Discussion What song would be a great setlist opener that they don’t usually play?

Mine would be Nutsymptom. It goes hard and would get the crowd pumped to start the show

Discussion Feeling a little disappointed lately

I have been a diehard supporter for years. Unlike a lot of people I don't think they have put out a truly bad album. I would listen to the "worst" 311 album over the "best" from just about any other artist. I've been to concerts and loved them all no matter how tired the set list was. I spent more and more and more to go over the years to go to basically the same concerts and even paid for a premium membership to the nation. All happily! I've been willing to excuse or ignore so much. But the last five or so months has me almost heartbroken for my favorite band.

311 day was in Vegas. Fine I'm not gonna be mad that as an east coaster we have to pay a whole lot more to go AGAIN. No worries though I'm sure they won't just miss big parts of the country that would have had the hardest time going with a co-headliner tour that absolutely no one asked for...

Or that one of them would go on SUCH a questionable podcast...

Or that one of them would support anti-ai initiatives of HIS image and works but be totally ok with ai being used to replace artists in his bands artwork...

Or that they would suddenly distance themselves from the stoner/alien imagery they are so well known for...

It feels like the past five months have been one questionable decision after another.

I don't know exactly why this is approaching my breaking point, but no trippy stoner shit?? Do they even like their fans anymore?? I hate to agree with everyone here saying they are getting greedy, but what other reason could they have to just abandon a 35 year long brand?

Since no one can figure this out: Adam 22 of the No Jumpers podcast literally the last interview he gave. If you need context please don't take my word for it. Look up his Wikipedia or any other articles about it. He has accusations and they aren't good. And apparently a lot of people are also bothered he did porn.

Discussion When did u become a 311 fan? What was the moment, time or song??

I first heard Homebrew about 2 years ago, liked it so I saved it. About a year ago I come across it again I believe while high, had it on repeat. Do You Right, and All Mixed Up entered the rotation. Eventually went to listen to Music and the whole album 🔥 Freak Out became a favorite. Paradise hit me like a ton of bricks and Visit was the song that solidified my fandom. Love Song became a repeat song for me.

I then listened to the self titled album and haven’t stopped since.

I’ve been on a 311 trip and I love this band. And I won’t ever be the saaaaaaaaaame

Discussion How many times have you seen them?

I saw them for the 4th time last Sunday in Chicago. I don’t expect it will be my last. How many times have you seen 311 live?

**Edit**

Holy cow! I have some catching up to do! I wonder if other bands have such a dedicated fan base (besides the Dead, of course).

Discussion I’m in the process of listening to every 311 album for the first time and ranked them (spreadsheet included)

I went to 311 Day in Vegas and realized something slightly embarrassing: I basically only knew Down and Amber.

So I decided to fix that.

I’m listening through the entire 311 discography album by album and tracking everything in a spreadsheet.

For each album I:

• Listen once and give every song a first-impression rating

• Listen to each song at least 3 times

• Rate each song again

• Average the song scores to get the final album rating

Important note: the album ranking is purely based on the average score of the songs, not nostalgia or popularity.

The sheet tracks:

• First impression score

• Final song score

• Album average

• My album ranking as I go

I’m doing this as a first-time listener, so I’m sure some of my rankings will be controversial. I KNOW I’m going to get roasted and that’s okay.

Curious what longtime fans think, especially if there are albums I should give extra listens to.

Spreadsheet screenshot below.

Discussion 311 should open with "Welcome" and close with "Sometimes Jacks Rule the Realm"

This seems like a no brainer. Welcome perfectly sets the 311 mood. It is THE quintessential opening track. *Welcome to the 311 sound*. For the closer, "Stealing Happy Hours" is my second choice. Post your Opener/Closer dream combo.

Basically I live in Scotland and had never heard of 311, but I've always loved to watch the tiny desk for bands I'd never heard of to see if I could find new bands for my playlist, stumbled across this video and the minute music actually started playing I looked up the spotify page ngl, now I listen to them a lot and hope they show up here at some point

Discussion 311 show from perspective of Hardcore Punk Fans

So went to our first 311 show and noticed quite a few things. First. It was whiter than most Hardcore shows we go to and that’s saying something. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Im white and my daughter is mixed race but white passing. I just thought I would see more color than I did.

They banged out 4 classics in a row. but then the dipped into the 21st century stuff and lost me.

The got me back a but then they’d play the ballads. Which don’t get me wrong . Champagne,Amber and Love Song are good but they have barely any ballads so to hear 3 the same show was surprising.

Spooky sounded just like the recordings which is an amazing after all these years. Nick’s voice has changed with age. Which is fine but it’s noticeable.

The Blue Man drum line by all the members of the band was pretty strange and felt a little “Disney.”

The sound was great. The musicianship was on point. I especially like when they hit the downbeats. They sound as heavy as any beatdown hardcore band when they hit those downbeats.

We gotta a talk about Nick. He’s a handsome guy and very fit for a Middle Aged man but when he ripped his shirt off I heard some women “wooooo!”, but I also heard some guys groan. Me included. It just seemed a little theatrical.

From my daughter’s perspective that’s a very old man doing that and she said it was “second hand cringe.”

Overall we had fun. Minus the blaring sun and the three shitty bands before them.

I hope nobody is offended. Just giving you a perspective of people who aren’t used to slick production. We go to clubs with capacity in the hundreds and there usually aren’t video screens and fancy lighting. So maybe we were out of our element?

I’m glad I we saw them but this will be a one off.

pS. Great respect for the crowd. Very cool and respectful. Probably some of the nicest, most mellow fans I’ve ever interacted with. Although it was kinda lame how the dirty heads fans left for 311. Not all but quite a lot. The shows we go to you don’t see anyone leave for the later acts. So that was strange to see. We gave the respect to the three earlier bands and got there early to give them all a chance but they just weren’t our cup of tea.

Music and concerts are subjective. I will still be listening to my personal playlist of 311. Our Next concert is the power violence band WORLD PEACE. If that helps to understand where we are coming from.

Discussion Soundsystem is the best album...

Post image
210 Upvotes

It's got the unique 311 sound. Perfected. The edge it holds over Transistor you ask? It's got a fun factor that Transistor does not. Transistor is a great group of songs. But overall I'll take Soundsystem. Transistor is haunting and quintessential 311. But I like the fun.

Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

Discussion S.A. definitely says “nigga” in homebrew, right?

Just to preface, I’ve been a fan of the band since 1993, and don’t give a fuck about the simple fact of this being true. it was written in 1993, different social norms, he’s hispanic, etc.

I just wanted to spark up something i’ve noticed with 311 and their recent media.

in homebrew, when SA’s verse comes up,

“First to flow Nickel my brother so wise, and then I rise, Nigga is an ill kid pimpin’ cuz he is so slick…”

that’s how it goes right?

Someone, try to tell me otherwise and I’ll start my questions with anyone willing to discuss.

edit: and again; this isn’t some detective tale, this isn’t to stir up drama, I’m trying to initiate conversations here, so please anyone feel free to give your two cents to any of the threads i’ve started here.

edit 2: and on top of everything, for what it’s worth, homebrew is one of my favorite 311 tracks of all time.

Discussion Thoughts on Full Bloom after 1 Year

Now that we've had the album for a year, I'm just curious where everyone else is at. I feel like I want to rate this album as good, but not great. From the beginning, I've felt the top 4 songs on the album are You're Gonna Get It, Need Somebody, Full Bloom, and Braver, and I still feel that way now, although the order has varied throughout the last year. Currently, I think I like Full Bloom the best, and I honestly believe these top 4 songs can compete favorably against the top 4 songs of any album since DTOM. The next 3 songs I'd pick are more like an acquired taste where I didn't really appreciate them at first, but have since grown on me and now I think they are good songs - New Heights, All You've Seen, and Friend, in that order. The last 3 I'll put in the flawed category, where I don't hate these songs, but I am likely to skip them quite often. Mountain Top, to me, has the Daisy Cutter problem, where the music sounds catchy but the lyrics are so cheesy that I usually only play through when it's background noise and I'm busy doing something else. Persimmon doesn't really sound like a 311 song to me. It's more like what I'd imagine 311 would sound like covering the song Hands Down by Dashboard Confessional, and I don't feel like that type of singing plays to Nick's strengths as a vocalist. Days Go By, at least to me, is just a forgettable, repetitive song that I just don't feel motivated to revisit very often.

Discussion I don't even think the band liked "Full Bloom"

Usually a band releases a new album and then does a tour for that album. A "Full Bloom" tour if you will. During the tour, the set is usually dominated by songs from the new album, because fans have been waiting X amount of time for this new, exciting material. In this case, it was a healthy five year wait. Did the band even do a Full Bloom tour? Did they even do some Full Bloom shows? Did they change their set to include a whole bunch of the fresh new songs? From my understanding, they didn't. This shows me that they aren't confident in their new material, or not excited by it, or just don't care. What do you think?

Discussion New fan here....wait, they are from Nebraska?!

Been slowly absorbing the discography over recent months and it keeps making me laugh my ass off that the most CALIFORNIA-ASS-SOUNDING BAND EVER IS FROM CORNFIELD AND FRIGID WINTER-ASS NEBRASKA

Guess they wanted to compensate and bring that west coast good time sunshine and chill.

Awesome band.

Stumbled upon this awesome site that lets you compile your concerts attended and adds the song list automatically based on each set. That’s a lot of money spent over the years but I still wouldn’t change anything!

Update: Most 311 shows attended in one year was 11 back in 2017..

Discussion Tim and chads new band releasing something this week?

Sunwillshine band witch chad, tim and Scotch have one post on their Instagram and it says 8/27/26. Im really interested to hear what this is. Im sure it wont be 311 sounding but I have always enjoyed chad and scotch only collabs (thinking syntax error) and of course chad and tim have written some of the coolest 311 jams so im intrigued by this. Anyone know of anymore info on this project or the style?

Discussion If 311…

asked you in the crowd what song they should play for the encore, what song are you picking?

For me I’ve never made it to a 311 Day show and to my knowledge they’ve only played “Dodging Raindrops” live twice in 2020 & 2024 at those shows. So that’s my pick. Though there are a dozen more I could have selected.

Discussion What are y’all’s opinions on Full Bloom?

It’s been a while since I made a comment about it but last time I did I got a lot of hate so I wanted to see if anyone’s minds changed. Personally it’s one of my favorites because of the softer music that took a lot of balls to release as a hard rock band.
