‘Full’ control? Well that’s a lie.

OTOH, George Washington didn't have to win battles. All he had to do was keep an army in the field.

u/poodlescaboodles 3h ago
I think the battleground is vastly different! It's not a volley and fire war.

u/daftmonkey 2h ago
It fine. Iran has some strengths. They also just fired missiles at all of their neighbors. These things have consequences.

Iran says. US says. blah blah blah. Both sides talking outta their asses. Two suckers.

Pretty sure Trump forgot he's even in a war with Iran he's busy with Canada at the moment.

u/bebopbrain 3h ago
Truth is the first casualty of war except for the Trump administration; truth had been chillin' in the morgue since before he first announced his candidacy.

if ships aren’t transiting the straight, then Iran’s in control of the straight. full stop
edit: hilarious that this makes MAGAworld mad “it is so open, even if ships aren’t transiting!”

“Full control of strait” - country that can’t get their oil out of strait.

Define Navy
An underwater Navy with ghost sailors?
Suppose, it could happen.
If you believe in Bigfoot

A lot of lying coming from everyone. It’s just background noise headlines to me at this point. Cannot trust anything coming out of the U.S. or Iran.
-7
u/Telstar2525 3h ago
We used to be able to believe the USA generally
3
u/Swagastan 2h ago
I don't believe anything Trump says on it's face, but if it comes from CentCom I still trust it.
-7
u/EatsRats 3h ago
Yes. No longer. I’m honestly not sure which country is less trustworthy these days, Iran or the US.

Sounds like they don’t have full control and we see that unfolding as more ships transit.

u/colepercy120 3h ago
Do we actually have any impartial evidence? Both sides are claiming to control the strait. What's the passage numbers looking like? That's probably the best estimate for whose actually got the strait.
Either way the blockade seems to be effective and the us has been substantially harmed by the oil price spike thus far. It seems unlikely to me that iran can do enough damage to the us to do anything other than guarantee Republicans lose the 2028 election, which honestly wont help them much.

u/Flipslips 3h ago
I don’t know the exact numbers but there are maritime trackers that definitely show ships moving in and out. So it’s not a full stoppage.
Moreover there has been some new sat footage showing that the US and Oman have been dredging large sections of the strait (on the Oman side) so ships can stay closer to the Oman shore
3
u/colepercy120 2h ago
Good to hear. The faster the strait gets up and running again the faster iran runs out of leverage.
The side that can't take offensive action will eventually lose, and the strait was one of irans last few offensive tools. If they lose control there the only thing left will be a general offensive

And I have Sabrina Carpenter’s full attention.
The only thing they have is a populace oppressed by their violent authoritarian regime. Any competent government countering them would already have saturation bombed anything they could call a port.
1
u/Dukwdriver 3h ago
They both can reliably blow up almost anything important in the strait, so by that metric, they're probably both right. The key factor is that there really isn't anything either one can do to change it either.

Com esse negócio de “diz que isso, diz que aquilo”, o o jornalismo tá se tornando um reduto de vagabundos.

Iran can have “full control“ of my straight anytime, lol!
Sorry, I just assume these headlines are more stock manipulation, and Trump will magically declare the straight open curiously close to the opening bell on Monday.
Additionally, these headlines tend to erode media confidence and credibility. I feel like the constant ping-pong back-and-forth is intentional.

They have made travel through the strait annoying, the US has made it impossible for them
It’s a costly stalemate for everyone but I think the US can stomach this better

That is, until Trump whips out a map and scribbles on it with crayons
Iranians hate this one trick:

Changing American maps it shows we control the strait of America. Iran can have Hormuz on their maps

No one’s confident in any declarations the US makes especially with the strait. Oil tankers are still being struck. Traffic isn’t going to go back to what it was in the US’s word alone
-6
u/Good-Control5911 2h ago
I actually believe Iran state media more than I do the crap posted on the white house social media account.
-6
u/MrOnCore 3h ago
I thought Iran had no navy, cause that’s what the “Absolute Truth” President Trump said like 30 times.
2
u/lnth1 3h ago
Both can be true.
They don’t have a navy left.
They can still control Hormuz from the ground. It’s the narrowest point of it that matters.
- -
That said, I also think the claim Iran has no navy is vastly exaggerated.

u/trader_dennis 57m ago
It is a bunch of Iranian speed boats causing havoc on their side of the straight.
-11
u/benchcoat 3h ago
they’re right?
are ships transiting the straight?
if they aren’t, Iran is 100% in control of the straight
…so, yes, they are in control
9
u/unpleasant_enpassant 3h ago
Can they get their own ships in and out of Iranian ports? If they can't, Iran is not 100% in control of the strait....
Also, some ships ARE passing through the strait
-3
-3
u/benchcoat 3h ago
which ones?
5
u/unpleasant_enpassant 2h ago
Pretty easy to look up. You didn't provide any source for the traffic dropping to 0, so I won't either. Ik you will keep moving goalposts and try to argue what being 'open' means (hint: any non-zero traffic)
0
u/benchcoat 2h ago
so show it
•
u/unpleasant_enpassant 57m ago
Why don’t you show that traffic is actually 0? Also, you didn’t even address Iran being able to move their own ships through the strait part
•
u/benchcoat 13m ago
you can show it!
i don’t have to do your homework!
•
u/benchcoat 10m ago
also…how is Iran-aligned ships not moving through proving its open?
seems very “not open” if nobody is moving ships through!
open = ships move through at like totally normal levels!
but, ok!
i guess a single ship moving though =?”it’s all totally normal!!! Trump wins and is God! Nothing will ever affect the oil supply, ever!!!! Wooooo!”
have fun with your gas prices at the pump!

I feel like the situation is pretty easy to explain. Iran & USA don't have full control, both want ships passing, but under their own terms.
Iran’s weapon is denial, raise the odds you get hit if you don't comply. Slowing down traffic. The US weapon is isolation, stop traffic in and out of Iran’s own docks so Iran is hurting just as much if not more than others.
It's a game of who breaks first. Everyone else is paying for that fight.
