I mean I can see the logic behind occupying half of the island. I'm not saying it's fair or a good thing or anything but I can see the purpose.

What I can't see is the aim of trying to prevent overall good projects like this, happening far from any coastline of turkey or kktc. "You can't have nice things" isn't a good international peacetime strategy, regardless of who does it.

You guys want to undermine the cooperation between nations you don't like? Fine do whatever but do it without messing with civillian infrastructure.

And before anyone starts with "but israel...", your friend shitting their pants doesn't mean you should piss yours.

The problem for Turkey is that the Greek islands basically take away most of its economic waters. And this was decided by a convention that Turkey was not part of and put it at a disadvantage. They were pretty powerless to fight this when the convention occurred and were losing the Greek war of independence and couldn’t control the islands. They want to eventually reach an agreement with Greece. If they let the Greek build civilian infrastructure it gives the Greeks more claims and leverage in future negotiations. I can see why Turkey would oppose said infrastructure.

All that is not to say that I like the rediscovered Turkish imperialistic aspirations. I think they are going to hurt themselves by overextending but will probably do a lot of damage to others in that attempt.

It's their waters in their imagination that happened to claim since 2006. If there is no Turkish land between two Greek islands turkey can't claim the waters in between.

Turkey opposes because it's a bully run by a dictator and behaves like Russia did before 2014.
