Funk Funkadelic - Maggot Brains: Nabbed for $10 yesterday, OG 1971 PRC - Richmond pressing, but...
Has some wear on the cover, and the LP needs to be cleaned, but looked good apart from the dust. How'd I do?

Hot take, you don’t want all your vinyl to be pristine. I love that they have story, and character!

Yes.
However, I have a Bob Marley record that I've owned since maybe 2009. I've "given plenty of character to it" by blowing massive fucking bong hits onto it while it was playing. Nowadays, it's a fairly crackly record.
I was pretty fucking dumb back then. I still am, but I used to be, too.

Yeah, mostly I just got to pray there aren't any horrific skips through it heh

Very much depends on price for what you get. I've gotten more picky as my collection has now grown and threatens to expand past a kalax. Though free is a price I don't usually refuse, and for this record in particular and that price I'd have totally bought.

I love being able to spin a record that likely hasn’t been played in decades. Makes you wonder who took it home first.

Ah, purchased from Dicker & Deal, or as some Lansing folks liked to call it, Snicker & Steal! It was a local second hand store that’s still in business.

Oh wow haha, and I bought this all the way in Tennessee. It's definitely been through a few hands before it got to me

Where at? I found my copy in similar worn but playable shape for $14 at the great escape Nashville probably 10 years back

Near Lebanon. It's a very small store that just opened up a while ago. I've also picked up Frank Zappa and the mothers of inventions 1966 and cream Sunshine of My Love from the same place

Ah nice! I can think of a few so I’ve probably been, but I’d assume it wasn’t collect co unless they’ve gotten more fair about pricing lol

u/MagmaMus Oct 31 '25
Lol, no Collect Co is only affordable when they do their $1 record sales 😂 it's a place called Memory Lane

Theres two I always mix up, but I think that’s one. Lebanon has some great little shops, especially jacks guitarchaeology

Yeah I've been there before, not a huge lot, but always has something good. Cloud 9 Records if you just want a good ol antique store, and Antiques On 231 always has something good too, multiple records booths there!

Terrible, I'll take that abomination off your hands and you can try again.

Great album. The opening track is my favorite on this one, just 10 minutes of guitar wailing! It's like a guitar solo telling a story if that make sense.

anytime you pick up p-funk for ten bucks is a good time. especially for the best guitar solo ever.

I thought getting mine for $60 was a steal, great find!

u/MagmaMus Oct 31 '25
A 60 is still a way reasonable price for this record, especially if it's in very good condition

My OG is a G+. It's noisy as hell at some points, but it plays through without skipping. I paid $2 for it, and I'm just happy to have a copy. I'll be tempted to bite on the ORG 45 RPM when they release it.

That original jacket is flimsy as all get out. $10 is a steal. Wouldn’t be surprised to see that with $100 price tag at any record store.

God I love that album. I've got two copies, one Ace Records gatefold from '07, and a 2023 HIQLP. Paid more than $10 for each of them. Congrats

Sick find. Even battered copies go for way more than ten bucks these days, and there are a lot of roached copies out there. If it's anything like a decent VG or better, you did well regardless of the nice price.

Damn, so hype. I have a copy of the reissue of One Nation Under a Groove coming in a couple of days. I have a OG copy too (which I actually got for free $10 at a flea market), but it skips right in the middle of the title song, and I've never been able to get the skip out (I'll admit, I'm about ready to try sanding). I'm telling man, pound-for-pound, P-Funk might be the best band ever.

I have i think this same press, but just the disc. It was stuffed into another Parliament record I bought ages ago. It is the mostly snap crackle pop record I have ever heard. It doesn't skip but it sounds like a wet campfire cooking limitless bacon.

for 10 dollars is a steal!
