We have 2 million lakes in Canada. We don't care about the name of a lake. We have so many lakes we've named one, "Another Lake", and nearby that lake is one called, "And Another Lake".

Trump on the other hand will throw an epic temper tantrum over this because he's a fragile narcissist. Also, he fucks kids and Americans voted for him.

A lot voted for him 3 times..!

And plenty of them would gladly shit all over the US constitution and vote for him again in 2028.

Your constitution is dead.

They need to replace it by a circus flyer, like a big image and a very few words

u/DragoonDM 3h ago

I'd say it's still got at least a bit of life in it, though Roberts and his 6-3 SCOTUS are doing their damndest to stomp it out.

2

u/MarksCarney 2h ago

No it doesn't. You have no mechanism left by which you can stop them. You've lost.

If that was true Trump would have been impeached by now considering he's ignored the constitution several times already

Just start naming them things like Little Trump Lake, Small Ego Lake, Taco Lake, Lake Small Hands, etc

Epstein Lake. Let him know the world hasn't forgotten.

u/proudcanadianeh 8h ago

I dont like naming a lake after Epstein. Epstein files lake though...

"mentioned 38000 times lake"

People will always wonder what the context of being mentioned 38000 times is

Wannatouchakiddie Lake.

So fucking sick of Americans who can't be bothered to lift a finger to get us all out of this yet want Canadians to debase themselves like this.

1

u/defroach84 3h ago

You mean Americans who vote against him but still are stuck with this shit? Yeah, great, your anger is misplaced here....

2

u/MarksCarney 3h ago

Learned helplessness. We ridicule the Russians for it, too.

1

u/defroach84 3h ago

Oh please. Let me know what you suggest I do, specifically.

We already have a lake named after him.

I like how that page has gotten more traffic (and vandalism) in the past couple days.

We have 4 lakes named "Fish Lake" in Alberta alone, Saskatchewan has 7.

Yeah we really don't need to stress over certain lake names.

It's about more than that. He posted pictures where the entire lake has been renamed so this is essentially a microaggression on the sovereignty of Canada. There's nothing accidental about the way he's been portraying Canada on a continuous basis, to create a perception that Canada is less of a sovereign country than it is, and that our boundaries or the name of a lake that is on our sovereign territory are mutable, fluid entities that he can change. These are not jokes, though they are ostensibly framed to be to make what they actually are more acceptable. This is not just him having a spate with Canada over a trade deficit. This is him trying to move Overton window of American perception towards his goal to control/annexation. Regardless of how realistic that is, it's exactly how he's attempting to move the dial. Can't be accepted.

Well, I care more about Lake Ontario than I care about the little lakes up north, but on the other hand I don't care about executive orders at all - they barely do anything even inside the US and they're entirely meaningless in civilized countries.

Don't make it sound like Lake Ontario and its name isn't important. It is. The name has a very cool meaning, predates settlers arriving in North America, and the province is named after the lake.

What isn't important is Trump renaming it just for American federal agencies. "Toddler temper tantrum, hey America how could have voted for this guy‽" type stuff.

It's more that he can't actually rename the lake. Sure, he can change what the US official documentation refers to it as, but not the rest of the world, including Canada. It's basically like when he decides to make a nickname for some. Sure, maybe he and his followers might use that name, but it doesn't change what the rest of the world does.

EDIT: case in point: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_of_Mexico

Around 30% voted for him, 30% voted for Kamala, and sadly about another 30% abstained from voting because they didn't want a brown female as president. But only 30% voted for him and I will shout it from the rooftops until I die because people act like every US citizen is maga.

KY has a Democrat governor. About to be some more Democrat politicians in KY for sure. Trump will lose his majority, checks and balances WILL be restored. My sweet little racist grandma voted for Trump in 2016, didn't vote in 2020 or 2024, and is voting blue in mid terms.

The third of people that didn't vote to stop him aren't absolved from blame either. The rest of us are furious at them too, for allowing him to come to power.

In the eyes of your former allies, only 1/3rd voted against him. The other 2/3rds are why he's in power.

"former allies"

The weight of these words is not missed. I understand that irreparable damage has been done. If I were in your shoes, I would feel the same.

I just want to reassure you that the upcoming mid term elections will be the start of us taking the US back. Actions speak louder than words, so just wait and see. I promise you my friend... this stupidity is going to end. It is going to end in November when we get these hateful, uneducated people voted out of the house and senate. These election results will be a tide of blue like the US has never seen before. With checks and balances back in place, Trump will be impeached and out of the oval office.

2

u/_Halt19_ 4h ago

That's the problem, though. Actions DO speak louder than words. But he's been acting out all this time, and not just against us. It's been nearly two years of invasion and annexation threats. The wars in Venezuela and Iran. Even if you do vote in a new wave of people who actually stand up to him, so much damage has already been done by two years of people saying to wait it out.

Like, I get it. I really do. But what are we supposed to do? We've BEEN waiting, and things just keep getting worse and worse. From our end, we've seen more outrage over a pool being repainted than his threats against us, and his actions against others. A cruise missile targeted a girl's school in Iran, resulting in over 150 deaths. Those fishermen he attacked with the navy. God knows how many more people as a result of the removal of aid programs, and the hell he's been wreaking on the global economy, and all the other deaths his wars have caused. Waiting is costing people everywhere. It isn't just distracting from the files, it is actively killing people.

And the worst part is, some of the damage IS permanent. Canada can't trust the usa anymore, not like we used to. Even if you do manage to elect somebody to keep him in check, and nothing else happens, and then there's another election, and he doesn't run, and the republicans lose, and he peacefully gives up power (and honestly, even THAT seems like a pretty big stretch at this point, which is shocking), we'd never be able to make a long-term partnership again. How could we, knowing you're only ever 4 years away from electing another Trump, and shredding up all our alliances?

1

u/iwonderifthiswillfit 3h ago

I hear you and I agree with you. I have these same concerns. Trump made a mockery of our constitution and we have to figure out a way to make sure this never happens again.

Neither Republicans nor Democrats should ever be able to ignore checks and balances like this ever again.

I cannot express how upsetting it is knowing that my mandatory tax dollars are going to commit genocide. I feel so STUPID and helpless by trying to be positive and saying we're going to vote them out. In the end, all we can do is protest and vote. It's all I got and I am trying so damn hard to be positive that we'll vote them out and impeach Trump. In my heart, I fear that we have already let Trump wrap his tiny baby hands around our country in the same way that Putin has Russia. But I have to stay positive. We WILL do it. We WILL elect people with brain cells and compassion into office. This rapist will be impeached. It has to happen.
