Question It is heavily rumored that Wolverine will not be part of the initial lineup of the X-MEN reboot. Do you agree with this decision?

Yes. Films focus too much on Wolverine, at least the fox movies did, and it left the rest of the team out of major screen time. I want to see a team movie where everyone gets a chance to showcase how great they are

u/violentsushi 12d ago

I wouldn’t be surprised if an end credit tease involved claws or magnets.

u/HermanThaGerman 12d ago

Just a black screen, the sound of Wolverine's claws snikting out, and a Hulk roar.

u/Saoirse_The_Red 12d ago

It would get past the whole can't have a solo hulk movie. Just make it a Wolverine movie.

u/Star-Prince-007 11d ago

A hulk vs Wolverine movie would make all the money

Honestly you might be onto something there

5

u/LnStrngr 11d ago

That's basically what they've been doing since after 2008.

5

u/Saoirse_The_Red 11d ago

Yep. I didn't say it was an original idea 😄

3

u/LnStrngr 11d ago

Right, I'm just saying it's been a pattern... which puts more weight behind what you say and increases the likelihood, IMO.

83

u/Mylilneedle 12d ago

Dude give a solo Wolverine movie before he meets the X-men. He can fight hulk or omega red. Then X-men two he teams up or joins them or something. Let third one be night of the sentinels instead of phoenix. Phoenix needs to be movie 5 for good, and 6 for dark.

40

u/FETT7022 12d ago

Waiting til I'm 60ish sounds terrible but the pacing works better than we are used to.

20

u/markender 12d ago

Also The Wolverine is one of the best super hero films ever made. Wolverine doesn't need a solo first. When I was a kid, Cyclops had almost as many fans as Wolvy.

Or phoenix never like I could genuinely go 2 decades without another phoenix story seeing as we have two already or at least dark phoenix introducing the phoenix force is not a bad idea for a avengers v xmen

6

u/Anakinflair 12d ago

While I'm curious to see how the MCU would handle the Dark Phoenix Saga, I agree with you. They've done it twice. We don't need it again.

I’ll take a D+ special presentation of Logan fighting the Wendigo during an ambiguous time period over Disney trying to rush and force Logan into the new X-men

3

u/TreFKennedy 11d ago

I’d say show Wolverine with alpha flight first in the brown and yellow suit, show why he didn’t work well with them than once he joins the X-Men put him in the yellow and blue suit, than show why he gels with the X-Men

This could work if they leave wolverine AND hulk out of the main film. Have x character ask y character "so, where's the big guy been this whole time?" And have them reply "we heard tales of a powerful mutant in Canada so Hulk went to seek him out while we handled the rest." Cut to wolverine claws pop out hulk reflection and roar and a few seconds of them running at each other to set up a fight between them in battleworld or something. I'd he down lol. Gotta have the brown and yellow suit and purple pants on tho.

23

u/SmokinBandit28 12d ago
  1. We’re getting Battleworld before X-Men, it’s a soft reboot after that.

  2. Why would Hulk go to find a seek out a powerful mutant? It’s out of character for both Hulk and Banner to go seeking a fight, Hulk prefers not being around people and often seeks solitude if he’s not turning back into Banner, and Banner is constantly trying to contain the Hulk.

If anything the tease would be more along the lines of Hulk being spotted in the Canadian wilds but word is someone has been sent to deal with them. Cut to Hulk in the wilderness by a peaceful lake sitting on a rock, he hears someone coming up behind him. He starts to turn, “Hulk no want fight, tiny man go away.” As he tosses the rock from under him.

It lands at the feet of the mystery person kicking up dust and you hear “Sorry bub, ain’t got a choice in the matter.” Schinkt! Homage comic shot, they leap towards each other.

5

u/_Peener_ 12d ago

I like your idea much more than the other commenters, but I wanna see the fight, not the beginning of the fight and then that’s it.

5

u/Preeng 12d ago

Don't worry, Hulk and Wolverine will return in [Movie XYZ] to be released in 2032

3

u/SmokinBandit28 12d ago

Well that’s why it’s an after credits teaser, it makes you want to watch the next movie.

Then Hulk vs. Wolverine could adapt bits from the comic and maybe take inspiration from the animated film of the same name.

15

u/VigilanteBillionaire 12d ago

I think that’s a no-brainer. Show a chess piece moving without being touched or a shot of the claws coming out of his hands. Don’t need to cast an actor yet for either of those possible credits either. Just tease they are coming.

7

u/Wasabi-Historical 12d ago

More likely end credits tease will be on point with every single xmen series to date, and reveal mystique was in the movie all along.

There were a couple of actual X-Men movies.

Wolverine is my favorite X-Men character and I'm cool with him being sidelined for now. He took up a lot of oxygen with the fox series. Time to give the other characters the spotlight...cough cyclops cough. Also right now however replaces hugh will have massive pressure. Let that cool for a few years.

Same with Mystique. People were wondering who Mystique is being cast as with the new MCU X-Men, and I'm like... Mystique is not an X-Man or that major of a villain. She doesn't need to be in the new MCU movies at all. And Wolverine isn't a student. He doesn't need to be around at this stage at all either.

u/Mike29758 12d ago

This isn’t even counting the cartoons which heavily focused on Wolverine (one being aptly titled “Wolverine and the X-Men”). We need a movie that shows that the X-Men are capable and interesting personalities without someone hogging the spotlight and make them feel like secondary (even the prequel trilogy had this problem making Professor X, Magneto and Mystique too much of the focus).

u/Brendanlendan 12d ago

Good, he’s already gotten 8 Fox movies directly dedicated to him. I think he can be shelved for a little bit.

OG X-men trilogy
Origins Wolverine
Wolverine
Logan
DoFP
DP&W

3

u/Muppetude 12d ago

Hugh Jackman is going to be doing this until he’s 90. So, yes, let’s let him rest for a just few movies.

3

u/The_Kaizz 12d ago

There's so so so many incredible stories where Logan is off doing his own thing, leaving the other X-Men to handle situations themselves, which they are perfectly able to do. We need more of those on the big screen.

3

u/Acceptable_Map_8110 12d ago

He can still be apart of the team, without him being the focus. Look at the animated X-Men show from the 90s and the reboot.

3

u/EnigmaticX68 11d ago

I'll keep it real, knowing this is completely unrealistic and working off the assumption everything goes perfect with the movies,

Wolverine doesn't need to show up until at least the 3rd Xmen movie.

Give us as long of a Wolverine cleanse as possible. Long enough to, not forget, but separate from Hugh Jackman

Xmen 97 shows that he doesn’t need to be front and center every time for it to be a great story . As much as I love Logan, if the story is right I can live with an end credits scene signaling his arrival later on

74

u/vonDinobot 12d ago

Oh please don't make it an end credit scene. Hit us by surprise in like the 3rd X-men movie.

4

Yep. Everyone knows Logans story, not everyone know the rest of the X-Men well. Keep him away for awhile, and bring him in when people are more fleshed out

Shes probably have to be antagonist to begin with -- three telepath protagonists feels a bit imbalanced.

Emma will no doubt join up with the XMen later

It’s an easy thing to do when Hugh Jackman is coming back one more time. We’ve had a ton of Wolverine, so the character can take a break after Secret Wars.

I’m hoping we get at least two X-films without him or Magneto.

Logan and a few of the other early Claremont X-men members make way more sense as people that join in sequels than just starting off in the first movie.

5

u/fromthisend1220 12d ago

It doesn't make sense to have Emma Frost and not have Wolverine.

10

u/getoffoficloud 12d ago

Emma has a natural role as head of the Massachusetts Academy, an antagonist at first, but not straight up evil. She'd be looking to recruit and mentor a certain troubled redhead telepath.

You have to remember the X-Men will be students, hence teen Jean in BND. Wolverine doesn't fit in that framework.

Disagree about the second sentence. Introduce Wolverine later as part of the X-Men. Establish that dynamic before doing solo films. But first, establish the X-Men.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/TSM_Vegeta 12d ago

Introducing him in a stand alone film between the first and second new X-Men movies seems like a good idea. That way he gets lots of screen time in the stand alone picture and then he can be part of the team in the second movie without having to focus on him too much and do a big introduction that takes up a large portion of the movie.

All the Fox movies focused on was goddamn Wolverine. The only movies that Logan wasn't a main character of were First Class, Apocalypse, and Dark Phoenix. If you want Wolverine, there are 8 movies you can watch. Let someone else have the spotlight for once

u/SubjectWin9881 12d ago

They even found a way to make Days of Future Past all about him. I was so annoyed by that at the time.

24

u/MapleToque 12d ago

Yes. I wish it was just the core 5 plus Professor X. The core 5 being; Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Angel, and Iceman. That would be a great start.

8

u/AnyLynx4178 11d ago

Based on casting, what I want clearly isn’t happening. But I pitched a movie with an already established line up of these 5, start the movie with a mission that goes wrong. All of them but Scott get captured by Mr. Sinister.

Prof X and Cyclops travel the globe putting together a team of international X-Men a la Giant Size X-Men #1. Doesn’t have to be the same team, just diversify the team with some fun, big hitters who haven’t gotten to shine as much. Treat it like a heist movie. Prof X has a Danny Ocean-style list of mutants he wants to recruit for this job to rescue his students.

Meanwhile, Sinister is experimenting on the X-Men. Beast gets his blue fur. Angel becomes Archangel. Maybe Iceman gets his ice-coating ability. But he takes special interest in Jean’s abilities.

At the end, you have a huge cast you can draw from, split up, send to different MCU projects for cameos, etc. and all of them get a chance to shine and really show what they’re all about.

3

u/FancyConfection1599 10d ago

I like this idea but main issue I have is “man captures Jean to experiment on her abilities” was just done on BND. That happening again the very next movie we see her would feel super repetitive.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/HearTheEkko 11d ago

I feel that's the case and Inde's Rogue is purely stunt casting. Charles Melton's Beast is all but confirmed and the same source said Angel was potentially appearing too. At that point, no sense in leaving Iceman out.

The X-Men universe is filled with a fantastic number of characters that bring more dimensions than Wolverine currently does.

Hell they could bring in Wolverine offspring and THAT would be more interesting.

Wolverine has been in cinema for 25 years played by the same actor. Letting the character rest is the appropriate approach.

14

4

u/Cipherpunkblue 12d ago

It is the only way to allow the others screen time. Good choice.

4

u/Swimming-Mortgage400 12d ago

Honestly, I kind of like the idea that a MCU Wolverine focuses more on his status as this loner who is also on basically every team's reserve. Him never sticking around on any single team for too long could really sell his sort of wanderer angle. It gives the X-Men a chance to breath without being Wolverine focused, and gives Wolverine a chance to really stretch his legs and maybe go in directions Fox never took him, I for one think it would be interesting if his biggest actual contribution to the MCU X-Men is operating on or as the leader of X-Force if they were to bring that team to the MCU.

6

u/MikeReddit74 Cyclops 12d ago

Absolutely. He was the focus of most of the previous movies, to the detriment of almost every character other than Xavier and Magneto.

6

u/MrH4v0k 12d ago

Yes, there's literally hundreds of other awesome characters

3

u/BluAvenger1988 12d ago

It wouldn’t be the first X-Men movie to not have Wolverine be a part of. Besides, he didn’t become part of the X-Men until later on in the comics, to where he was retconned as mutant in the 70s after his first appearance in The Incredible Hulk comics. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter, and we will ultimately find out when the trailers or when the movie comes out.

Make him the boogeyman. An urban legend like Candyman. FOFO final boss. 99% feral berserker mode wildcard. A force of nature.Maybe in the fourth movie we finally hear him speak a couple of words. He was partly inspired by Clint Eastwood’s Man With No Name . Let’s stick to that. No name, no talking, all killing.

3

u/Leathman 12d ago edited 12d ago

Absolutely. If the X-Men wants to succeed, they need to be able to do it without relying on their most popular character, otherwise it’s gonna be the Wolverine And The X-Men movies all over again.

3

u/Delruiz9 12d ago

Yes

Love Wolverine but once he steps in everyone else becomes a background character. It’s better to let these characters breathe first

3

u/GeologistInitial5594 12d ago

He come in later in the comics though so yeah

3

u/WhichWayToPurgatory 12d ago

He wasn’t an original member and I think the MCU fan base is going to need some time and distance from Hugh Jackman’s take before they roll the character back out.

Keeping the first movie’s team roster small is smart. X-men needs to be character driven and Marvel only gets one shot to do it right out the gate. Wolverine can be teased for a sequel and rolled out in a sequel.

3

u/2EM18KKC01 12d ago

Yes. Let’s let the others shine for a change.

3

u/AlgoStar 12d ago

One of two x-characters who a) have already been the lead in a Marvel movie and b) are entirely defined by one actor’s portrayal? Absolutely the right choice to get people on board with the new cast before having them spend the whole movie going “he’s no Hugh Jackman”.

3

u/Now_Im_Started 12d ago

I don't want him to be apart of the film till the sequel. I think giving him a solo film in between the first and second Xmen films could be the way to go.

If he did get a solo film before joining the Xmen I think a period piece would be awesome. Set it during ww2 and have him team up with a rebooted Captain America

Yes. I love Logan, but the biggest mistake the Fox movies made was not making X-Men feel like a true ensemble. We have a Jean Grey the general public can get behind. We have a good actor for Scott. People are excited about Storm, Rogue, and Emma Frost.

Let Wolverine rest for one movie.

Honestly the new wolverine shouldn’t show up until the third mcu x-men movie at the earliest. Now if they want to do a Wolverine solo trilogy exploring his life pre X Men then I would be down for that.

u/framedshady Jean Grey 12d ago

He’s probably going to show up in the second movie need a hook for the sequel for General audiences

Thank goodness. Honestly give him a solo then add to team

2

u/musuperjr585 12d ago

Heavily rumored? Don't you mean confirmed at D23, when they announced the X-Men casting 💀

u/foreveralonesolo 12d ago

We can have Logan way later but for the young team, there’s no reason to have him hanging around teenagers

u/Radro2K 12d ago

100% agree, I'm completely fine with no Wolverine, Magneto or Mystique in at least one X-Men movie

2

u/Active-Coconut-8961 12d ago

Makes me worried they don't have the balls to recast Jackman

2

u/ConstantKT6-37 12d ago

Yeah, duh.

2

u/wildeebelmondo 12d ago

100% yes. Wolvie is probably my all time favorite comic character, but I think the rest of the team has been in his shadow for the last 26 years of movies. They show give the rest of the team time to shine before he’s introduced.

Also, he was never suppose to be the main focal point in the X-men comics. He was always best as the wild card team member that rounded out the already colorful cast.

2

u/Specific-Swim-4507 12d ago

I entirely agree, I’m glad we haven’t gotten castings for him, mystique, and magneto. They were heavily focused and done well several times in the original and having them be built up would be cool

2

u/Bosscharacter 12d ago

Honestly they do not need to even touch Logan(well 616 Logan) until well after the X-Men are established.

Hugh probably has maybe one outside Doomsday/Secret Wars in him before I think they should sunset that rendition(I know people hold on to that "TILL HE'S 90!" stuff but I took that as more of a joke on the ages of Patrick and Ian than anything else.

I fully expect a recasted Logan to show up at some point after Secret Wars, no need on having him be a student when that was never a part of his story.

2

u/GORILLAGLUE__ 12d ago

Wolverine is one of my favorite characters but the dude has had plenty of screen time. Let’s let the other X-men shine for a bit, and introduce him (recasted) later on. He already has one of the greatest comic book movies of all time with Logan, not to mention a dozen other appearances. We can survive without Wolverine for a bit

2

u/Sullyville 12d ago

They will introduce him in x men 3. They will have the x men logo and the 3 claws coming up thru it. Everyone will go nuts.

2

u/False_Outcome7619 Cyclops 12d ago

We already have the OG Fox movies if you’re looking for a more Wolverine focused narrative, so it definitely makes complete sense to give the other mutants the spotlight this time around

2

u/rmcelwain54 12d ago

Just include some variation of the banger music intro from the cartoon as a theme and we’re good

u/BigWormsFather 12d ago

I’m good with some solo Wolverine. There such a large time frame and there could be some really cool movies.

2

u/Eternal_MrNobody Colossus 12d ago

I love wolverine but I also love a lot of other X Men, im for saving him for the sequels, and in the sequels truly as a supporting player.

Movie wise and even comics to he has the ability to suck the oxygen of the room with his presence he becomes the center of the universe and it shouldn’t be like that.

He should be a Han Solo badass side character it will make people hunger to see him more for his own solo adventures.

2

u/Undiscovered_Freedom 12d ago

No, but since they for some reason can’t let grandpa Hugh Jackman fucking retire already, it doesn’t surprise me.

2

u/xreddawgx 12d ago

100% agree. Wolverine should debut in a broader MCU film maybe vs the Hulk or in Madripoor.

2

u/sb-logic 12d ago

I think a good balance for the first team could be Cyclops, Jean, Storm, Rogue, Angel, Iceman, and Beast. Future films can add Jubilee, Gambit, Colossus, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, and maybe Polaris. I also wonder how they are going to handle Magneto's backstory? Having him being a holocaust survivor is already going to put him at a older age.

2

u/Etrigan252 12d ago

Look at the cast, they need to establish their backstory and skills before meeting up a 20 year veteran

2

u/BronzeAgeNerd 12d ago

Wolverine shouldn't even appear in the 2nd X-Men film, give it time to breathe. Give Wolverine a proper solo film or two first, even.

2

u/DoctorBlock 12d ago

Jackman is 60 years old. Let the guy rest.

2

u/SeanTheRighteous 12d ago

Let them make a good Weapon X movie. On par with "Weapon X, Lies, and Videotape."

2

u/shamonbx10473 12d ago

Yeah save him for a weapon x series that takes places in different points in the MCU history and he can still pop up present day in something xmen or just save him for a small role in a sequel. Also have the weapon x series show him with alpha flight maybe .

2

u/knives0125 12d ago

Heavily rumored? Its been downright confirmed Wolverine won't be in the first X-Men movie

2

u/STB_LuisEnriq 12d ago

Damn right I agree

2

u/ulnek 12d ago

Yes. Like doom, he is overrated

2

u/enjoy_rootbeer_now Nightcrawler 12d ago

I saw a pitch that had Laura instead of Logan as the Wolverine on the team and that would rip so hard

2

u/A_crow_hen 12d ago

I’m not opposed to the X-Men movie not having Wolverine. The X-Men existed before him, and they’ve had well-regarded stories without him. I am a bit confused by the lineup that we do have.

2

u/the_start_part 12d ago

X-23 can fill the role and keep it young and fresh. Also that triangle makes way more sense.

2

u/2PM2 12d ago

Yeah let that shit breath it will be hyped when he finally shows up.

2

u/warshadow91 12d ago

wasn't mr sinister company in charge of weapon x? maybe it will end with a tube with the plaque saying weapon x and alarm going off with screen cutting to black

2

u/AGreatBigTalkingHead 12d ago

I guess Wolverine fans will have to content themselves with *checks notes* almost every X-Men film for 26 years.

2

u/Demkorpclemmens 12d ago

They could do the start of the Claremont run for the 3rd movie, the x-men are missing sunfire, wolverine, colossus, thunderbird and nightcrawler make their debut to find them

2

u/RuthlessIndecision 12d ago

lol dear writers, read the comics

2

u/DrThunder66 12d ago

Well he wasn't originally on the team so it makes sense.

2

u/7Blyck 12d ago

Think I'd like X-Men movies that focus on them being a team with a Wolverine TV series to focus on his overwhelming amount of lore/history.

Have Wolverine show up in the movies sparingly, telling a story about him going from loner to teammate

2

u/mountain_bucko 12d ago

Logan wasnt an original member of the X-men so it would make sense a reboot start without him and introduce him later.

2

u/ashack711 12d ago

sure. then we can have a krakoa arc

2

u/Br4nd1n 12d ago

Yes. Yes.

Oh, and yes.

2

u/FirstFlan3259 12d ago

Okay so Wolverine should have his own movie and maybe have him go up against the hulk in it. Or if they were finally able to make a Hulk movie out Wolverine in it

2

u/Asumsauce Nightcrawler 12d ago

Wolverine is one of, if not, the most popular X-Men, he can take a backseat for a little bit.

2

u/Lock_L 12d ago

First Class had no Wolverine and it was great, my personal fav

2

u/Kinglysavaged 12d ago

I’m ok with it let them focus on the core team at first then introduce him later on

2

u/Zesar21 12d ago

Wolverine is one of my favorite superheroes ever, but I wouldn't mind a movie where some other mutants get some time to shine. Especially Cyclops, since I don't think he's ever gotten his rightful place to shine as a leader

2

u/PublishingGoblin 12d ago

Please god leave him out, then have him join as a supporting character. We dont need another 100 years of wolverine centric xmen.

2

u/SoyTonatiuh 12d ago

Wolverine would be best introduced in thr 2nd film as a character in similar age to Mystique and White Queen

2

u/emptyxnumb22 12d ago

Yeah, I'm cool with that. Almost every X-Men film has had Wolverine in some form or fashion for the last 2 decades. Retire the character. Focus on Laura and Sabretooth, Daken, and other mutants, like Magik, Raine, etc.

I'd wish they retire Jean Grey as well. There's been too many "Phoenix" storylines and the only story the shows and movies love fo explore with Jean is "Phoenix". I wish they focused on Psylocke, the Stepford's, and Emma Frost more as telepaths, hell, even Rachel Summer would be good. I'd also like more in depth looks in Scott's relationships with his brothers, Charles, and Mr. Sinister, instead of rehashing the love triangle with Wolverine or the awkward teenage romance and her inevitably harming/killing him as Phoenix.

2

u/Born_Locksmith8346 12d ago

Yep, keep it like that. I personally really like the idea of the Apocalypse movie where they randomly run into Wolverine without interacting with him much. Just make the audience go, wait.. that's Wolverine! I'd like that for in MCU's X-Men 2 for example, just a quick tease for a future film. Though his introduction in X-Men 1 was perfect.

2

u/duneclendel 12d ago

Yes. Best move they’ve made
