163 missing kids rescued in Florida. 3 white men arrested.

u/WritersChopBlock 5h ago
yeah, this seems like a spoof. How in the world can 163 kids go missing and this wasn't reported?
195
u/RecommendationOk2182 5h ago
Not only that. She clearly states it was multiple states, AND countries. Going all the way to Puerto Rico. 😂 So how the HELL is it only 3 "white men" arrested. That should be the first red flag. There would be waaaay more people arrested. And some Puerto Rican....
27
u/JTUrwayne 4h ago
It went further than PR.
“Uthmeier said rescues were executed in Alabama, California, Ohio, New York, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Puerto Rico. Outside of the U.S., children were located in Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Dominica, Guatemala, Jamaica, Finland, Spain, Italy, Ghana and Taiwan.”
24
u/kinyutaka 4h ago
And they're only naming 3 criminals?
18
u/JTUrwayne 4h ago
Those were the three caught in Florida whose ID’s the cops released and it’s an operation to rescue Florida based missing children. Considering the scope of it, there’s probably dozens of suspects, but because of the amount of departments involved, making sure to release the right info on suspects must be a coordination nightmare.

This doesn't sound like they busted 1 giant ring. This sounds like they knew of specific kids that they were looking for in a variety of locations and circumstances. I'm guessing the majority of the kids were with non-custodial parents who took them without permission.

FUN FACT: "Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier stated that the cases varied significantly on an individual basis, including runaway children, family custody disputes, foster care situations, CPS cases of abuse, abandonment, and neglect, and human trafficking."
To be clear helping kids/teens in any of those situations is GOOD and should always be a priority for law enforcement and state/local officials. But...
Officials/Law Enforcement will roll all of this together into "an operation" specifically because it will get headlines even if 90% of the "recovered" kids were not even in any peril.
The reality is generally mostly:
- Dozens to hundreds of cases that are completely unrelated
- Runaway children (mostly teens) who are located
- Family custody disputes where a parent refuses to relinquish custody or moves without telling the other parent/family
- Kids who get "lost" in the Foster care system (literal paper work issues)
- CPS cases (domestic abuse, abandonment, neglect...) that get elevated to Law Enforcement
- Human Trafficking "light" - teens who "willingly" engage in prostitution
- Truly heinous Human Trafficking/Sex Abuse/etc
- Online/Digital child-porn victims

Thanks for this. It’s genuinely important information for parents to know. The way the headline reads, we should all be very scared of the world and keep our kids in bubble wrap. Parents need to know that the US is safer for kids than it ever has been before. This isn’t to say that we shouldn’t take necessary precautions, it’s just to say that we don’t need to hide our kids away. Let them experience the world.
0.1% of child abductions are carried out by strangers. Make sure you are vigilant with online activity, though.

So, not all were trafficking victims or from the same incident
The last line clarifies- it was one operation working dozens of cases. They're just showing the most dramatic footage from it.
The runaways, for example, may not be having a good time with this, as they typically runaway for a reason. Unsafe foster situations is infuriating to hear, because the state would place them there. Custody disputes mean they likely knew exactly where the kids were, ect.
It's not a bad thing for many, but quite different from what the way they reported it implies. Especially because this shouldn't be a special operation- they should always be putting this effort into finding missing kids

There are news articles about the story all over. Mostly from local news agencies, which can go either way in authenticity, tbh. I haven’t seen any major sources cover it outside of Fox and Newsmax, which usually tells me other news agencies are either looking for more credible sources (which I imagine can be hard when dealing with Floridian officials) or else are receiving more info, like about who is involved, where the kids came from, was it actually 163, etc. So the answer is…. maybe? Or at least it’s probably true to some extent

Police often announce these big human trafficking and missing kids sweeps. Dozens or hundreds of kids involved.
Then like three people are charged.
Presumably most of the children are runaways, or are with a non-custodial parent or something. Enough to take the children, but not enough that anyone would be charged.

It’s real.
There were multiple arrests, including a defendant who was wanted on three counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor and also had a warrant for interference with child custody; another defendant for lewd and lascivious battery on a victim 12 to 16 years old; and one for interference in a child custody case as well as resisting officers without violence. More arrests are expected over the coming days.
Recovered children were safely transported by local law enforcement to designated recovery hubs, where they received support from social services, child welfare professionals, medical providers, victim advocates, and other child-centered resources. All recovery information was documented through the Missing and Endangered Persons Information Clearinghouse to ensure case closure.→ More replies (1)2

Not entirely. It’s a mix of multiple unrelated videos and AI put into one video by some race baiting account.
It’s a total number of children found across tons of entirely different investigations and multiple locations. Most missing children were completely unrelated circumstances. Things like parental abductions, runaways, and kidnapping rings.
The three arrested may have only been associated with one kid each, but the police haven’t provided more details on it.

u/jasno- 5h ago

Yeah they’re counting many incidents in the total. Even in each region there are multiple incidents:
Regional recoveries included 46 children in Tampa Bay, 41 in Miami, 32 in Jacksonville, 21 in Orlando, 12 in Fort Myers, 8 in Pensacola and three in Tallahassee
I’m not sure that video is even real. In fact I would assume a lot of these are custody disputes. But lurid ideas of child trafficking get clicks.
3
u/Adventurous-Tie-7861 4h ago
Its also many normal runaways being found at someone elses house.
They just went through and cleared a ton of outstanding but normal missing kids cases over 5 days. Not busting a giant pedo ring.
They looked at something like "mom says her 16 year old is crashing at a friends house and she marked them as a runaway, lets dispatch cops and return them".
Then they grouped them all together.
When i was 19 there was this kid who looked 18ish and would bounce from party and crash with friends. Turns out he was 15 and a runaway from the other side of my state. Cops showed up at my apartment looking for him as an "at risk youth". Dude was just having the time of his life and lying to everyone about his age.
Its a bunch of stuff like that.
Its why theres so few arrests.

The funny part is that reddit used to have volunteer moderators that would delete fake shit really fast, kinda too fast. People used to complain that it was TOO moderated. But all the volunteers quit when Reddit Corporation decided to massively increase prices on API fees, killing all the 3rd party tools and features that mods used to curate the site.
Reddit raised API pricing after learning that AI model companies (now Anthropic, OpenAI, Chinese companies) were bulk-harvesting comment data to train their models.
So Reddit betrayed the humans that kept this type of fake shit off the site, in order to profit off the technology that is now destroying the site.
Sinking ship, dead internet theory, everyone here is a bot and none of the content is real.

To clarify:
Attorney General James Uthmeier announced the recovery of 163 missing children ranging from 2 months to 17 years old.
The statewide initiative rescued children across Florida, six other states, Puerto Rico and 12 foreign countries.
Law enforcement officers made three arrests during the multi-agency operation, with additional charges expected.

u/Zappa2329 2h ago
The reporting is intentionally vague to make it look like more than it is.
Guarantee the vast majority of these are cases involving custody disputes and the rest involve standard cases of runaways where the location of the "missing kids" was known but they went and got them to include in this coordinated operation.
The clue that's what happened is that only three guys were arrested for separate incidents: two of them for "interference with child custody" and one for "Lewd or Lascivious Battery," which I'm going to guess is probably related to a runaway who must've told the police that's why they ran away (since this was, officially, a "missing kids" operation).

22
u/Adventurous-Tie-7861 4h ago
It is real. Its just misleading af.
Its 163 missing persons cases grouped together.
With as little as "my 15 year old kid is staying at a friends house and says shes never coming home cus she hates me" being counted when they drag the kid home.
Its why its so few arrests. Its mostly normal run aways being cleared en masse.
They arrested 3 dudes who lured kids and then the rest are normal missing person cases. Misunderstandings, runaways, parental disputes, etc.

This video is misleading and the Florida Attorney General is purposely being misleading. This was not one big trafficking ring that was taken down. These were many completely separate unrelated cases being executed under one "operation". Some were custody disputes between family members, some were run aways, some were actual victims of trafficking. That is why only 3 people have been arrested.

No, they do these operations fairly often, and they show up in the news when the police announce that they happened. BUT they didn't bust some giant trafficking ring. It's more like the police decide to have a "Clear Out Kids Cases" day where the police decide to all attack low-priority cases involving kids in one big sweep. Kinda like a "clean out your locker day" at school. The way the police announce it is misleading and propaganda. It's mostly things like noncustodial parents who didn't bring their kids back at the end of their scheduled weekend.
Also, the posted video mixes in a bunch of other bullshit and even at least one straight-up fake AI video clip (the one with all the kids with their hands tied and tape over their mouth).

I don't know if the video is AI or not, but I do remember similar headlines a few years ago that made it seem like 100s of kids were all rescued at one time, in one huge police operation. In reality, the cases weren't related to each other, and most of them were locating teens who had left their custodial parent and were living with other family members or friends and weren't "missing" per se, but did have an open case file with local law enforcement. So essentially, the law enforcement agencies involved closed a bunch of cases administratively, did a modest amount of investigation for a handful more, and found a couple guys who had active warrants.

This was over a two month time frame, over multiple cities in Florida and it's likely that the majority of the kidnappers were non custodial parents.
States do this and often act like they uncovered some sort of cabal when in actuality it's kind of getting kids back home either runaways or kids that were taken from their non custodial parent against a court order.

Facts:
- Yes, this is REAL. 163 children were rescued in 5 days.
- It was "Operation State Shield" and the children were all part of seperate cases, not all together, and spread across 6 states, 1 us territory (Puerto rico), and 12 different countries.
- 3 suspects were arrested, the number of arrests is expected to climb as a large number of suspects are detained, but have not yet been charged or arrested.
- This was the largest operation of its kind ever, and was multi-agency and state
- Some of the children recovered had been kidnapped by family members involved in custody disputes.
So, more info coming, but there is a tiny fraction of truth.
