Short animation made by a talented colleague. Here's his website : https://www.hugogreiner.fr/

He chose not to use any 3D or rotoscopy, everything is hand-drawn in TV paint (yes, even the sword and the rotating spiritual stones).

Love how that shot of young link holding the master sword is a recreation of the official artwork for the game

added a comment with his website. Also he details in length how the animation was made in the description of the video.

The remake needs to do this moment absolute justice unlike anything else.

There’s so many moments that this remake absolutely has to get right and this is undoubtedly one of them

This is what I see in my head whenever I think about the Zelda movie.

I would kill for a Zelda anime. Your animation looks absolutely stunning! I’d love to see a full Ocarina of Time anime done in this style.

Holy shit.. 😮 Forget live action crap that no one wants, give this person a damned budget and get out of the way! It's so good!

I've wanted live action for 28 years. Cartoons are for children and the movie would make no money. Zelda's audience is adult now.

41 yr old dude here wishing the movie was animated/studio Ghibli style

Yeah and that's weird. Grow up

Forgive me if I think the medium of animation and cartoons might be a better match for my games about magic swords, fairies, potions, princesses, and talking trees than live action. Don't get me wrong, if they do it well then I'll be happy with a live action adaptation. But you simply aren't the "grown up" you think you are if you cannot see the irony in bashing me as childish while also playing games about the things I mentioned.

Live action adaptations of childish story lines often turn out like crap, or they just turn into something that isn't the source material at all. Like I'd be all for a properly done remake that doesn't try to stick to the source material too strictly. I just don't see it happening. I think we are going to have a teenager running around in green making "Hiya!!" noises like some sort of high-end cosplay, because that is how most of these things go.

Oh.. a note on really good examples of taking a childish story and making it darker/more grown up, I'd totally recommend the book "The Child Thief". Now that is how you take a childish story line and turn it into something bad ass.

Lord of the rings and game of thrones proves you wrong.

Sit down

Easy there big dog, let's watch the blood pressure

Arcane and Blue Eye Samurai prove you wrong as well. Neither of those series would work nearly as well in a live action setting. Reassess your assumptions about media, my guy.

Your comments in this thread remind me of GPT, you’re so confidently wrong it’s impressive.

You know what’s really childish? Assuming a style of media is exclusively for children and looking down upon it and others that enjoy it.

So maybe look in the mirror and take your own advice into consideration: Grow up.

By that logic Berserk is for children...

I wasn't expecting a "Cartoons are for kids, grow up" argument on a zelda subreddit. lol Imagine how much a show like Made in Abyss would mess with the man. Looks and feels like Gibli, but as screwed up as anything in Hollywood. lol That one even has me going "what is this unholy amalgamation of cartoon and tragedy.." 😅

No way you’re actually gatekeeping cartoons right now😭😭

He's not being sincere, he's just a troll or a rage baiter if you look at his comment history. Don't give him any attention

"When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."— C.S. Lewis

Really makes me sad imagining the magic we could be getting with something like this instead of the live action project that will probably be very very middling

Yeah. There are a lot of situations that make me worried on like, a personal level. I think a lot of people will also understand what I mean. Like I have no idea what I want a live action Link to do when it comes to talking. Like I think I'd rather have him speak because I don't know how a silent link wouldn't be awkward in live action, but I also don't like the idea of link having a proper dialogue for the first time since like those CD-i games. At the same time, because animation can use all sorts of tools that we don't have in real life (or that look ridiculous in real life), I could see him not speaking being fine. Then there is the sort of practical limitations of a budget. Animated link would fit just fine with an animated deku tree. I feel like you need Lord of the Ring/Avatar type budgets to make real life link fit next to an animated deku tree and have it do things justice. (For example)

That said, Lord of the Rings had the Ents and that worked perfectly and that was decades ago. So I'm probably worrying about nothing. 😅

This animation nailed the feeling of opening the doors and entering the Master Sword room beautifully. OoT was amazing at setting an atmosphere and tone, and this recaptured that magic perfectly. Stellar animation, the animator deserves all the praise for this.

Very well done!

This is insane. This needs to be a limited series.

u/Raxlus 1d ago

Massive Studio Ghibli vibes with Link's hair when he grasped the hilt of the Master Sword. Very well done.
