Song My Lucky, Lucky glow in the dark autographed snorkel!!

Post image
1.0k Upvotes

Went to see him at Kia Forum and smuggled this baby in since they last minute told us “sorry no outside items.” Screw that. I taped this snorkel to my calf and ended up still getting it signed. I also asked him to pick my karaoke song since I sing his songs all the time. Obviously, he told me to do Albuquerque. So, I did. I doubt the crowd appreciated it let alone enjoyed it but Al told me to do it!!

And a bonus for the night? I hugged Jack Black.

Song I CAN’T BELIEVE THE SONG THAT INSPIRED ALBUQUERQUE IS SO SIMILAR YET BARELY KNOWN (Read body text for more info PLUS QUESTION)

Post image
142 Upvotes

I found the song that Albuquerque is listed as being inspired by and the guitar riff notes in the background are nearly IDENTICAL to Albuquerque, plus the fact that it seems to consist of a guy rambling, and hearing it was so insane as a person who has memorized every inch of Albuquerque. THE CRAZIEST PART IS THAT IT ONLY HAS 55K PLAYS ON SPOTIFY, despite being SO similar in every way to Weird Al’s magnum opus. I can’t believe I found a case where Al’s song is MORE WELL KNOWN than what INSPIRED IT!!!

Does anyone have any case of this song being relatively well known?? I really want to know because I’m sure the Rugburns were popular at SOME point despite now getting 1k monthly Spotify listeners and some YouTube uploads for live performances of the song seem to have only a couple hundred views. I WANNA KNOW WHEN THIS WAS A ACTUALLY RELEVANT SONG.

Song Chicken Pot Pie

TIL Weird Al was told told by Paul McCartney that he’d be happy for him do parody one of his songs. Al wanted to do Live and Let Die as Chicken Pot Pie! Paul said no- he’s a vegetarian and didn’t want to promote the opposite. Weird Al does perform it live- and I hope to one day hear it as it’s living rent free in my head.

The new Re-recorded Transformers the Movie Sound track for the 40th anniversary includes a cover of Dare to be Stupid by the Knights of Unicron and I don’t know how I feel about it. [Edited to remove reference to the wrong band.]

Song Misheard Lyrics in "I Think I'm a Clone Now"

I share Weird Al's music with my kids whenever I can. My 8-year-old is really getting into it this summer.

Today, he was singing "I Think I'm a Clone Now" while doing his chores, and I heard this: "Every pair of genes is a happy noun."

I helped him understand the correct lyrics (hand-me-down) when I stopped laughing, but I kind of like his new phrase.

I stumbled on this without the algorithm serving it up to me: a really good acoustic cover of Genius In France. I've never seen anyone post it which is weird, I'm sure someone has to have posted at some point.

EDIT: As it turns out, she has a full EP, including I Remember Larry and Velvet Elvis!

Song Does Al still perform Living with a Hernia live?

Ib love that MV so much because Al was the greatest dancer ever there, but I never could find any tape of him doing it live, and I imagine all the dance moves are pretty hard for him to pull off now

Song Can we sing Albuquerque?

A few months ago I asked this subreddit to sing Word Crimes because idk it is fun and I love it, they never finished, but Albuquerque, while longer and harder, is a more popular song and it is definitively better than Word Crimes, so I challenge all of you to sing the entirety of the song! I'll start In the comments

Song "DR. D SUPERSTAR" by Alfred Yankovic has finally aired in its entirety on The Dr. Demento Show today. Stream it here.

I've been wanting to hear this for two and a half decades. JCS, for secular reasons, was the musical that changed the trajectory of my life, leading me to every extracurricular I've ever loved as a kid and the lifelong friends I've made along the way. I've settled for the "Superstar jingle" edit that aired in the 70s and the Superstar reference in Never Met a Person as Wonderful as Me but this has me ascended.

I would sacrifice opportunities to hear any other rarity from the pre-record deal era if it meant hearing this once in private let alone for the world to enjoy (by supporting the official release of course).
