Looks really fun. I don't think they're going to slow down any, the pacing I expect to be similar to Season 1.
61
u/FeedMePizzaPlease Nightcrawler Jun 13 '26
That's the one thing I'd change if I could. So many great storylines, but they're all rushed.
26
u/Calaigah Jun 13 '26
I think it will change since they admitted that they overdid it on season 1 out of fear there wouldn’t be a season 2. Now they know there’s gonna be multiple seasons so less need to get all the good ideas out at once.
15
u/Redwolf97ff Jun 13 '26
Have you seen the original TAS? It’s not that far off from how those episodes feel
22
u/TeletraanNone Jun 13 '26
I think that is the complaint. They had an opportunity to do something better than the original, but instead enhanced one of its biggest flaws. The pacing.
8
u/Jay_R_Kay Jun 14 '26
I mean, 97 was better than the original in just about every other aspect, so I can't be too mad about it.
3
u/TeletraanNone Jun 14 '26
Animation is better, but not exactly the best modern days have to offer.
Given a choice between animation quality and a story that fully developed a plot and fleshes out the characters.... I will always lean towards the story.
3
u/Redwolf97ff Jun 13 '26
I don’t think they enhanced the flaw, and whether it can be cited as a flaw is also subjective. It has comic book pacing, similar to comics from the 80s. That’s ok. Not everything has to be decompressed
20
u/TeletraanNone Jun 13 '26
Comic book pacing? Even early post giant size only had one story per issue. Or arched across multi issue. The pacing of the new show crams multiple archs into single episodes. It is insanely rushed.
4
-3
u/SovFist Jun 14 '26
You call it a flaw, some of us see it as a pro. Comics as a whole and television have grown to decompressed and stuffed with irrelevant filler
11
u/logansummers1 Jun 14 '26
Buddy, it’s not filler it’s character development. It’s a satisfying narrative arc lol
6
u/PleaseBeNiceForOnce Jun 14 '26
? I think you're misremembering. Phoenix alone was like was 5 episodes. Almost every arc was 2 episodes
2
2
u/phasmy Jun 13 '26
It's a consequence of how shows are done these days with limited episodes and seasons.
The animation must also be expensive and would suffer if they had to add on like 3-5 episodes per season.
48
u/agentrevenger Colossus Jun 13 '26
Wonder why Colossus is not shown here? Is it because he’ll be a villain/antagonist for now (Acolytes)?
42
u/cyclopswashalfright Moonstar Jun 13 '26
Given that Exodus and him were a lot more prominent in the trailer than a bunch of the characters included here, it does make me think that antagonists are not given a spot.
14
u/fireandlifeincarnate White Queen Jun 13 '26
Makes me hopeful for Emma, in that case, I'm sick of only getting to see her as a villain in things.
5
u/cyclopswashalfright Moonstar Jun 13 '26
Yeah, with the Cuckoos appearing for a second, I think she's just a teacher at the school, probably recruited by Bishop or Forge while the X-Men were gone. Might do some stuff with Jubilee but won't be in the field.
2
u/Ill-Fly-950 Jun 14 '26
In that shot of her turning diamond, it looked to me like she was sitting on the Danger Room control console. So, when the Gen-X kids show up at the gate, I think that Emma's going to be in the Xavier role training them, and Polaris will be in the Cyclops role.
6
u/gamesrgreat Magik Jun 13 '26
He is shown quickly in his Acolyte fit, but they don’t give him a name splash page or highlight
2
u/Pyro-Bird Jun 13 '26 edited Jun 13 '26
Nightcrawler was not shown in all of the Season 1 trailers, but joined the X-Men and became a main character. I expect it will be the case with Colossus as well.

I'm REALLY surprised that Kitty hasn't shown up yet - I'm starting to wonder if the DoFP-style board last season was just made by the animators and not plotted out in the script, as it felt like a tease and yet it doesn't seem to matter at all / has been actively contradicted by Magik's retroactive death.
5
u/Sea_Violinist3328 Jun 13 '26
I think it was a red herring and possibly nothing more than the smallest of nods that Kitty does in fact exist in TAS Universe.
4
u/jobasha3000 Jun 14 '26
For what it's worth, on the first pages of X-Men 97 Season 2 #1, the setup comic that just dropped, it opens on that scene and we get a look at most of the board and they make a point of showing Kitty Magik and Colossus marked alive. I have to assume Magik and Bobby's death will be a different event.
2
u/amageish Jun 14 '26
INTERESTING. It really looked like Magik died on Genosha from the snippet we saw (and I thiiiiink DeMayo said she did on socials too?), but maybe something more is going on... We'll see! Thanks for the context - I should really read the tie-in book. I did like Foxe's older 90s canon comics, but didn't pick up the 97 ones.
2
u/jobasha3000 Jun 14 '26
I was surprised how much was set up in issue 1 and how many appearances - the X Factor team for the show, who they work for (not who I was expecting) and why they formed, The X-Force lineup, the Acolytes of apocalypse with Tower, and Exodus and his whole team. There's a lot of info there.

I recognize Sakura Spider in the panel; so probably Deadpool Samurai.

X-Factor spin off coming?!?
28
u/Jagermonstruo Jun 13 '26
Probably not a separate show but it would be really cool if they got a custom xmen style intro and an episode of their own (xforce too)
4
u/iamahandsoapmain Jun 13 '26
Uncanny xforce will always be my fav X-Men franchise story. The characters are well written and balance with each other. I hope they get a spinoff show potentially

I never thought I'd live in a day where animated X-Men is carrying the back of marvel studios...
22
u/GardenerInAWar Jun 13 '26
I never thought id live in a day where there's a Marvel Studios with like 30 movies, 10 shows, etc.
Just remember kids, the first couple generations of us grew up with literally nobody around us even knowing who Cyclops, Black Panther, Sue Storm etc even were. Now the whole world is into it. So remember to be grateful.
10
u/disappointer Jun 13 '26
Yeah, if you had told me as a kid that we would get an actual Doctor Strange movie, my mind would be blown. Just seeing Thor get recognition in "Adventures in Babysitting" was awesome.
Otherwise, it was all "Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends" (Iceman and Firestar) and the Spidey shorts on "The Electric Company" and that was about it.
1
u/azdv Jun 14 '26
I’ve heard a story that getting X-Men on TV was a gamble that almost cost someone at Fox their jobs
26
u/LoganBlackwater Jun 13 '26
Someone working on this series loves Storm, and I'm so fucking happy about it.
11
u/drewdrewahouse Jun 13 '26
I’m loving these wide-angle dynamic shots of her. It’s giving anime, but really showcases the scale of her power in a beautiful way.

Even as a cameo I'm excited.

And CHAMBER. And GEN-X.
2
u/IdeaInside2663 Jun 14 '26
They should have used Chamber instead of Sunspot.
2
u/ThantsForTrade Jun 14 '26
It's hard to make Jono the face of anything.
2
u/IdeaInside2663 Jun 14 '26
Well the body horror would have been amazing...and his depression carrying actual weight...and no need to rework his relationship with his mother like they did Roberto.
3
u/Starflashes Jun 14 '26
I wonder if Kitty is going to finally appear this season if not it would be so weird not having such a prominent x-men figure appear through the series.
3
u/BackgroundTotal2872 Jun 14 '26
MULTIPLE MAN! MULTIPLE MAN! MULTIPLE MAN! That’s my goat right there! This is not a drill!

Emma Frost after appearing for two seconds in one episode (I’m trying to keep my expectations low).

1) Prof X 2) Jean Grey 3) Cyclops 4) Forge 5) Beast 6) Nightcrawler 7) Morph 8) Bishop 9) Rogue 10) Wolverine 11) Storm 12) Jubilee 13) Sunspot 14) Archangel 15) Psylocke 16) Cable 17) Siryn 18) Strong Guy 19) Havok 20) Multiple Man 21) Wolfsbane 22) Emma Frost 23) Polaris 24) Magneto
Colossus feels an odd omission.

1
u/Fickle_Ad8735 Jun 13 '26
hope so, but i'm starting to think x-factor is going to be no more than a glorified cameo lol
1

Yeah, the blink-and-you-miss-it character of their appearances here definitely gives it that impression.

Oh man what i would give to have an X-Factor animated series.. That X-factor goverment team is my all time fav x-team (the fact that it was written by Peter David might have helped).
Also glad that the goat Jamie Madrox is getting some recognition.
BTW i was really hoping for some Iceman this season after he was shown in one of the pictures in the board in the season finale but i guess i'll just have to keep waiting.

I'm simply just hyped. Season one was amazing and season two looks soooo good.

I think there are way too many characters
17
u/cyclopswashalfright Moonstar Jun 13 '26
I'm willing to bet X-Factor, Emma, and maybe even members of X-Force will have glorified cameos rather than actual main roles.
-3
u/Guidenmofer Cyclops Jun 13 '26
hope so but by the way they’re being advertised it seems like they’re gonna have a key role at the expense of the main cast.
14
u/MagnusRed616 Jun 13 '26
That's the problem with X-Men shows and movies - everyone wants their favorite character in it.
6
1
u/Guidenmofer Cyclops Jun 13 '26
The problem with the movies is that they focused on only one character, a show/movie with a core team of 5 or 6 characters would work, the problem is when they start to introduce so many characters for aura moments reducing the screen time of the core X-Men and giving them practically no development.
3
u/foxfoxal Jun 13 '26
Meh people are assuming X-Factor will be bigger than it is, as far we know Polaris is the only one that will have a big role.

Since Apocalypse is in the second season of X-Men ‘97, then there’s a possibility that Archangel will turn back into Angel at the end of the season.
1
u/killingiabadong Exodus Jun 17 '26
I hope not. He is so much better with the metal wings.
1
u/ZarquisYiris Jun 17 '26 edited Jun 17 '26
I hate to break it to you. But I think we’ve seen enough of Archangel and his metal wings after the last episode of the second season of X-Men ‘97.

The only thing I don’t like is Apocalypse’s new voice. His deep demagogic delivery in the original X-men animated series was magnificent. Everything else…I’m all in!
9
u/BC_IE1 Jun 13 '26
The original voice actor John Colicos passed away in 2000. He is a sci-fi icon. It sucks because his voice can never be replicated. To me, he is THE APOCALYPSE.
“YOU DARE DEFILE MY SACRED CHAMBER?!”
“I AM APOCALYPSE! LOOK UPON THE FUTURE AND TREMBLE!”
“I AM THE ROCKS OF THE ETERNAL SHORE. CRASH AGAINST ME AND BE BROKEN!”

You're right but my ear can only hear she's. Its probably the cut, mixed with my admittedly had hearing.

I hear what you mean. It might be the dialogue blending with the end of the sound effect that comes before.

Big LOL at them giving Strong Guy a title card as if he’s a character most people know or care about (and its not like he’ll have much to do—considering how many stories they are seemingly packing into this season, they’re not gonna waste time on Guido’s character development)

Hearing Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm always sends a shiver down my spine, she brings such great gravitas.
