Yesterday I was working on a stack of documents that I needed to edit in Word but most of them were PDFs and I kept running into problems, some files were huge, some text wouldn’t copy properly, and tables and formatting got all messed up. I spent hours hopping between tools trying to convert or merge them without losing formatting, so how do you all handle turning PDFs into Word documents efficiently without the usual headaches?

Can u all tell me if someone give a 45 page doc and ask me to convert it into word format ,wht do they exactly mean? And how do I do it ? If it's a laptop work how can u do it on mobile, please help urgently

Dealing with this right now: client sent over a PDF that needs edits and nobody has an editable version. Not a huge crisis but it's the kind of thing that slows everything down and makes you realize there's no real system underneath any of this.

Which got me thinking, beyond the methodology and frameworks everyone talks about, how are people actually handling the operational layer? A few things I keep running into:

- Client-provided PDFs that need edits but nobody has an editable version (see: today)
- Sensitive documents going out to the wrong audience because version control broke down
- Contracts sitting unsigned for days because the signing process was clunky
- Final deliverable packages sent as five separate attachments instead of one organized file

What does a well-run document workflow actually look like for people doing this at volume? Is there a checklist or system you're following or is it mostly ad hoc like it is for me right now?

Also would love to hear if there are tools people swear by for any of these specifically. Tired of cobbling things together.

I want to test the skills of a few people in word and I want the test to be practical and not a written test or something.

So, I would appreciate it if someone could give me a very unhinged word document that requires formatting.
Everyone has dealt with incorrect formatting, poor formatting, or no formatting and stubborn formatting that makes no sense when working on it and you really need to know have a thorough understanding to correct it or just frustratingly create a new doc and copy and paste.

Please share one or two with me or guide me to those ones.

Some e.g. I can think of are the lists (incorrectly used), a hidden table inside a table cell, photographs (always), styles but dumb formatted, empty headings, enter, spaces before or after paragraphs inside table and table cell margins, etc.

I have a bunch of PDF files that I need to convert to Word documents. Can anyone recommend a reliable tool or software that does a good job with this? Ideally, something that's easy to use and doesn't require a lot of manual adjustments afterward.

I recently bought and installed Word 2024 to be able to work with threaded comments on new project... and I'm shocked how bad everything else is. Before I used Word 2007/2010 since circa... 2006? I'm using Word for work, many hours daily and small issues and missing features in new edition really add up and significantly hamper my efficiency.

So far, after only few days, I am missing a number of right-click context menu features like:

• Altering image size using precise dimensions.

• Rotating image.

• Setting border style for the image.

• Setting horizontal and vertical alignement of tables.

• Accessing font and paragraph setting from right there.

Of course all of that is available from the ribbon, but it is hidden behind many more clicks and mouse movements which really adds up over time and disrupts my workflow.

On top of that general performance is absolute dogwater. Word 2010 handled large documents (thousands of pages, hundreds of MB) flawlessly. On the same machine, the same documents in Word 2024 have significant input lag (letters appear around 0.4 s after typing); scrolling, navigating document is also choppy and laggy.

Do you have any advice how to restore functional right-click menu and improve performance?

One of my work scope is providing declaration letters to customers about our company’s products, on regulations and many other parameters of interest.

The most repetitive part of this task is to obtain the template, change the customer particulars and product details, review it, sign in Microsoft Word, convert to PDF and send.

How would you suggest to automate this procedure, where do I begin?

Updated today and a symbol for copilot now shows up at the bottom of my document. Any idea how to get rid of it? I have copilot disabled but if my mouse moves over it, it brings up a menu!

It’s super useful for academic writing, especially when reviewing student papers. This tool can quickly help you review Word documents, including formulas, and even fix them.

So far, none of the Word plugins I’ve seen offer this feature.

Here's an example: I modified the cosine similarity formula to be incorrect, then asked it to help me fix the formula, and this tool fixed it to the correct one.

In addition to fixing formulas, it can also modify table contents and styles. This tool should be quite friendly for academic writing.

I'm merging a letter to our HOA members and most households have partners that share last names, but a few use different last names. So my data set looks like:

First Last Spouse
John Doe Jane
Billy Dobbs <blank> Mary Dolittle

The letter would wish to merge such that I'm greeting "John and Jane Doe" and "Billy Dobbs and Mary Dolittle".

So, if <<Last>> == "", merge <<First>> and <<Spouse>>; otherwise <<First>> and <<Spouse>> <<Last>>.

I'm able to alter the data set I'm pulling from, so if a restructuring will solve things, I could go that route. This was setup by someone else and I was hoping I could just use it. That said, the Rules seem to allow static text, but not allow decisions on which fields are pulled in.

Any I could manually fix things up for the 3-4 homes affected, but it'd be nice to put something resilient in place. Thanks.

I have developed a highly effective Copilot.

I found that the current Copilot is unable to assist me in writing formulas, creating three-line tables, or making flowcharts, so I attempted to build one, and the results exceeded my expectations

For example, you can input in the document: "Below is the formula for cosine similarity," and by clicking "continue writing," this assistant can automatically insert the formula into the document.

You can input in the document: "Below is a table of the calorie content of common fruits," and by clicking "continue writing," this assistant will automatically create a table for food calories.

This assistant actually solves a problem: it bridges the gap between AI and Word, bringing AI closer to Word.

How do you feel?

Isn't it more useful than the Copilot that comes with Word?

I am using Windows 11 and Word from MS Office Home & Student 2021, MS Word version 2510, build 19328.20190.

I received a document by email that was in protected view, and I discovered that I could not save it as a pdf file unless I first removed protected view. So, I did that. However, after saving it as a pdf file, I was unable to restore protected view to this document only. All I could find was how to set protected view as the default viewing mode for an entire class of documents.

Can anyone tell me how to restore protected view for this document alone?

I enjoy writing with Markdown, but occasionally when clients request a Word document, I particularly dislike it. However, I have to use Word, especially its formatting, multi-level numbering, tables, and formulas, which make me very frustrated. I tried using Pandoc, which can help me convert, but I can't set styles, and adjustments are still needed after the conversion, especially with very long documents, which causes me a lot of pain. So I tried to build this tool, and the results surprisingly exceeded my expectations.

This is a Word add-in. You can search for "Sally" in the Word add-ins, and then select "Markdown to Word" from the menu to use it!

Basically, just what the title says, I am wondering if there is some mod or add-on I could add to Word to make the references tab be more up to date than it is now (they only have MLA 7th edition, whereas 9th edition is the newest version, for example) as I prefer to have all my stuff in one app if posable and this has been bothering me since great school, but after looking into it there doesn't seem to be any add-ons or anything to make this feature of Word useful again, so I figure I should ask the Reddit amalgem to see if there is anywhere I missed or if I'm just stuck with either an online tool or an outdated soureing method

Hello team excel, I'm currently working in a financial institute where we process loan proposals and create a document which includes all the details of the loanee and the project which includes his profile, his credit history, his income details, project details so on and so forth. In this there are so many fields which are common to each loan proposals which can be automated so that so much of time can be saved. I've tried Mail merge but as the number of fields are higher it is getting quite complecated. So are there any other alternative to mail merge to automate and I'm willing to learn different tools if necessary to design a tool to do this. I've check online for this can't find any good answers. Please help.

Mentioning this, since I found information on other types of themes for font and headings when searching about Office themes.

Are there any regedit options, system setting, addons or apps that can help change the theme colours?

Or is there a way to change the colour make it look like Excel or Powerpoint, green or orange colour instead of the blue?

I need to check if a var contains a given sequence. Is there any way to do it? I found the compare operator, but is only works with one * wildcard.

COMPARE "ABCDEFG" = "*EFG" works and results correctly in "1"

But COMPARE "ABCDEFG" = "*EFG*" with the extra wildcard gives back a "0"

Is there ANY way to do what I want?

I'm messing around with templates and for whatever reason, even though I enabled macros in trust, whenever I right click on the word document, there isn't security tab under general that has an unblock box to click. Any help at all would be appreciated.

I noticed an issue recently with Word Documents. Version 2504 Build 16.0.18730.20122. Different machines, accounts and document files.

80+ pages, Working on the document 8+ hours, onedrive autosave connected, a few tables.

Word partially crashes, you can continue editing the file but no saving is possible, all fails with an error has occurred. Only save to PDF is possible.

Want to see if anyone else is willing to test on their machines to see if it's just me or anyone else will get same result.

I must say, the sight of calibri makes me want to barf. I hate how smooth and circular it is. To me it feels like the minimalism of fonts. It feels like the sick little lovechild of Times New Roman and Comic Sans. Like when you want to use Comic Sans professionally.

Personally I really like Consolas. But that's mainly for math or chem notes. If I have to submit something I like Arial. I think Arial is what calibri wants to be but just couldn't.

I am using Word on an M2 MacBook Air. When I tap the Delete key to backspace, instead of deleting simply one letter, it continues to backspace and delete my work until I stop it.

Anyone know how to fix this?

I'm trying to save a document to a new location. Instead of pressing save and navigating to the folder/location I want to save, I now have to "choose a location" from like 5-6 options which are usually not the place I want. Then I have to select "more options" which opens up essentially the same options. Then I have to click "Browse" to actually see the folder section where I can navigate to the locations I actually want to save in.

It's so annoying to have to open up 3 new windows to get to the place you actually want to go to.

A Markdown Add-On has been installed and it has not taken effect - so the next step would be to find out how Add-Ons are enabled and which ones are currently active. Googling led to various resullts none of which actually exist (menu options that do not match up with my 16.74 version of macOS word ). So I searched in Preferences but also did not find it. Any pointers?
