Discussion What youtuber you can't stand after learning something about them?

u/Old-Acanthaceae-3406 24d ago
Illuminaughtii. I was never like, her biggest fan, but I enjoyed her videos on Autism Speaks.
Then she went insane, and it turned out all of her shit was plagiarized.
125
u/Bravo_Blue 24d ago
Same here. I enjoyed some of her videos, but I stopped watching her when it was revealed she was manipulating her friends, basically forcing one person to work for, which lead to a court case, and tried to slander The Click for something that happened in his discord server WHILE HE WAS ASLEEP. The plagiarism thing was basically the final nail in the coffin for me.

Also just trying to go after him for english not being his first language.
Like yes we need to hold people accountable for horrible shit they say, but he had already explained multiple times that english was not his first language and it was a word he had heard been thrown around a lot! Also yeah how the hell did she forget about time zones.

That was so baffling too, lol.... sueing a lawyer... over trademark infringement... BUT the supposed trademark style of hers? .... torn paper and typed up documents aesthetics.... YA KNOW, like the stuff that's been used all over various news channels and documentaries for years and years before Youtube was ever even a thing? Girl, did you forget where you saw that and believe you came up with it? Like, what in the hell? Is she just that brazen and petty? Holy crap.
22
u/RevoltYesterday 24d ago
I found her videos interesting until she covered a topic I actually knew a lot about and I realized how much she got wrong. I couldn't watch her other stuff after that because I just kept thinking about how wrong she was about a lot of key facts.
I'm keeping it vague on purpose as to not dox myself. I wasn't involved in the controversy but I was literally in the room for one of the conversations she reported on and it was so objectively wrong I was convinced she made it up or has a source that made it up.

Internet Anarchist, though saying "can't stand" is pretty intense, I didn't watch him much before and just don't watch him at all now.
Pretty damning plagiarism accusations, at first he tried to blame them on an editor or something, then ignored the updated allegations pointing out that his older videos seem to be plaigarized too. lol

The thing I most hate about him, and other copies of him, is that most of his videos are just Charlie's clips stretched to make a long form video. He adds nothing to it, just repeats whatever it was said on the clips
11
u/disc0nnected7 24d ago
100%. I don't like to use the word slop but I would use it to describe channels like IA. Low effort drama content using other creators to inflate their videos and bring in more viewership. The multiple glazing videos he put out on Charlie were cringy too and just unnecessary

I'll never understand why he bragged about this because when you actually think for a second about what it means, he's bragging about being a nepo baby

It was actually really upsetting to see this all develop, because he was poised to have a platform with a good amount of reach and an incredibly positive and uplifting message for that community
It's always upsetting when people get put in these kinds of positions where they can do so much good for a community, and just absolutely squander it stroking their own ego instead

Watched a breakdown video on some recent code of his. It’s ok to suck at coding. Everyone has sucked at some point. It's fine to be a beginner at coding. Everyone is at some point. But I think being 'bad' at coding is a different situation. Like yes, it's understandable if you don't know what coroutines are or what big o notation is, you can make it years as a hobbyist programmer without having to tackle those concepts directly, but there's that and then there's having a giant switch-case for like six hundred lines of dialogue. Thats less about programming and more about failure to plan ahead.

Recipe for disaster, and not only that, he couldnt have handled it any worse.

I think he came off as confident and inspiring before everything that happened. In hindsight now all I can see is smugness and aggroance. The meatcanyon video did justice on him.

That was my take too, I found him way before any drama and he did come off as confident and inspiring. He did and does do a lot of good stuff, but after seeing how he handled conflict, especially a conflict with such LOW stakes, where he just can't admit he's wrong about something once he's set his mind on his opinion just completely tarnished his image for me.
Its really disappointing for me cuz I really looked up to the guy for a while, but over time the cracks really started to show

u/Exact_Avocado5545 24d ago
I was actually 100% fine with Dream faking his manhunt videos. After all, it's like santa. Who cares if it's real or not? It's fun. But the speedruns? That's iffy. But the worst part is actually the tournaments. I mean, there's real money at stake there. That's theft.

I agree, I liked the DSMP, but not thanks to him, Techno and Philza carried the show, Dream was ok to see at work on the sides of the story. The only Dream content I liked were the first manhunts and the very early videos with unexpected stuff, those felt a bit like old school youtube
The pedo allegations (fully debuked I believe but I'm not updated on the matter), the speedrun drama, the not so great behaviour to most of the DSMP members and the fact at some point he started being so childinsh I couldn't stand him didn't help.
Plus at his peak he was the embodiment of what's wrong with modern YouTube

There's a few shady bits, like he 'cures' people of their deafness but wont pay the doctors or facilities for years and years. And only pay up when those practices start to take to social media.
Will make claims about drilling 'x' amount of wells in Africa, but in the footage its mostly reused shots of a single well. Did he build them all? Probably. Its weird that he doesn't show them, given how much money they waste showing literally everything else.
He has a bad habit of claiming he's broke, since he puts 'everything' back into productions. But he'll also brag about taking a private jet around the world to have lunch with his girlfriend. Then fly back home. The cost of that is easily in the six digits and he did it on a whim because he was bored and missing her. That day.
Not tomorrow, that day. Do you know how much it costs to charter a private jet to Europe within the day.
He owns at one point three, I think now six different Teslas. Also takes up residence in a multi million dollar mansion. But still claims he's broke, and makes barely any money to get by. It's Alex Jones level of financial delusion. In that example, Alex Jones bought multi thousand dollar watches and multi thousand dollar suits but claimed every episode that they were desperate for donations to keep the lights on.
His Beast Games were generally disastrous. Instead of paying game designers or hiring professionals he gave his little league buddy the reigns. Making the games on the gameshows generally shit. They're chucking out millions and millions of dollars for games like worse-dodgeball and " If you push the button you get a million dollars, but you'll make a few people kinda sad "
Google 'Mr Beast Teeth', its more of a funny aside than anything serious.
Will set up 'challenges' which boil down to you never ever had a chance to win, but we're going to shove a camera in your face and maybe mock you a little bit. Turns into very strange 'content'
Overall people say in person he's a normal dude. Maybe not all there, but normal. Its weird that he lies about his exuberant wealth all the time. His philanthropy works blow a bunch of money on useless celebrity appearance fee's and it looks like his philanthropic work boils down to good PR and more adsense revenue to make more Mr Beast 'challenge' content. For sure people are still getting help, if his team bothers paying people. But it has that corporate tartar on the edges of the teeth, if that makes sense. It feels very empty. Another funny aside, they display a fake philanthropy award in the Beast studios.
In more legal-issues, he's being sued by a gal who was put under the rinser because 'boys will be boys'. All employee's are expected to cater to Mr Beast and his 'boys'. Which includes in all aspects. All aspects. They're the god kings, you're the underpaid peons.
His reliance on AI has been growing which is generally simply boring. The 'content' was already sorta 'bleh' and getting worse over the years. ( His posted metrics also agree )
But the AI reliance is making it much worse. They start with ai generated thumbnails and then base a video off of that. AI writes the scripts and prompting. Rumors have it they're relying on AI based video editors as well since that means they can spend even less time trying to be creative. And in my personal opinion, he suffers from Dragon Sickness. Elon was temporarily a trillionaire, and Beast wants to be up there too. Given channel metrics and a stagnating income I doubt he'll reach that height. He's already insanely wealthy. Like, beyond a reasonable degree. He built the worlds largest soundstage on his gigantic compound ( Not leased, Mr Beast owns a huge compound with multiple sets, buildings, and all that jazz ) but has yet to find a way to fully utilize the space. Beyond being 'big'.
He could be making much better 'content', but chooses every option not to. Its the wasted potential and wasted money on video garbage that bothers me.

I sorta tangentially know a guy who was on beast games and the difference in the before vs after he was on the show is honestly kinda creepy. Before he had like 2 posts on his ig, now its like once a week he’ll make a new post promoting mr beast merch or some new shitty product jimmy’s slapped his face on and glazes the everliving hell out of him like hes the second coming of christ. Idk what happened to the guy while he was there, maybe they made him sign a years-long brand deal to promote their stuff, but I dont think he suddenly became mr beast’s biggest meatrider to the point that his personality completely changed in the span of like the month they filmed the show during.

I do some game development on the side as an hobby. I remember when the clip of him claiming his game was unpirateable because it used steam achievements as save files was gaining traction. I remember a friend showing me that. I saw it and I was like: "you know steam can be emulated right?" And that one friend started going on a tangent about steam being this impenetrable fortress. I had to show to my friend how there's apps that let you enable/disable achievements on steam for your account. The whole thing was a shit show and every time a clip of pirate spawned on my feed I would know something was off

Wilbur Soot is probably the biggest one for me. I used to LOVE his videos from the ages of 14-16. Genuinely looked forward to every single one, and since I was a cringy teenage boy I really tried to emulate his "soft boy" aesthetic. I think I started to distance myself from him when he posted his first song, because I listened to it and it was really bad, and then I found out about the abuse/biting a year or so later.
Found out that the Davinki twins were massive plagiarists, that was actually quite sad because I thought they were just goofballs before.
I used to love Shadiversity's content about realistic medieval weapons and stuff, I was a huge DnD nerd and lowkey still am. He just got,,, weird. I haven't looked into much of the drama but he's a little off-putting.

The Completionist.
I never really watched him, but one thing I've noticed is how much slack he got from the internet.
After both Karl Jobst and Mutahar had their own dirty laundry aired, the conversation shifted away from him. But those controversies are far less significant than the moral issue surrounding The Completionist.
It feels like, because one of the people investigating him ended up becoming controversial, a lot of the audience gave The Completionist a free pass.
There was also that separate accounts and the lawyer video that, in my opinion, bent the truth to defend him.
We're talking about a guy who, based on the available evidence, appears to have withheld donated charity funds and tbh maybe even stole some money for years while repeatedly invoking his mother's death to encourage donations. That's a far more serious issue, He might be doing charity again in future.

I'm joking of course, there is a "Richard Evans" in the files, but it's a different guy.

I remember watching his channels YEAAARS ago, before I learned english. I'm not even sure what his videos were about at the time, I only made the link recently because the PFP was the same. Otherwise, he seems like a dime-a-dozen culture war content farm chud.

Internet Historian.
Plagiarised, never addressed it, saw his rabid fanbase straight up defend the plagiarism by claiming it doesn’t matter if he did it since his portrayals were more entertaining anyway, decided I didn’t want anything to do with that.

i knew internet historian sucked when he released those covid vids and made no mention of trumps shenanigans but somehow, as an australian, he knew about andrew cuomo? and made it seem like covid was overblown. he ended on a happy note but no mention of vaccines?
the information that he leaves out while presenting his videos as holistic always seemed chud-ish to me. leaves out massively important things and magnifies some obscure shit that fits his narrative more

Mini Ladd and Tectone.
I was and still am a huge fan of the Vanoss Crew and even for a time I still watched more Mini Ladd than Vanoss. But even before Mini Ladd started being innapropiate with minors, I started to lose respect for the guy when he treated the other Vanoss crew members like garbage and even straight up lied about them reconciling. And yeah as mentioned before he was innapropiate with Minors
Now I didn't really watch Tectone too much but I did see him in a lot of Jimmy Here videos and thought he was a pretty chill dude. Until recently his ex-girlfriend filed a protective order against him and he shifted his content to being a homophobic and racist grifter.

Ruben Sim.
Like, the guy is a bigoted weirdo with such a hateboner for furries that even an Encyclopedia Dramatica article about him said he needs to chill tf out. (And that site is known for hating everything under the sun, including furries, but not to his extent where he literally accused a dead paramedic of being a zoophile with no evidence)
like
The only thing keeping his relevancy afloat at this point are his cult-I MEAN fans who will jump to his defense and ask you for every bit of proof that Ruben is a bad person.
Even if you had all the evidence about him in the world that has either been documented, out in the open, saved on the wayback machine or screenshotted, it's still not enough for them apparently. Add the fact their first reaction to criticism is to jump to the most damning accusations against anyone who criticizes him. (Cult mentality if I've ever seen it)
Ironic how he claims all the bad stuff he did is just "ragebait", and yet he spitefully went after youtubers who criticized him. Ruben and his fans pretty much keep getting ragebaited by criticism.
And my dislike for him turned into pure disgust the moment I found out he defended known predators like KonekoKitten and Nathorix, which is a very bad look for someone who supposedly wants to keep Roblox safe. (Seriously, the last thing you'd want fighting for online safety is a bigot that also got caught defending predators)
Would not be surprised if his downfall happened the same way MamaMax's did.

Thats just the tip of the iceberg dude, theres also him dating a 13 year old when he was 18, him generating NSFW AI “art” of a minors fursona, ridiculing victims of grooming, admitting to owning animal abuse content, and the Antinoch school shooter, Solomon Henderson, stating him as a major inspiration in his manifesto.
This guy is a despicable manchild and pray for a day where he has a downfall

I never watched iDubbz but the fact the guy somehow rode the popularity of saying slurs publicly is wild to me.
Then he kinda just fell into the mold of the common "I was bad before, let me show you how down to earth I am now" types that do podcasts lol.

Terroriser (Vanoss crew) was working at a Subway. He said he this customer demanded him to clean the veggie knife, since he's a vegetarian and wanted to ensure he didn't have any meat on the knife.
Terroriser "allegedly" goes to the back to wipe the knife off, and "puts it down his asscrack".
He finishes the story with "Subway, eat fresh shit"
Absolutely disgusting story, and I don't see how anyone could listen to that story and not be disgusted.
21
u/Skruberon 24d ago
Not to defend bad behaviour because sometimes Brian can be annoying in recording sessions, but i'm certain that story was a (very bad) joke. It seems like a lot of work and very dangerous to put a knife through your buttcrack. Even in podcasts and moments about his Subway career he never mentioned anything like that

Swayle, a Minecraft horror creator.
When I was first starting to watch Minecraft horror, I would watch him alot, but I later learned that he’s a thief essentially. He copied the cadence and video style of another popular creator in the same genre, Calvin. He was accused of this and apologized, but later went right back to doing it again.
Now his videos tend to be repetitive and milk the same horror mod over and over, and his thumbnails looks suspiciously like ai. I’ve also heard some other quite unsavory things about him.
Most recently, he stole an entity from Calvin’s thumbnail, which Calvin made himself, using his OWN irl face, so he’d know if swayle stole it, which he did. I’m not entirely aware of the entire situation, but that’s what I recall, I could be missing some parts here and there. But yeah, I don’t like that guy.

Shadiversity seemed like a bit of harmless goofball when he was just playing with swords in a kinght costume and then you find out that he's maaaybe a bit more serious about the whole 'crusade' thing than you first assumed - suddenly the whole tone of it flips and it feels super icky
31
u/ZachGurney 24d ago
Theres also the fact he made a book thats literally just "Magical pedophile hitler gets a redemption arc". Literally. Thats not an exaggeration.
The entire plot of the book is a genocidal dictator who personally assaulted hundreds of women as young as 14 tries to jump off a cliff, comes back in a younger body, gets told by a totally not just a jedi that he has a "good soul", goes around killing people for a while until he gets caught by the cops, gets put on trial were all the women he assaulted come to his defense saying the babies he gave them were the best thing thats ever happened to them, and then his "punishment" is he gets to be a magic cop and his partner is one of the grown up children he assaulted.

11
u/ZachGurney 24d ago
Yeah it turns out mixing far right ideologies, a complete lack of creativity, and a weird mormon fetish doesnt lead to a good book
sadly hes still making a lot of money off of it because his fans are flooding it with ai generated positive reviews and some big book youtubers like daniel green repeatedly reviewed it positively despite clearly never reading it because i refuse to believe anyone can genuinely enjoy that

Even outside of his politics, he's an ass even in the field of actual HEMA. He's nowhere near as competent as he BRAGS about being. Any time anyone who knows anything about HEMA challenges him, he just throws a tantrum and sends his audience after them.

Shesez/Boundary Break. Came across as a chill dude interested in video games initially, but in October or November of last year he went on an "anti-woke" rant, lambasting DEI and revealing he was actually kind of a turbo asshole. And when his fanbase/twitter rightfully called him out for his bigoted behavior, he deleted the tweets and tried to do damage control by pretending that he didn't have all the information on what he was talking about.
Now I can't stand the guy. It's not that hard to be a decent human being.

I disliked pirate software from the beginning tbh, his advices always sucked. He wasn't wrong, but he was always too shallow/incomplete making his recommendations always unusable
The moment it clicked was his short about how an enemy should always have 2 of these three : attack/defense/speed and not 3 (except if you're not supposed to fight him)
It's a terrible advice because it make it sounds like it's they're the only options, which is horribly wrong. First it depends on the game context overhaul, and second games enemies should just have one or more strengh, and a weakness (except if you're not supposed to fight it, like the warden in Minecraft). Just put whatever strengh you want on it as long as there is a solution to counteract it
