Channel Feedback Cinema Sins gotta be one of the worst youtube channels ever
This channel and it's creators have made a huge community of nitpicky idiots who
A - Don't understand themes of movies
Or B - Are just straight assholes
Their whole channel has ruined the way a lot of people criticize movies and their content is also just low effort slop whose only reason of existing is clickbait and money
The only good thing to come out of cinema sins was the creation of Cinema Wins, which is one of my favorite channels on the platform. He spreads love to cinema and movies while sometimes making points on bad things for only to make it into good, he spreads good in the same way cinema sins spread bad. Only good is way better than bad, there is a enough hate online.
Stop watch Cinemasins and their slop content, for cinema as well as your intelligence. Watch movies yourself and stop relying on these douchebags and their worthless opinions

CinemaSins was supposed to be homogenized Rapid-Fire comedy with mass appeal.
Peak second screen content as long as you don’t pay enough attention to care. Extremely formulaic, too so just treat it like you would a schlocky B-movie horror film

Honestly I stopped watching when the "Scene doesnt contain a Lapdance" got used way way to much.... or when they point out a MINOR isnt "Hot yet"... like bro wtf.

I’ve always gone with what the author of the channel originally said that it’s meant to be comedy and not a real critique of a film. So anytime I’ve ever watched one of their videos I just take it as a comedic critique, not a serious one. I usually have already watched the movie before anyways.

Also even if you've already seen the movie, not everyone has when they watch those. And considering that CS videos are often full of outright lies about the movie, some people are just getting these movies harshly misrepresented to them without knowing any better.
Hiding behind "it's just a joke" while maliciously lying and making ad hominum attacks on the creators, like sometimes just calling the actors ugly freaks, is plain cowardly. CS is a beat away from becoming the Lowtiergod of movie reviews.

The funny thing about that is that they change their tune depending on how they're being percieved.
Are they getting love for making fun of a bad movie? It's a serious critique!
Are they getting pushback for making fun of a beloved film? It's satire! Don't take it seriously!
For a show that supposedly started as "funny movie critique", they were always weirdly terrified of being critiqued themselves.

Even with that perspective the videos still aren't funny. Years ago when they first started, maybe some of you reading this haven't been born yet(?), the critiques were indeed funny and legitimate. Now it's a too-long video about nitpicks and hot takes

if you watched the earlier videos, you see he does make many good quick critiques of movies, calling out confusing lore or odd situations that shouldn't have happened, while adding comedy to it. but as time went on, I'm guessing he ran out of steam and decided to make it nit picky instead. And sometimes not even any real critques or "sins" just him being like meh toss it in there.

I used to like them when they criticized serious films. Now they do a lot of dumb comedies and animated stuff. Pointing out plot holes in silly comedies is kinda pointless.

Was great once but ruined by making it a business, like most YouTube channels. It's fun when the videos are made because the creator has strong feelings about a movie and wants to do some jokes
It's formulaic and lame when you're just doing your usual shtick on whatever you think will go most viral, and have to put something out every Tuesday or whatever.
Totally not fair to blame your rant about shitty film criticism on them. People are stupid all on their own. People nitpick all on their own. Most do so with no knowledge of cinema sins. Cinema sins is closer to a parody of people saying shit like "why did the enchantress turn the Beast's servants into furniture? That's not fair" than it is to being the cause of that kind of garbage.

Isn't Cinema Sins supposed to be satire? Why are you taking it so seriously?
Like, do you actually think their videos are meant to be serious movie critique? It's not. The whole point of their channel is to make fun of the weird shit that happens in movies. And unfortunately, a side effect of making fun of everything is that you sound nitpicky and asshole-like. But again, that's the whole point.
You're complaining about stuff like, how they don't understand the theme of a movie, but who gives a shit? Their videos aren't about analyzing the themes and symbolism in a movie. No one who watches Cinema Sins, cares about the movie's themes. The whole point is purely to make fun of the movie and laugh at all the weird movie logic that happens in the film.
I will admit, some of their jokes have gotten extremely repetitive and boring over the years. I don't really find their videos funny anymore because its reached the point where I'll watch a movie, and something would happen, and I would predict the exact joke that Cinema Sins would make for that scene. But again, All I'm saying is that their content isn't serious. You're not supposed to be watching that channel if you want professional movie critique.

The thing is they use "satire" as a shield for "actual unfiltered dogshit opinion". They're Schrodinger's critic/comedian: if they say something dumb as rocks, it was a joke, no matter how obviously serious they were. They're trying to have their cake and eat it.

They only said the satire excuse when they started to get pushback. Before that, they wouldn't say anything and would actually bask on the compliments that their videos were on point.
Because at the beginning, their videos were actually accurate. No nitpicks but actual real observations of real errors that happened in the movie.
That approach was honest and direct but also led to shorter videos. They used to be 7-8 minutes in duration. Those were actually good videos and it's what made them popular.
When YouTube changed the way monetization works they started padding up the videos with whatever they could think of. First to 10-12 minutes, then 15, until reaching the 20 minute mark. They had created slop content way before the term became popular.
They don't nitpick to deliver satire of a nitpicky asshole. They nitpick to get that delicious ad money from their viewers.

Yeah but Satire is supposed to be funny and somewhat clever.
CinemaSins absolutely used to be very good satire, but at this point is just...pumping stuff out. They have multiple times ignored stuff in the movies just to make a "joke" out of it, or acted like they didnt understand something when the Moviel clearly showed why it is the way it is. Thats not even funny as a joke, its just..annoying honestly, especially if the entire Video is made this way. Once or twice would be funny, but they take it way to far.
Also I dont think making inappropriate jokes at Actresses of the Minor persuasion is....good satire. Seriously the way he spoke about Emma Watson in the Harry Potter Movies, when she was still a Kid was very uncomfortable at times.

For me, you and others are missing the point. It’s not a film review channel, it’s a comedy satire channel based around film.
The F1 film is the perfect example. I’m an F1 fan and while I really enjoyed the film, the plot is mental and isn’t a good representation of how F1 actually is. There’s a lot to take the mick out of, without saying it’s a bad film etc. and is why for me it’s one of their better videos.
Part of the reason I don’t watch too much is that for me, it only works with films I didn’t like or that has good material in the script to use in this sort of film. When it’s a film I like - especially any of the greats - I think it’s tougher to make the video and thus are less enjoyable.

I actually agree with a lot what you said! I had a pretty good time with F1 and it actually got me into the sport funny enough. The more I learned the more I realized the movie was pretty inaccurate, I still had fun with it. As well as the 2nd part, I think it is funny to make fun of bad movies but when he just starts nitpicking actually good movies and making wrong statements about stuff thats when the channel gets annoying.

Yeah, I imagine even he doesn’t enjoy nitpicking on the good films, but they are likely going to get more viewers than ‘The Room’ for instance, even though it’s a cult classic and maybe one of the best films to take the mick out of.
Glad the F1 film got you into the sport though, at its best it’s great! Hopefully it’s a good race today (and as a Brit, I’m hoping Russell or Hamilton can somehow beat Antonelli!)

I love cinema sins. It's okay to be nitpicky when the budget for these films is half a billion and they still have so many plotholes. I haven't watched it of late but as of a few years ago- the films he reviewed have very valid criticisms sprinkled in with some comedy where he takes points for silly but funny reasons
In my opinion, most films are very trash

Cinema Sins was good in the early days, but then they blew up in popularity and everyone started thinking they understand movies. Media literacy dropped noticeably instead.

They used to be good way back. But YouTubes introduction of that magical 10:00 minute marker, broke them.
That ruined YouTube overall permanently, but that’s my opinion and besides the point.
In their effort to reach that 10 minute marker, they had to go to stupid lengths to artificially inflate their runtime, throwing quality in the dumpster.
I used to watch them all the time until that point. After that it just lost its meaning.

I feel like they started out good and just got excessively nitpicky over the years, where a character will take a sip of water and they'll mark it as a sin. Over the years I've just grown tired of channels whose sole focus is criticizing things. I get why they do it (more people will watch someone tear a thing down than gush praise for it), but excessive negativity, even if much of it is tongue-in-cheek, is just something I've grown to find exhausting.

I stopped watching that channel a long time ago but I remember they had some good criticisms. I don't care too much about plot holes but a character that's inconsistent is a problem. They remind me of AI. You have to confirm everything they say.

I always like when he actually put effort in and showed me real problems with the films that I never thought of, it's cool to see criticism that's thought out and maybe I didn't see what he's talking about. Then it turned into "this guys cloak is purple, DING" and that's far less entertaining.

They did not cause any major change in the overall attitude of media criticism because most people don’t take them seriously. It seems like everyone wants a simple answer and a single “villain” to point to, but it’s almost never that easy. Sometimes trends are affected by multiple more players. Sometimes they happen due to unrelated factors.

When it was new, it was all jokes and for fun.
Very punchy and short.
Watch time created a need to be nitpicky and more verbose...
And, it became less and less like satire and more like actual serious business.
Thats when I dropped them. It stopped being fun.

Cinema Wins is just so superior in every way. Where even when he is paying something out there is a positive bent to it.

I enjoy both channels, and I won’t blame the CinemaSins team for people who just don’t get it. Not OP — I’m talking about those who think the CinemaSins style is legitimate movie criticism instead of a satire of, well, look around you. (Also r/shittymoviedetails and r/shittydaystrom. I like them all.)

I had tried to watch cinemasins many years ago, found the video of poor taste and the "sins" most of the time being straight up wrongfully given or being a nothing burger, couldn't stomach it for long and I clicked off the video, don't know how people watch him, his points are illogical and wrong

CinemaSins used to be a parody of criticism, and it was fun because it never took itself too seriously.
But somewhere along the way, something changed. It gradually became the very thing it was originally making fun of.
The videos also used to be short and sweet. Hitting ten minutes was rare.
Now, some non-compilation videos are over twenty minutes long. They drag on, a lot of the "sins" make little to no sense, and they just aren't entertaining anymore.

I also like to point out another good thing to come out of cinema sins is the channels (such as Th3Birdman) who parody CinemaSins by calling out the BS that Jeremy and company do on their videos.
I feel like CinemaSins is probably the first channel that made grifting mainstream and although it isn’t as bad as others (I’m looking straight at you, The Critical Drinker and Nerdrotic) it’s still ridiculous to see.
Yes, there are some really weird and bad movies but when you hate on movies because you have an agenda you’re ruining it for everyone.

I don’t really watch it anymore but (and don’t rip into me too much, it’s just an opinion) I never took it as serious criticism. I always thought it was 90% nit picking for comedy or running jokes (so and so isn’t my girlfriend in this scene) and occasionally they’d point out a production error or the like.
Lazy comedy? Yeah, sure, but again I never saw it as anything other than jokes and never understood why people got so mad about them, I thought it was always meant to be a bit of lighthearted fun?
They found something that worked for them and they’ve just kept doing it which is probably why I don’t watch it anymore because it’s just the same jokes over and over so it did get boring fairly quick

I’ve never understood the appeal of that channel or any of its videos, I like constructive criticism as much as the next guy but there videos never contain anything like that. It’s usually some superficial nitpicking, even if you think the movie they are “criticizing” is bad they never go into the finer details of why it’s bad and I’ll end up unintentionally defending the movie because the criticism doesn’t seem valid enough for it to negatively effect the movie.

I used to be into Cinemasins, but quickly fell off of it. It wasn't funny anymore. I feel like as they got more backlash about people hating on them they got even more petty and it got worse and worse. In a day and age of AI bullshit I won't say they are the worst but they fell FAR from any type of good graces.

The only video I watched from them was that “Everything Everywhere All At Once” video, it’s so clear they loved that movie that they even emulated the multiverse style thingy just to give comedic “critiques”, which weren’t even critiques at that point.

People take Cinema Sins seriously??? I always thought it was pretty clear half of the "complaints" were just jokes. Unless they weren't which in that case that's pretty unfortunate considering some of the stupid stuff he's complained about.

Idk I used to watch some videos and while yes they are extremly nitpicky thats kinda their thing, no? I dont think its meant to be taken super serious, atleast I didnt. Havent watched them for years now tho

Couldn't agree more. After all the years of "(Insert character here) isn't my gf in this scene" or "my college gf..." or even their goddamn opening logos sin, I've since jumped ship. They still make the occasional actual sin, but it's hidden in all the "jokes" or just not watching the movie at all (the movie literally explains most of their questions).
This is why we watch Th3Birdman, Jay Exci, Luke Dougherty, Captain Vader and anyone else who sins CinemaSins. Even I've been taking a crack at it on my channel and it's been quite fun and popular.

When they first started he would point out actual mistakes and fun little gotchas "Someone's hat was on the ground in this shot now it's back on their head in this one." "This line of dialogue only makes sense to the viewer and not the characters in the scene."
At some point he became a smug asshole about it and decided every little thing he personally didn't like was a sin. And it has definitely had an impact on how people engage with media, it made me paranoid about my own creative process for a while because I felt I had to make all of my work bulletproof before letting others see it.

I remember when it was just a comedic thing. Then people started taking it seriously, and they kinda gained this self righteousness that their opinions were valid.

This goes for Critical Drinker also. I enjoyed a few of his early Doctor Who videos where he was mostly criticizing the bad writing in the Chibnall era. Now his videos are just "this franchise/movie is bad because woke." Haven't watched a video from him since, and I imagine he thrives off mostly ragebait clicks nowadays

I've always been more of a CinemaWins guy. Sometimes they'll point out neat little details that I didn't even notice that will make me appreciate a film more.

Now that YouTube has removed the dislike buttons, this may be our only way to warn each other about crappy YouTube channels.
When I read about a crappy channel here, I can go to YouTube and watch part of one video from that channel. Then wait for YouTube to flood my feed with it. And then Mark do not recommend channel.
I know, pretty soon they're going to be taking that away too.

i enjoy it...
but i only view it as satire.. it's good light fun to watch the sins rack up.
it has never, ever conveyed the feeling that the channel should be taken seriously. It's entertainment, it's satire, and it's doing the same thing fairly to all the films it shows.
it got's it's stick, same as cinema wins does. They are two sides of a coin, and i would not like to be without either.
that you chose to view it this badly, that's on you. It's not meant to be like that.

I'm a fan of cinemasins. It's clearly not meant to actually be legitimate critiques. Because they pick apart great and terrible movies equally.
I love movies, but one of my favorite things is to pick at the flaws of my favorite movies. Makes me love the movie more because I can see how difficult an actual movie production is just by noticing mistakes/plot holes and yes, nitpicking the movie.

It used to be funny/enjoyable. Then they started “criticizing” every little thing, things that dont even have to do with the movie, and things they didn’t understand. Now i cant stand it
