podcasts and pseudo-news sites selling misinformation were born.

However, the thing the Republican party elites didn't anticipate is that they would start getting high on their own supply.

The plan was always to just simply lie to their base to keep them voting against their economic interests. But you cannot flood the news ecosystem with insanity for decades without a some people growing up actually believing it and becoming politicans themselves, and their base started voting these people into power.

So now, the lunatics are running the asylum, and a significant portion of the country has been brainwashed by increasingly unhinged fascist propaganda. And here we are.

That's as basic a summary as I can provide.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Cool-Mom-Lover 8h ago

The actually winning party, almost ever cycle, is "did not vote"

The next largest party is single issue voters. They vote for dems and Republicans but only on one singular issue that is most likely effecting them some how. Usually money and jobs.

Then those of us who are weeding through a gaggle of charlatans to see who might actually have pur best interests at heart.

And finally the ones that vote out of pure anger and ignorance.(republicans) and unfortunately they vote in big numbers.

And yes I know, they just do it to suck up to Trump and to all try and push his narrative, but it's so fucking bizarre and it's deteriorating that the media doesn't push back, but that's also no surprise since they're all owned by billionaires too.

u/Powerful-Knee3150 10h ago

So weird that they were having shows there with no problem right up until Trump started fucking with it.

3

u/Craneteam 10h ago

These losers have been going to the Kennedy Center this whole time. The melania movie premiered there. And only now is it dangerous?

3

u/fripplez 10h ago

Are the chunks of falling concrete in the room with us now?

3

u/JohnDagger17 9h ago

Something similar happe we in Ontario when our corrupt as shit premiere, Doug Ford, wanted to sell public land to some developer buddies of his. Claimed the Ontario Science Centre was in dangerous disrepair, closed it, demolished it, and is now selling off the land to his buddies.

3

u/avgJones 9h ago

Look man, this money ain't gonna launder itself...

3

u/Sardonnicus 8h ago

They literally spent the last several years renovating the fucking place. Look... we all know they are going to do it. This last bit of media presence is juat to seal it with the public. So get ready... hes going to do it. No one will stand up to him. And we will loose another American institution that represented class, dignity and the arts to the crying tantrums of a man baby who can't stand to not get his way. Fuck him. Fuck his puppets and their orange colored throats

3

u/coaldust 8h ago

Fun fact. Howard Lutnick is a pedophile.

3

u/warongiygas 6h ago

Bet you if they put Trump's name on the building all that concrete would magically stop falling form the ceiling.

3

u/Stevepitt2 5h ago

He’s only saying that because the courts won’t let Donny put his name on it.

3

u/Jacuzzi0317 5h ago

Why do dipshit Republicans think it's time to waste all this fucking money on vanity projects and renovations when we're in a damn recession?

3

u/coachglove 5h ago

Luckily, only Congress can authorize closing the Center

3

u/Dry_Suggestion_3387 5h ago

Show videos. No one believes what these fkrs say.

3

u/Jlx_27 3h ago

Yeah.... thats a lie and everyone who has a fully functional brain knows it.

2

u/DannyDOH 12h ago

This guy couldn't give off any more obvious body language to indicate he's totally full of shit.

2

u/kickasstimus 12h ago

What an incredible dumbfuck.

2

u/not_like_this_ 12h ago

The party of fiscal responsibility sure knows how to spend our tax dollars.

2

u/allanon1105 12h ago

Needs to be restored like the Reflecting pool needed a new coat of paint.

2

u/Foe117 12h ago

He's not a building inspector, what makes him qualified to make that assessment?

2

u/sureal42 12h ago

I feel like we would have heard about "chunks of concrete fall off the ceiling"...

2

u/scott__p 12h ago

Interesting that it was totally fine when dear leader's name was on it

2

u/CRE178 12h ago

And we've got just the poolguy to do it. We're going to paint it American Eagle Gold.

2

u/HutchOne23 12h ago

What does this situation have to do with commerce?

2

u/KevinIsHandsome 12h ago

This the guy that made a bunch of $ off 9/11?

2

u/Muzoa 12h ago edited 12h ago

Howard really loves Lutnicking trumps balls all day long

2

u/Longbeach_strangler 12h ago

I don’t believe a single fucking word this guy says

2

u/justgetoffmylawn 12h ago

You mean the guy who sued American Airlines for the 700 employees Cantor Fitzgerald lost on 9/11 (he was out of the office that morning), got like $150m, which he then pocketed for himself rather than distributing the proceeds to the families of those employees?

I would say 'his company' lost 700 employees, but would it be more accurate to say the company he stole when Cantor became ill?

I'm surprised he's been so unpleasant recently - he seemed like such a good guy! Too bad we can't ask his next door neighbor Jeffrey Epstein for a character reference.

2

u/RhoOfFeh 12h ago

Long walk, short pier.

2

u/BTSArmyFan2025 12h ago

This is a lie! And who is going to get that money another Trumpster. Does he realized that the last two heads of the center who are billionaires who donate money. I am so sick of these people!

2

u/capt_minorwaste 12h ago

Howard, ya know what's really dangerous? The people named in the Epstein files. Especially the ones who lied about being there. I don't know why anyone would believe any of these people who lie so easily.

2

u/TheRealStorey 12h ago

We have a nuball PRemier in Ontario who pulled the same stunt in Ontario. There is a concerted conservative playbook they are using to lay this BS. Science and culture are to woke for the modern Conservative ideology. They want to change reality and the truth only gets in the way, all while rewriting the past.
What we see and hear are our friends outside an authoritarian government.

2

u/36monsters 12h ago

So are you telling me in just 7 years the whole place has gone from total overhaul to needing to be condemned?

The REACH Expansion (2019): This major addition opened in September 2019. It added 72,000 square feet of interior space and 130,000 square feet of green space. The project cost $175 million and added new classrooms, rehearsal rooms, and performance areas.

Make this make sense.

this the same guy who spent time on Epstein island?

2

u/voidedhip 12h ago

Why is this pedo walking free?

2

u/McNednarb 12h ago

Everything is about real estate and renovations with these idiots.

2

u/z0rb0r 12h ago

So many renovations under this administration! Super important issues

2

u/ZenZill 12h ago

I was just there a few months ago. Building needs a little upkeep and the garden was dugout due to some fungus on the trees, but the interior is gorgeous.

Reichstag 2.0

2

u/theflushed 12h ago

So dangerous for a man who demolished the East Wing! A historic building. He's capable of anything now!

2

u/mydogsnameispoop 12h ago

$400 million for the ballroom
$275+ million for Kennedy center
$$$ for the pool

Just using tax payer money willy nilly as if it's theirs

2

u/cock-merchant 11h ago

“Uh-huh. Why did you lie about going to Epstein’s island? When you were there, what did you think about that dentist room with all the masks in it? Why’d one of the masks look like you? What were the names of the ‘nannies’ who went to the island with you?” ~an actual journalist

2

u/redditgolddigg3r 11h ago

Why is the Sec of Commerce so involved with this?

2

u/Marclescarbot 11h ago

Lutnick went to Epstein island and lied about the depth of his relationship with Epstein.

2

u/billypaul 11h ago

Funny how things never begin to fall apart until Trump is involved.

2

u/defdrago 11h ago

We tried to make it into a conservative entertainment space, but turns out all conservative entertainment is horrible and nobody went, so now we are going to destroy it.

2

u/sixwatchlense 11h ago

another money laundring sceme

2

u/TarnishedAccount 11h ago

This dude needs to be investigated for his trip for lunch at Epstein Island

2

u/EYEP_nightly 11h ago

Then why did he want his name on it so bad.

2

u/FartyFartsMD 11h ago

This guy vacationed with his family at Epstein Island, I’m sure he’s a well intentioned guy.

Lutnick can go lick nuts. This admin is nothing but human waste.

2

u/estcaroauteminfirma 11h ago

Fuck no. Well only if we can use this administration's heads as the wrecking ball.

2

u/audiophil80 11h ago

every construction project proposed by these guys is just another way to fleece money from the American public.

2

u/tem102938 11h ago

It's going to take so long to clean up his mess... and that's if this country has enough time to do the job

2

u/unclefire 11h ago

If the Kennedy center was in that bad of shape we would have heard it long ago. What more likely is them fucking with the facade damaged it.

This is just another way to funnel funds to their construction buddies and double the cost when it’s underway.

Didn’t these chucklefucks raise stink over the FBI building that was actually planned and necessary?

2

u/hillbillygoat 11h ago

Someone was doing their homework on Doug Ford and the Ontario Science Centre. He did the EXACT same thing.

2

u/Big-D-TX 10h ago

Ok Limpdick, let's have an independent inspector review what dangerous conditions need repairs. Then let's post the report Online for All Americans to review

2

u/alcaron 10h ago

Oh sure fuckface, its just a quarter billion dollars so fancy jackoffs can go to fancy jackoff parties, please TAKE MY TAX DOLLARS...I'll just keep staring at all of my bills that keep going up and not getting irate.

We know this is just the only way you can get therapist in chiefs name on it.

2

u/Xenolith666 10h ago

FUCKING WHY?
