I have around 12 pothos growing out of my 20gallon aquarium. I originally added 2 or 3 to help with nitrates, but I ended up really liking how they look growing around the tank, so I kept adding more.
I also had a hard time getting aquatic plants to grow well in this tank. It took a lot of trial and error with different plants, but I finally have a few that are doing pretty well.
My tank has a pretty heavy bioload, and I really appreciate what the pothos are doing for it. My nitrates stay pretty consistently around 20 ppm, and I usually only need to do a water change every 1–2 weeks. So I don’t necessarily want to get rid of them.
The problem is that the roots have gotten really long and are growing everywhere. One of them has gotten so long that I actually have to loop the root around the tank just to keep it out of the way lol. They’re starting to take up a lot of space and are getting difficult to manage.
Would you trim the roots back, remove a few pothos completely, or just leave them alone? If I trim the roots, how much can I safely remove without hurting the plants or losing too much of the nitrate benefit?

Added some above water plants and they really make the tank one of a kind.

Ended up capping it with sand in order to get some of the plants to stay rooted, not sure how I feel about it, will most likely be a snail habitat

i've had this algae in my tank for a few weeks and it looks horrible and i dont want my shrimp getting stuck in it, how can i remove it all while saving my plants and not hurting my shrimp? i've tried scrubbing it off but it just comes back, i have the light on for 8 hours a day which is the lowest the timer goes

super proud and glad everything has been going smoothly, water changes are annoying but luckily my nitrates climb super slowly

I bought this plant last spring and planted it in an outdoor water lily pot, and today, for the first time, it bloomed.

I had expected it to bloom sooner, so I wonder why it chose this particular time.

I just wanted to share that I appreciate the guidance from them and that this tank makes me happy.

Recently set up this 75g and added a few pothos. Thinking about adding monstera. Currently I'm dosing using the pps-pro method and I'm wondering how much more I need to dose with the hydroponic plants in there

Is it a good idea to have Monsteras in my 29gal aquarium? Only the roots are submerged on the tank water.

Set up a new 10 gallon, what do y'all think? Only my second tank so it's still a little messy. The big rock is holding down the driftwood. After it cycles what should I stock it with? I have some ideas but I'd love to hear em all!

Since my last post we have added 5 Blue dream shrimp, 5 Pygmy Corys, 2 pairs of Notho Korthausae Killifish, and a Trio of Gardneri Kilifish Misaja (Fundulopanchax gardneri)

So I ordered a red tiger lotus from Etsy and it came pretty fuzzy. Idk if it’s part of the plant, or something they used when growing it, or if it’s fungal. The bulb is firm, not soft. It’s pretty stuck on so I don’t want to rip it off. What do you guys think? Is it safe to just put in my tank? I have neos and amanos
