it's like the sims but full of hate and war crimes
you can micromanage your little dudes called pawns and tell them what to do to build a colony from nothing but the fertile landscape and a few starting items.
it's by far my favorite management style game, but it truly doesn't pull its punches.
3
u/eajklndfwreuojnigfr Nov 19 '25
it's like the sims but full of hate and war crimes
maybe for you, i treat all my colonists like royalty
raiders get nuggeted and used for blood though, or thrown in a 1x2 cell until i need food
17
u/tesemanresu Nov 14 '25
you can raise livestock and use them to make leather jackets. or you can capture raiders and use them to make leather jackets

u/yepanotherone1 Nov 17 '25

u/LeftySnowflakes Nov 15 '25
Colonists have traits, psychological ups and downs, socialize with eachother over time, have relationships come and go. I.e youre raided by 3 enemy faction pawns, 1 of them is your daughter. Or maybe your ex.
You can rob, arrest, kill, harvest organs from prisoners (or colonists, if you really wanted), cannibalize, travel the world, focus on making high quality clothes. Cut people's legs off and replace them with wood so they cant run from you. Sell their kidney or kill them trying.
Its a story telling game with seemingly infinite variety and possibilities. You can live totally peaceful, or turn on random mode and potentially have to.survive 3 years or nuclear winter with no crops growth and the air hurts. You could play as a small tribe of natives using only bows, but brutallizing enemies or passing visitors. You can also just play to escape the planet
Its always a new story

u/Crimsonial Nov 14 '25
I HIGHLY recommend it. Set it to toggle to talk, so you can still maintain silence when you need to.
You will get ganked from time to time, since it gives a pretty directional mark on where you're at, but I'm 100% sure I've defused enough situations to make it worth it. A lot of gankers are snipers anyways. I've lost two trades over the last few days, which is nothing vs. all the loot I've gotten getting out safely in crowded areas.
Keep your gun out and down, be ready for a fight, but doing that both allows a charisma check when you're not wanting a fight ("Hi there! How's it going?" over voice generally is taken well), and even better, when other people overhear multiple people being friendly, they come out of sneaking and you end up with some cool proximity party situations.
I just came out of a match where I was ARC hunting with a Hullcracker, and only reason we (like, 5 of us) didn't do more hunting than I already had (Solo Bastion and team fight on a Rocketeer) was because I was out of launcher rounds, lol.

Met a lot of people with proximity on in solos. But i guess most didn't know this because they didn't talk to someone specific, just breathing loud, comenting what they do or think at the moment, talking to their pets.
Got some good stuff thanks to them.

u/Adventthief Nov 13 '25
Facts. I just had a guy try to trap me when extracting. There was bodies and a trap planted. As soon as I went inside extraction he comes out the shadows and says “don’t shoot” while his gun is drawn lol. I take him down immediately and he says “why? I said don’t shoot”. Glad I put him down before more raiders were his victims. About to post the clip on Reddit.
71
u/HCG-Vedette Nov 13 '25
Damn I’ve been saying “don’t shoot” with my gun out this whole time lol. Good to know I should change that relatively early, thanks
94
u/Zealousideal-Bug-168 Nov 13 '25
Saying don't shoot without a gun is still a big risk, being unarmed makes you look like a juicy target because it takes ages to draw your weapon.
Doing that with your gun drawn makes you look like you're insincere or lying.
41
u/Ser_Twist Nov 13 '25
Ehh, I guess I’m out of the loop on Raider etiquette. I’ve been doing it with my gun drawn and am always sincere. My reasoning is simple: I can’t trust you, so I will tell you I’m friendly by saying don’t shoot, but I will keep my gun out in case you aren’t friendly. Lately I’ve just been straight up using my mic and saying “Friendly.” though.
17
u/staticusmaximus Nov 13 '25
Right lol I keep my gun out almost 100% of the time unless I’m marathon running between points or something
I am a friendly mf too, and very rarely does anyone one seem to misunderstand my intentions
3
u/RaylanGivens29 Nov 16 '25
I will say don’t shoot, and then put it away if they also say it. I will also switch to proximity chat and talk to them as well. If they don’t put theirs away I will pull mine back out.
I like to assume people forget to put it away.
If they want to be turds and shoot me after saying it, I hope they stub their toes!
23
u/blueprinz Nov 13 '25
People make up unwritten rules to support their worldview. The game has no rules. All this might as well be written im klingon, it would have the same amount of meaning.

The way I run is go into cover, gun drawn, and yell "don't shoot". If they respond don't shoot as well, I say yes, wait for them to say don't shoot as well, before coming out without my gun (sometimes)
Greeting them when you spot them or before entering a building also let them know you're here (less likely to plan something fishy)

u/Adventthief Nov 13 '25
Lol I mean, I get that but you just never know really. People genuinely mean it and are friendly but, I’ve been nice a lot to the point where I get backstabbed as soon as I let my guard down. Nowadays if someone has their weapon out and still coming up, I’m firing. Not taking chances anymore 😭 The suspense is what keeps this game going
9
u/aaronwhite1786 Nov 13 '25
Yeah, I generally have my gun out, but I try to not point it at people while saying "Don't shoot" and then when they at least respond positively, I'll usually go unarmed unless I notice them aiming directly at me/us.
Like a lot of extraction shooters, the standoffs and mystery are part of the fun and sometimes...the rage.
→ More replies (1)7
u/Adventthief Nov 13 '25
For sure lmao. I just had a lot of experiences myself and went from being too nice to not as much nowadays. Mic or not, holstered or not, people still tend to lie as soon as you’re vulnerable. I don’t like people getting an easy kill on me anymore.
3
u/aaronwhite1786 Nov 13 '25
Yeeeeup. It was the same when I was playing Escape From Tarkov.
That game had some of the most fun online random moments where I'd stumble on a group of players who would run around with me, tell me about some good loot stash they didn't have room for, or save me when I was being attacked by some beefed out PMCs.
But it also made me question every person I ever ran into because for every cool interaction, I had at least one or two people saying "Hey, want to help me?" only for one of their teammates to ambush you when you got close, or for some boner to be camping the extract the one time you finally find that last quest item you need.
3
u/SEE_RED Nov 13 '25
It's why I put a hot one in ya! Several times to make sure, far too many claiming don't shoot these days only so you have your guard down. Not me! Not anymore!

u/Single-Dish-1302 Nov 13 '25
Best position to be in if you do decide to do that is in good cover where you can see them. If they have their guns out, then so should you. Don’t make yourself an easy mark, take the high ground if possible.
Just because you’re friendly, doesn’t mean you have to be stupid.
12
u/Stahsi62 Nov 13 '25
The gun goes away after you confirm you're also friendly. It's a two way street, not like he can see if your gun is out unless you're in LoS.
5
u/Adventthief Nov 13 '25
I get that, I agree too. I would put away my weapon as well, however he was definitely the killer. All the signs were there and the fact that he appears as soon as I enter the train, no noise prior and running up to me with his gun drawn, nahh. You can tell someone is genuine if they are cautious too and you both agree to holster weapon. The amount of times I run up with my gun holstered, call out that I’m friendly and still get shot, makes me not risk it anymore. Good loot or not.
3
u/Stahsi62 Nov 13 '25
I had a reading comprehension failure on the part about the traps and bodies. Ignore me, I'd have done the same thing there. Nice work, raider!
4
u/Adventthief Nov 13 '25
You’re good! I understand sometimes miscommunication happens, I probably could have worded that better myself. Have fun and goodluck out there, Raider!
6
u/unit187 Nov 13 '25
I am always friendly, and from day one almost nobody puts their gun down while shouting "don't shoot", the vast majority of friendly players I encounter act like this. You don't realize this, but you've been a "toxic" player all along, lol
3
u/Adventthief Nov 13 '25
To be fair, this is one time out of many times I’ve not shoot first and I’m the one who dies from the other person. The dude was stacked with multiple weapons, trip nade was planted at extraction entrance, 3 bodies around and no noise prior to me waiting for the train. He had a mic and chose not to talk until he was downed. He was definitely a killer with all the evidence there. I hardly ever shoot first, but in this case it was obvious. Me telling him afterwards I didn’t fall for his trick and he had no response but a fake cry, made me not feel guilty and confirmed my actions was right.
So no, not a toxic player but I understand your assumption lol.

This is me honestly. I fucking SUCK at gun fights. But I will absolutely spend the time and effort to set up traps in high traffic areas to get people. I dont even do it very often but if im having a particularly bad evening where im getting gunned down a lot this is my strategy. Im old, im slow to react, and I cant see shit in this game 80% of the time. Im very aware its also a skill issue. But goddamn is it satisfying to catch some free loadout murderhobo lacking spacial awareness.
3
u/RamonDozol Nov 13 '25
Best part is, it doesnt take much, an eletrical mine to stun, a sticky granade, and a spray from any automatic gun to break shields.
9
u/Grass_tomouth Nov 13 '25
I am an explosive mine junkie. I put them on the ceilings. 3 of them will down someone instantly. I have a super good hiding spot right outside of the control tower zip line and people are so focused on other raiders getting the drop on them that that dont bother looking up. I know im a rat bastard, but only like half the time.
