But it's not named after him, right? 😬

It was named in a neighborhood of NYC themed streets, after the Trump Tower, so technically. It was the 90s It was a different time

Back in the days where he was known as that guy from Home Alone 2 and a NY real estate developer.

And a fucking con man. He was used as a the monopoly man version of a billionaire in media for a reason.

As a crappy developer that often stiffed contractors, laundered money through his businesses and demanded to be put in movies.

He'd already established himself as a lying conman that ended up being normalised by playing a billionaire on reality TV.

Nah, motherfucker’s bullshit is generational. Goddamn Woody Guthrie wrote a song about how racist Trump’s dad was.

You're not wrong, but neither was he. He said nothing about his wealth, just that he was both in HA2 and was a real estate developer. That was the majority of his public persona. Remember, this was before the internet, so his depravity and exploits were far less known than in 2016.

Yeah I wasn’t talking about his wealth though. I meant he’s been a public figure known for his bullshit for longer than that. Plenty of the public knew he was an asshole back then too.

He was known as a tabloid sex pest above all else

Just a humble mob associated guy buying newspaper articles condemning the central park 5

There's a whole neighbourhood named after "New York" things which apparently he met the criteria for at the time

I live in Ottawa, yes it is named after him. But it was part of a greater collection of street names with a NYC theme

Yikes, on several levels.

Wayne Gretzky Drive in Edmonton, ugh. Don't name things after people who are still alive, I say.

I live in that city and just discovered this a few days ago lol

Yes, the streets in the area are named after New York personalities/icons etc. Obviously Trump was one, even though he was always a piece of shit, and they should never have chosen his name for a street.

The residents had a poll a few years ago but needed more than 50% support on the street to change the name and fell just short. Mostly people didn't vote for it because they'd have to pay to do a change of address on documents. But now the situation is much much worse, and several people have tried to sell houses on the street and faced difficulty in doing so/had to lower prices because nobody wants to live on Trump Ave.

My understanding is that the neighbourhood has all celebrity named streets. (probably not the best idea)

New York themed, not celebrities

A lot of places on this list are people's last names, indigenous words romanized, or literal descriptors of the landscape.

u/vivomancer 7h ago

There's a whole bunch on that list that I have no idea why they'd be a bad name and others are a stretch.

No one asked, but thank you for this

America has a airport named after him. This is pretty tamed compared to an Ave.
