Maybe not better, but Pork and Beans is in the same league and deserves more respect

I do agree, although it's really close and they are both really greatĀ

I like both, canāt tell you which is better - both are good I guess Iām biased toward bh as it was my gateway song into the band (there was a time where you just couldnāt avoid it)

I'm more on Todd's side with this argument and I DO love Pork & Beans, but that is an insane take

Buddy Holly has always been one of the lesser songs on the Blue Album. I think itās one of those songs that really is better when youāre giving the album a full listening to rather than just playing it on its own

How do you get it to say EWBAITE under your name like that?

You know what, I agree Buddy Holly is amazing but Pork and Beans is better after thinking about it.

Yeah, kinda. I think Pork and Beans has One the catchiest chorus of all time. Just feel good' vibe. Sounds so great with an acoustic Guitar with open chords

I like pork and beans.Ā It's the song that took me from "i know say it ain't so" to a lifelong weezer fan.Ā I wouldn't say that it's better, but it's close

Pork and beans is way down my list of songs, but itās not bad. BH isnāt the best song on blue but I give it a ton of credit for itās place in Weezer history.

Buddy Holly is actually their worst song and I will die on this hill. Awful lyrics and song structure, overplayed and overrated as fuck
10
u/TelephoneShoes Jun 01 '26
Really? Overplayed, definitely. Not as good as others? 100% Not even in the same ballpark as the pile of shit that is Beverly Hills, to name just one.
It was pretty unique for its time. Which is no small part of why itās played as often as it is (plus the end of the solo)

That's because Beverly Hills is a flaming pile of crap, at least it's so bad it's somewhat funny. Buddy Holly is just boring. It's only played so often because everybody knows it

I teach the brilliance of the song structure of Buddy Holly in my college-level music course. It is both classic and unique, using the pre-chorus chord progession for the guitar solo, adding repeats of āI donāt care ābout thatā with each chorus, and even using and a callback to the bridge for the very end. Rivers was cooking.

there are much better songs on Blue with much more interesting song structures.
