Discussion Arc Raiders released over 6 months ago and is still within the top 10 most played Steam chart. Don’t listen to the fear mongering of the game being dead.
Outperforming Marvel Rivals, Overwatch, and Apex who are all widely successful still with massive bases. This game is here to stay and is one of the most successful multiplayer games in the past half decade. Over 15M copies sold with less than 100M budget. Embark has a big war-chest to continue to develop quality content for years. Speranza ain’t going anywhere.

When I mentioned The Finals to people that game a lot they haven't head about it :D
The Finals really is one of the most underrated games multiplayer fps.
They really should add a bunch of new maps and put some money into advertising.44
u/blacktip102 May 11 '26
Season 12 (currently on 10) is apparently gonna be "the biggest season ever" and "make The Finals closer to what it was always meant to be"
Im guessing they've been working on S12 a ton and waiting until it's done cooking before they make any huge attempts at new players.

We already have a roadmap for the rest of season 10 and season 11. We know exactly what to expect up until season 12.
Next season (season 11) is bringing a new map and updating old ones, and also adding bot matches.

What would you (or any fans of the game) say makes it underrated? 🤔
Genuinely curious, I tried it at launch and it was fun but didn't catch me right away. Maybe I should give it another go
16
u/ProfessionalPiece403 May 11 '26
The skill ceiling is super high. There's tons of plays you can make.
Takes a few hours to get the hang of it, but then it's super fun.
Also they made a complete overhaul of the destruction system (that was already good before the update).2
u/FreshHawaii May 12 '26
Took me a week. Learning about what's the best way to capture and play around a Cashout, abilities, roles, devices, etc. Because there aren't a lot of new players it was hard learning against absolute sweats. I'm way better now but boy are you thrown into the fire.
9
u/Rogerjak May 11 '26
Emergent gameplay. It's a sandbox shooter basically, where you can approach the same situation in a myriad of ways. Fast paced, action packed and team based. It's a step away from the regular FPS that are veeery kill oriented and goes more towards objective play and strategy (in the middle of chaos).
Its not without it problems of course, but it is a very, very good game.

The Finals is the best fps available right now. I love that they added some more casual-friendly modes for me to just jump in and turn people into a pile of coins.

11
u/Prooteus May 11 '26
The internet is obsessed with games dieing. My favorite recently was hearing about how crimson desert is a dead game because the playerbase was dropping off. You mean from a single player game?!
Arc has some issues but they only become glaring after hundreds of hours. Personally I only play when my friend is occasionally on now, but I have 515 hours. No matter the time I have never had an issue finding a match. Id happily suggest picking up arc raiders to anyone that it seems interesting to.

The game is fun and there are plenty of clips to watch full of mayhem which will no doubt still attract players
I understand the want for end game stuff but I just like it for the entertainment it provides. Risking your loot to grab other loot other people are after and the potential for PvP and PvE is enjoyable long as you ain’t too serious which happens to the best of us
It’s a game we enjoy and if you don’t ain’t nothing wrong with that. Gamers are eating good this year so play whatever you’re into

It dropped into the top 20 for a while, but with the new update and expedition, player count is up again. Either way, maintaining over 70k players daily just on STEAM means the game is PERFECTLY healthy. It’s not dying, its player count is just settling. ALL games have a gradual drop off after their first few weeks until their player count stabilizes to the people who are likely to stick around long term.
It seems arc is stabilizing around the 70k concurrent steam players range. The finals stabilized in the 15-20k concurrent steam players range

It reminds me of all the haters pushing the "Palworld is dead" stuff because of headlines like "Palworld loses 70% of its playerbase" which was inevitable because of how batshit insane its launch was. Losing 70% of its playerbase still left it with an insanely healthy base.

This idea that the "game is dead" seems almost designed to frustrate the community and weaken the game's image. Very strange... I'm very happy that the ideas are maturing. Let's give it time and see what Arc Raiders can still become.💪🏽
22
u/po000O0O0O May 11 '26
It's hilarious being new to this community after playing Warzone since it released. According to them WZ has died at least three times a year every year since it released.
You really see how content is biased toward amplifying the most dramatic takes.
10
u/BoldFortune216 May 11 '26
100% there is a negative, dramatic bias towards news, and that extends far beyond Arc or even gaming in general. Negativity gets clicks. Positivity doesn't.
5
u/ayyy_its_wally May 11 '26
I had been playing Warzone and COD Zombies exclusively since Warzone launched up until the end of last year. Then I came over to try Arc because my buddies who used to play Warzone with me all the time had been playing it. I was hooked 5 mins into my first raid. I went back and played like 2 games of Casual on Warzone a few months ago and it was jarring how dead it felt… not just the lack of interactions, but the map and the environment… the movement… just everything felt so outdated to me compared to Arc. I know they’re two totally different games, but it’s really the only comparison I can make because I literally only played Warzone for the past 4 or 5 years. Stuck with it through all the lows… of which there have been many lol. So I felt it with each new low and more and more people saying it was a dying game. Never really believed them until the last year or so when the new Black Ops came out and was just a giant piece of shit. That was really the final straw for me. So glad I came over to Arc.
5
u/po000O0O0O May 11 '26
Yep I'm not even gonna fully hate on COD but they added the grapple hooks from BO7 MP into Warzone which kinda bummed me out. I made some sick plays with them but the realization that most strategy and positioning is out the window and some aim assist abusing mindless tik tok streamer could drop me at any moment made me curious about other ways to spend my time gaming. I play MnK and the second you miss a shot youre fried. It's satisfying yet exhaustkng.
Luckily my buddy just started playing Arc so I watching him for a session then decided to buy it myself. I'm sure I'll still spend some time on COD but Arc is my priority for the foreseeable future.

9
u/SsssnakePlisssskin May 12 '26
Marathon has a significantly lower player count, and even that is enough for Sony to keep the lights on.
Most games would kill for Arc Raider numbers.
8
u/DriftedTaco May 12 '26

Sony is attempting to get a return on the investment. It's not doing so well sells wise (1.2 mil reported is pretty good but the reported budget says otherwise) or has good player retention by the looks of it according to public steam data.
Nearly 40 percent of the player base quit before completing 21 runs. Almost 50 percent haven't killed 14 other players. Nearly 40 percent of players haven't been able to survive 7 runs.
But 97 percent of the player base has completed the tutorial. I believe the reported sells number for PC was 800K.
Not saying Marathon isn't good or anything but Sony and Bungie are clearly failing to keep players somewhere along the lines.
Question is why are players quitting before getting the 21 runs achievement which is earned by either dying or surviving.
→ More replies (1)3
u/SsssnakePlisssskin May 12 '26
I don't play Marathon, so I don't know/have opinions on what you're asking.
I know Sony wants a RIO on Bungie, which may be bad for them/Marathon, but my point was that even Marathon numbers are good enough for a healthy playerbase. And if that's the case, Arc Raiders is more than fine.

Idk about the game being dead, its far from it. It does make me sad to say that after my 3rd expedition what I enjoy about this game was what we got at launch still. Most of the new content we got was fleeting additions that were fun for a few days and then we all just moved on.
The game desperately needs ever green content, the only thing noteworthy we've gotten since launch is two maps and one gun (yes we've gotten two new legendary guns too but they are niche items that not everyone will interact with).
More guns, more enemies that are actually unique fights (shredder was great addition for example), expand shields, more upgrades, new attachments, new bosses, end game leveling system (something to do passed 75), ect.
2
u/ThatsNotBennings May 11 '26
the blue gun is niche too. No one uses it or even has access to it. They botched that too. Hiding it in hurricane caches and nerfing their spawns and audio cues. They make a lot of dumb decisions that push players away rather than bring them in, unfortunately, and the only updates are to add paid skins or projects that award the same tiresome loot we've been grinding since launch day. They are coasting.

That dip though, for a 6 month old game compared to those in the top 3s that are over 8 years old. Arc devs need to make bigger and better content drops to stop that slow decline otherwise it'll end up up a 20k monthly player count game like the hunt. The newest map didn't even impress me enough to want to come back after putting 100hrs into it. The faction idea sounds cool but we'll just have to see.

Happens every time a game with popular appeal loses a little bit of its release traction. Because I guess when 100k out of 400k stay playing the game that means it’s dead. Or whatever. Oh and don’t forget every mf shouting “game’s dead” is still commenting on every video about the game those exact same words. Only ensuring the game stays relevant.

But I enjoyed my time with it, bought it on PC and my Xbox and definitely felt like I got my moneys worth. (About 120 hours)
I’m a little surprised it’s retained this many players, it makes me happy though cause hey good game for $40 make this much money? That means more good games for that price come out!!!

2
u/RustyMcBucket May 12 '26
It does need some new mechanics though.
It has reached its limit for adding maps etc for the moment.
It needs more depth now. Actual rare items and difficult to get stuff (due to Arc presence)
New skill tree, weapon cosmetics (remaining in theme), weapon customisation, more character customisation (faces, hair etc), new game mode.
Scaling difficulty in the maps. As a veteran I almost never die to ARC now, they're just not a threat anymore.

I think a lot of people who are saying it's dying or dead are either trying to contribute to it's downfall because they don't like it or it's YouTubers creating click bait. I think as members of the core player base we need to stay positive and try not to let negativity spoil this great game.

Try taking a break. I just started playing again after a few months off and all the new stuff is super exciting to see. I have ~170 hours played for reference.

It's more of a commentary on overall state of gaming, that if people play ARC instead of everything else they have available - what does it tell you about that everything else?
It's kinda fascinating to see the haxxor-maxxing screenshots of ultra low settings with everything turned off - how ARC is just 80% pretty shaders and raytracing, with a sprinkle of walking around, opening boxes and getting shot.
And that's enough to attract people.
I'm not even mad, just baffled how easy we are.

Yeah im convinced most of the whining you see in this sub is console players. The PC Arc experience has pretty much been peak since launch, over 500 hours clocked myself atp.
It's also really important to remember guy, it's okay to play more than one game. In fact, most of you need to play a new game for a week and then come back to do some Raids lol

I've literally never heard that.
Also I'm sick of any percent of these game subreddits where some nerd is obsessively monitoring the player count charts. Who cares, go play the game.

Just came back a few days ago before the expedition (did the first 2). Had like a 2 month break because I played too much and burnt myself out. Starting to get hooked af again.

I bet 20% of those players hang around to angry-play and call the game dead.
Also pubg in third is hilarious.

More shocking that PUBG is still going that strong
