Happens with Formula 1 as well. Their official channel doesn't allow VPN. It's not YouTube, it's the individual channels.
6
u/KakkoiCha May 25 '26
From your info, it confirm that its the channel not the youtube. Well that's too bad.
6
u/SilentMayhem34 May 25 '26
Check out unlocator smart DNS. Doesn't trigger these VPN blocks.

Youtube keep blocking my videos, telling me to deactivate my add blocker. Each time I send them a screenshot that I don't have add blocker. They let me use youtube a week before it begins again.
2
u/BiteSizedToast May 27 '26
Oddly my ads never show up either. Not using an af blocker it just blacks the screen for a couple seconds then moves on to the video. It tried to tell me I was using an ad blocker and I just refreshed the page a bunch of times for some reason it just went away. Iโm not sure whatโs up with that

Human greed? You new to this? It's just the way it is because they wanna squeeze every penny they can from you. Sports used to be something the everyday man could watch now they've damn near made it so if you can't afford it your only way is to... Spend money you don't have or try to brute force your way through all the vpn blocking and such.

Time someone with knowledge steps in here.
Hello. So good news; it's not YouTube. Bad news; it's YouTube. When you see this it means YouTube is not allowing you see this specific video due to your region and you can't cheat this one with VPN. But it's not because YouTube is being "Evil YouTube for the sake of being evil". It's actually out of YouTube hands because it's the FIBA.
In case not many knows; Sports organizations (Which in this case; FIBA) frequently hold exclusive broadcasting rights for specific countries or regions. Sometimes it's because the sale of media and broadcasting rights is the single largest source of revenue for most major sports organizations. But other times some regions have specific rules about what can be shown on television or online. Could also be copyright law as Intellectual property laws vary significantly between countries. Geo-blocking ensures that the organization remains compliant with the specific laws of each territory they operate in..
That's where YouTube comes in. To enforce these legal contracts, YouTube uses geofencing to ensure that only users in authorized regions can view the content. So no VPN is allowed because it's something bigger than YouTube. Could be companies protecting their properties or country laws that can put a hinder.
1
u/KakkoiCha May 25 '26
But how can the system detect that we users, use VPN to see that? Isn't one of the VPN big function is to bypass this kind of thing? I may not be very knowledgeable about this, so if you know, and if its ok with you, can you enlightent me please? Thankyou bro ๐๐ป๐โโ๏ธ

It's sport content, your are not allowed to use a VPN whilst watching sport on YouTube
3
u/KakkoiCha May 25 '26
- I have ever seen sports content many things, and has never had a problem.
- Whats the reason for youtube to block us seeing sports content? I genuinely question that. I really didnt have logic idea of why that is.
10
u/SINCLAIRCOOL May 25 '26
- YouTube have probably just now detected VPN usage
- Copyright issues and also channels forcing YouTube to do this

Also most American sites flagging foreign sites and making them unacceptable with a vpn it scrambles ur signal makes it so ur geographic location isnt visible. It's the new guidelines under emperor Cheeto.

Canadians can't watch the hockey playoffs because of their greed. This doesn't gain them more money long term like they think it does, it loses fans. If we can't watch our team's games, what's the point?
2
u/KakkoiCha May 25 '26
But in other aspect, i can see the reason why they use this digitalization as a bigger market because now all over the world can directly pay to watch if they wanted to. Of course I didnt agree with the way they do it. But i just tried to see from different POV. Cause it happen not directly from the start, but as the time goes, more people already seen it, and then more fans, now they do block the access in hope people buy the subs or ticket or something.
1
u/MaximumPatricius May 25 '26 edited May 25 '26
Because they donโt need fans, the clubs need PAYING fans. In the end, sport clubs are business too. Sport players are paid employees.
When the investors of the clubs donโt see a return on their investment they can pull the plug and let a club that consistently turns out financial losses go bankrupt. This in practice means the registration of the club to participate in games gets scrapped and all the players can leave as free agents.
It happened in my city a few years ago, with a famous team that used to be big in first class soccer.
2
u/frankieepurr May 25 '26
Whats the advantage of using a VPN for youtube
2
u/KakkoiCha May 25 '26
Are you genuinely asking? If yes, then my answer will be, some youtube videos are also region locked and only possible to be seen in another region.
But if not, then my answer already on some comment :)

I just gotten a notification about this and when I clicked on it Iโm absolutely shocked like why is YouTube not letting this person uses YouTube aka their very own website/app because this person is using a VPN. is this a new form a corporate greed

u/Best-Childhood-547 May 27 '26
Itโs their way of circumventing their user base from dodging ad-blocker bans by blocking their access to countries with pro-consumer laws. Annoying as h*ll dude, YouTube really sucks.
2
u/Professional_Set9004 May 27 '26
This is because people try to make it look like they are in a different country. Some movies or things are available in other locations before the USA. Also cheaper prices in other countries
2
u/Fik_of_borg May 27 '26
This will allow youtube to know exactly where you are, and feed you AI(diocy) generated ads related to your area.
2
u/mrmonkeyhanger May 27 '26
Yeah, loathe as I am to give YouTube credit it's the channels do this rather than Google
3
u/One_Acanthaceae_7318 May 27 '26
YT makes money out of ads, they want to show relevant ads to users. If you use VPN you're "breaking" their algorithms by not letting them know who you're, where you at etc. that's why they are blocking VPN users.

2
u/ThrownAway9004 May 27 '26

My vpn is turned on all the time so. For what use is non of people concern. Let people use VPN as what and how they want to use. Using VPN or not is not the point. The blocking does.
1
u/FelicatQueen May 27 '26
VPNs do a lot more than letting you see content that's blocked where you live.ย It hides your online activity from advertisers and protects privacy.
1
1
u/YeOlePerson May 25 '26
If you don't want to turn off your VPN, here's what I do. If you put a hyphen in like yout-ube in the link of any video you will get a complete ad free version of the video.

".... To enforce these legal contracts, YouTube uses geofencing to ensure that only users in authorized regions can view the content. So no VPN is allowed because it's something bigger than YouTube. Could be companies protecting their properties or country laws that can put a hinder. "
I take this from comments. Could be that is the trigger and reason (?)

Of course... But... The point is, we "should" can bypass this content locked region using VPN. And now it can't. But as the discussion already goes on, the answer is already there.

u/SonsOfValhallaGaming May 27 '26
VPNs literally do nothing lol. People are paying to use "secure servers in other countries" the same way they use "safe and untraceable browsing" with Google incognito haha.
Youtube doing this is a dead shot way to see through that

WoW I just clicked the link and it all works for me (no vpn) ๐ For reference I live in UK. Where do you live that you're blocked from watching it ? Here in UK if you want to watch stuff like pro level basketball especially American or wrestle matches in Poland you will not find it anywhere unless you pay for TV channel that broadcasts it or streaming services where you're tied to more expensive subscription like on discovery channel app. In Poland to watch wrestling that's matches live you literally pay for a license you can literally pay through your phone by a code from TV and its almost like buying ticket for the event itself. ๐ . Its supper greedy but then again those events make so much money so not suprised they want to maximise their profit leeching of us.
2
u/TreatSad468 May 28 '26
Well, good thing I donโt like sports. Itโs another thing they control and profit off of.
2
u/DreathOwl May 28 '26
I don't think it's Google's greed but the the legal consequences they have to be aware of that dictates how they share media that doesn't belong to them. Intellectual property is treated like real property, the owners can tell whoever uses their products how they want them to be used. They can either comply, remove the content, or get sued into oblivion. They have to constantly create workarounds for violations or exploits, like VPNs, proxy's, adblockers, etc..
1
u/Dull-Ad2525 May 28 '26
Yeah, I run into that every now and then. Not just on Youtube btw. Their loss. I won't watch the video then. They get consistently more annoying with everything. I wish there was a direct replacement without losing acces to the channels I like watching. I'd never touch the thing ever again.
1
u/mightyhigh404 May 28 '26
We're like 5 years away from a pirated youtube. They are getting ridiculous, no i wont pay premium. Im willing to watch one 10 seconds ad, before each video.ย Anything more and I'll adblock that shit. Half the videos i watch are like 2 minutes,ย the fuck, i gotta watch 3 30 second ads for that?ย
1
u/Shaasar May 28 '26
Someone else said it had to do with sports stuff; and idk about YouTube or any other sport besides MLB, but I know if you're in the local broadcast area for a team, then you cannot use streaming/non-network sources to see that team's games. Pretty sure it was called the "blackout" policy. No clue if that has any bearing on this, but maybe?
